I was going to put this in the silly forum but being a southener (S.C.) who is still trying to overcome the racism I was raised with, I humbly submit this with apologies to those I have wronged in the past. It definitely gave me pause to think

I post this as it was sent to me. If you know someone who you think may benefit from it, please send it on.

> When I born, I black
> When I grow up, I black
> When I go in sun, I black
> When I cold, I black
> When I scared, I black
> When I sick, I black
> And when I die, I still black.

> You white folks......
> When you born, you pink
> When you grow up, you white
> When you go in sun, you red
> When you cold, you blue
> When you scared, you yellow
> When you sick, you green
> And when you die, you gray.
> So who you callin' colored?

O, I was raised in the southern north, as i call it. In New Jersey, but in the farmy and south part of it. After 9/11, they sold american and rebel flags side by side, in convience stores no less. they even had one that had one side rebel and one side american :(.

we never have much racism that I see round here either...at the moment in school, we're reading 'Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry'. It's boring for the most part, I mean because its not a time or place that I'm particularly interested in, but it's opened up my eyes to the horrors of racism.

There's really none around here...although there aren't any african americans here, and the few there are all bond together at school and have been known to poke fun at whites. The rest of the population is Hispanic...and they do the same thing. If anything, there's more racism against whites. Eh, I don't care what color you are, you shouldn't poke fun at anyone for being a different color. Whether it be "white girl" or "wetta", or any names for african americans or hispanics...

Racism sucks.

Oh and I like the poem :p

(Btw, help me! I'm pushing 16!!! Teehee, just felt it necessary to make you guys feel old :p)

I always resented the term "colored" - like my skin has no color?

Of course, I grew up in LA...in elementary school I was literally the only blonde-haired, blue-eyed child in the whole school. So racism simply made no sense to me...what do you mean my black, hispanic, cambodian and vietnamese friends are different from me? Of course they are, we're all different. I'm different from them. So what? We all ride our bikes and play four-square together just fine...

I forget about skin color a lot...I guess that's the luxury of being caucasian in American society though. I will describe someone and fail to mention they're black, which people tease me for - there are not a lot of black people around my current area so describing them by their skin color would be a lot easier than trying to remember what they're wearing. LOL I just don't *think* of it.

Unless it's a hot guy... *bawdy wink* I think all sorts of skin colors are beautiful, and will spend a good amount of time dragging my eyes over male skin...I'll remember the color in that case, LOL...

And maybe this sounds weird, but I have *always* thought that children of so-called "mixed race" are usually the most attractive children... I love black-white mix in particular, it creates such a beautiful skin tone, the best of both worlds in a lot of cases.

And skin color is deceptive anyway. I look like a total honkey, but actually have a fair dollop of red in me...I only wish it was more obvious, I appear to be as white as white gets. My sister has a darker skin tone, and I'm jealous for it!

Wasn't it George Carlin that said "we need to all keep [having sex] until we're all the same color"? (He used a different word for 'having sex' though, LOL)

I couldn't agree more, George...

Oh, and I liked the poem. Good conversation starter. :)
