I know that if your headaches are of the migraine type, feverfew is supposed to work. I haven't tried it, because my headaches are cluster headaches, and I don't think it's supposed to help them. Also, an accupressure technique that I have found helpful is to place one or two fingers in that little notched spot at the base of your skull and apply pressure while rubbing in little circles. It seems to help me sometimes. I'm sure there are others here that might have better info....:hugz:

If you can give me some more information...where you feel the most pain etc..I might be able to give you some more specific ideas on self care that might help...
#1 take your vitamins (or an energy drink that includes..b1, b6, b12, c, magnesium, potassium, calcium, folic acid)
#2 look up upper trapezius stretch on www.exrx.net SCM (sternocleidiomastiod) stretch can also be highly effective
# 3 take a towel fold the sides in but not so they touch, there should be a strip down the middle of the towel 1/4 inch wide where its only one layer thick. then dampen it and roll it up ...there should be a soft/thinner area in the middle where the "gap is" you can heat the towel up in the microwave (or instead of dampening it wrap a heating pad around it) then you place the towel behind your head...the gap goes along the spine so the heat and pressure is on either side...apply for 15-20 minutes at a time
#4 partner assisted neck traction..lay on your back have a partner silp a pillow case under your neck they then pull stright up (towards the ceiling) gently, then while still pulling up they lead away from your head pulling your head gently away from your shoulders...hold for as long as they like realase slowly repeat ....IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO PULL STRAIGHT IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE SPINE AND REALEASE STRAIGHT IN A LIGNMENT WITH THE SPINE....
Good luck...

Depending on how much water you're drinking you might just be experiencing headaches as a symptom of dehydration. I say boost your water intake before anything else and see if the headaches decrease. :)
Hope your head feels better soon.

I am a life long sufferer of migraines and headaches. When I get a minor headache, I try and close my eyes and regulate my breathing, which can have an immediate effect, depending on how intense the pain is. I breathe in deeply and slowly through my nose and out through my mouth. Also, if you feel your pulse pounding, try rubbing your corotid artery - rub in circles beneath your ear, directly behind your jaw joint. Rubbing temples can help, as well. I have a little essential oil roller called MigraStick, which contains essential oils of peppermint and lavender. Peppermint is a good all around headache reliever, while lavender can help target stress headaches. If it's a sinus headache, try some mint and eucalyptus together. I generally inhale it and then rub a bit on my temples. Sometimes, just taking moment out and doing head rolls and shoulder rolls can help as well, especially if you have poor posture, as that can contribute to headaches as well.
ETA: Oh, also analyze your diet!! My best friend's mom had severe migraines for six months before discovering she had developed an allergy to nitrates in the packaged cold cuts she was eating for lunch every day! She was in her forties at the time, so it was developed over time, not something she was born with.

Good point!!!
Nitrates allergies can cause severe headaches
As can sulfide allergies and arachodonic (sp) acid allergies....

Thanx for all your help!
I find meditating helps ease the headaches and haven't had them too much for the past couple of weeks!

Good going, Lunita! I hope it continues to help!
As for me, all I can say is that drinking peppermint tea when I feel a headache coming on almost always does the trick. The soothing aroma and warmth are wonderful, and the peppermint offers a nice cooling sensation.
Good luck!

headaches are caused by a variety of things. right now, with the climit changing due to the seasons is a major cause for headaches in alot of people. drinking plenty of water is a good way to help keep headaches to a minimun. another thing ive noticed is wearing a hat of sorts, even a bandana helps keep headache down during the fall and spring. most of my headaches are a result of people trying to pry inside my mind, those are different though. they attack in just a few specific areas and i simply "grab" them and throw them out and put on a protective head covering of sorts. you would think they would have learned by now that my mind is next to impossible to get into with out permission.!

This might be a little late, but you can try it for future headaches.
You have a ridge along your forehead a small bit above your eyebrows. Above the middle of each eyebrow (approx) is a pulse point. When you get a headache, touch the middle and index finer from each hand to the pulse points. Don't apply pressure, that's not needed and may cause harm. After a while of keeping the fingers touched to the pulse points, the headache should alleviate. If you know how, channel a small amount of white, blue and green (positive, healing and calming) energy through your fingertips into the pulse points. Be patient with it, it doesn't have an instantaneous effect, but it does work, just takes a few minutes.
May your paths find you peace.
