I'm looking for inspiration. I usually write my own rituals, chants, spells and the like but I just can't seem to come up with any prayers that do the God and Goddess justice.

I like long prayers that are more concerned with balance, giving thanks and praise than talking about love and light.

Do you know of any good sites I could go to to grab some ideas? Or is there anyone here that is comfortable with me useing their stuff? I know plagerism is wrong, but I'm not planning on useing anything without giving credit, nor posting or publishing anyones work as my own.

Please don't sujest I make the prayers up as I go. It's what I'm doing now, and I'm not comfortable with it at all. It doesn't fit in with my style of worship. I know I can do it this way and all, I simply don't want to anymore.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks for your time :)

Lady of the earth (http://www.ladyoftheearth.com/prayers/prayers.html) has a brilliant selection of prayers that come in handy when I'm stuck.

As I was sorting through them, I couldn't help notice the amount of Christian prayers that have been butchered for pagan use. Made me quite ashamed really...

I've picked up some great ideas though, and a couple of really nice prayers. I'm greatful for all the help (although I wonts say no to more links if anyone has them!).

If you are interested in Gaelic beliefs, I also highly recommend the Carmina Gadelica, which is entirely made up of charms, prayers and incantations in the Scots Gaelic tradition. Many of them are Christian, but you can also see much of the original beliefs in them. Some have absolutely no particular Christian references as well. I think portions of the book are available online, but I'm not sure where.

I can understand your want/need for prayers that are worthy of your God and Goddess.

I've been rather concerned with the same thing at times. Usually around the sabbats that I choose to celebrate. But I've been led to believe that my Mother and Father(the Gods I worship) want me to feel spiritually fufilled yet wouldn't care if I just said "Thank you" or made a five paragraph speech of praise.

Perhaps it's different for your Gods or perhaps you just feel that a well thought-out prayer is what you need to do. But I reccomend that you really think out the issue, is it more important to you or the Gods.

As for thinking up a fitting prayer, why not write out all the things you're thankful for(that can be attributed to the Gods). Then after you've made a list, break it down and "re-assemble" it into a prayer.

I think the most important thing I can tell you is to let things "flow" as best they can. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Good luck!

Do you worship any specific Gods in particular, or just the God and Goddess? Maybe you could list the qualities of your Gods out on a piece of paper, and then work it into a nice little prayer. Like, for the Goddess you could put:
-full moon goddess
-mother ocean
-earth, her sacred body
-mother of the stars

Or for the God:
-Master of the bright sun
-Horned lord of animal virility
-Green man, spirit of the forest
-Dark lord of death

Then take these qualities and make them into an invocation"
Hail Mighty Mother Goddess, Great Lady of the stars. The full ripe moon that sails across the heavens, shining for all. Ocean womb from which all life began. O holy mother, I call upon thee (then you add your intention for the prayer) I ask that you bless me with your love and light in my hour of need. Help me to find my path in life. (or whatever your need is) Blessed be.

And you could do something similar with the God. Anyway, these are just suggestions, sorry if you were looking for somethign else.

Thank you both for the suggestions.

I think it's a bit of both. They appreciate that kind of worship, and I'm a very long-winded individual so I prefer long-winded prayers. you have a good point though.

I'm a hard duothesist and to me them upstairs have no names because to name something is to have power over it... Basically the prayers I'm after are not to ask for anything... sort of like reading poetry to people when they are sick, I just want it to sound nice, show them I love and appreciate them, and keep them entertained (for want of a better way to put it)

well, I'm a Hellenic pagan and I often use the Homeric Hymns for inspiration, if not to directly nab a line or two.

http://www.gutenberg.org you'll find them here (Project Gutenberg, if you're not familiar is a site devoted to making available, free of charge, the works of literary texts whose copyrights have expired in the US...it's like magic, hehe)

I especially recommend this particular volume:

http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/348 (don't worry, it's just a link to the page, it won't download anyhitng.)

i have this book in hard copy and it's going out of print, but still available at most borders and barnes and noble. (contains the english and greek tests in the same volume for Hesiod's Theogeny and Works & Days, the Homeric Hymns, Hesiod's Catalog of Women, and a couple of other works of Homer's- everyhtng except the Illiad and the Oddysey really.)
