Dude, that sucks.
What did you do to it??

Hope things get fixed (and stay that way) quickly.

It made these strange 'bubbling noises of doom' and starting backing up on it's own. The drain in the laundry room is doing the same thing. Things could get ugly soon. We did manage to get a hold of the landlord but he already spent $1000 fixing it when this happened last time and said he just wants to come by and see if he can fix it himself. ugh.
The good news is I have class from 7-10 tonight so I can use the bathroom there. The bad news is I have trouble using public toilets for things other than peeing and last time this happened I got so, so constipated in the week it took to fix it. I really hope it doesn't take that long this time!

thanks :)
ETA: You know, I think the females of my family are cursed when it comes to toilets. My parents had a major problem with theirs this year too and had to take it right out and put in a new one and their house is only 10 years old.
My nana has become best friends with her local plumber ever since she opened her B & B. The handles keep falling off, or they stop flushing.

hmmm creeepy...

Oy.

If the laundry room is on a lower floor than your toilet, the main drain for the building might be clogged. Does anyone else live in the building? Are they having problems too? Have you had problems with other drains being slow or backing? If so, it's not just your toilet. There should be an access to the main drain that can be opened and snaked out. If your landlord is handy, and has a drain snake, he should be able to do so pretty easily.

Hope it gets fixed soon.

It's now spread to an appartment wide epidemic. There are numerous turds floating in the laundry room. Our tub and all the sinks (as well the our first floor neibours) are backing up loads of sewage. I'm so entirely grossed out. We called the landlord six times and he hasn't responded so we called the plumber. Hopefully it will get billed to the landlord so we don't have to pay it and wait for him to pay it back cause that will take ages.
AUUUGH NIGHTMARE!!!!
My fiance thinks it's roots in the pipe again.

That's really, really, really nasty! Ugh! :blech:

I don't know about where you live.. but are there landlord-watchdog type organizations or a local housing authority that you could contact? Or even the Board of Health, since you're clearly dealing with sanitation hazards here? You shouldn't have to live with turds and sewage in your house.

Anyway - best wishes - hope this problem gets sorted out soon!

(And happy birthday, by the way!)

Brightshores, realizing that she's probably never typed the word "turds" before. :T

Toilets arent cheap. I do all I can to fix it. I have had mine break twice also. First time was the metal seal around the inner part of the top, and then the chain pump broke and the seal around the bottem were it meets the floor leaked and i fixed it by tightening it. oye

You need to call your local Health Department...when there is a mess like that, you're not even supposed to clean it yourself. It's a health hazard and it's supposed to be dealt with by professionals. When I was managing my local Super 8 motel and we had ANY kind of mess dealing with bodily fluids of any kind, it legally had to be reported and dealt with by the HD because it's a biohazard. I think it would be similar since it's an apartment building and not just a single-family home.

Blegh.
