I have toyed with the idea as I am not thrilled with the options for middle and high school in the area and Trey has such special needs. Unfortunately at this time it is not feasible because I have to devote a large portion of my time to the girls during the daytime and also paying bills and managing a house etc. I know there are those single parents who do it alone and I will likely be one of them in the near future, but I am not ready for that just yet. I will be looking to you folks for all the tips though!

A lot of parents of special needs kids choose to homeschool because they just dont feel the school can give their kids the options they need. If you are interested, I would recommend you read Dumbing Us Down by John Taylor Gatto. Its a few years old, so it is often available at the library. He is a former award winning teacher who writes very passionately about how schools fail to meet student's individual needs.

I just wanted to post to say that I'm here too. :) I am not homeschooling full time this year, but I am supplimenting my girls on the side. My 3 year old son is not interested in learning much right now. He is so different than my girls. By this age they knew how to write, their numbers, colors, etc. But, he learns differently than they do.
He knows sign language from the Baby Eistein videos because they play music in the background while they use the sign language, show the picture and say the word all at the same time.

I am looking forward to learning more with all of you.

I'd like to homeschool my girl... of course she isn't even born yet so it'll be a while. I was homeschooled myself from 7th grade on and it worked well. I'm so excited about the homeschool subforum!!!

Thanks Mol :D

I'm here as well, but then as a reader. I have no kids (yet) but I'm very interested in homeschooling so it's a definite consideration for when I do get blessed to have them.

Homeschooling Mom of 3. Oldest is in 4th grade. First and third (Kindergarten) are real self-learners, but my second (first grade) really needs extra attention.
