View Full Version : bothersome dream

I rarely remember my dreams and if I do they usually have some importance. I had one a few nights ago that woke me and has stuck with me since. I can't seem to figure it out.
The dream:
I was watching the local morning news and they ran a story about an infant who had just won our state's lottery. The news anchors were in blubbering tears and could barely speak because the baby's grandfather died that same day. While that is a sad thing, I don't understand why it seemed so very tragic. This story was the top story for the day and no one could stop crying. It just kept repeating over and over. They kept showing a picture of the baby and then the grandfather, both seemed like the normal pictures they use regularly on the news. It seemed so normal yet it wasn't.
When I did wake I had that strange feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was going to go terribly wrong soon. Even thinking about it now creeps me out.
Silly, isn't it? A baby winning the lottery? The news people crying hysterically? But it was so real I had to ask my husband if there was a story like that on the news. I feel like I'm missing something very simple here. Any ideas would be appreciated.

perhaps the dream has no real meaning. just another random pointless dream that people usually have. on the other hand...
maybe there is an older person you know who will die and leave everything to their grand baby and what you thought were news anchors were really family who are depressed and crying because they didnt get a cut of the inheritance and theres nothing they can do about it cause the old fogey has it set up legally to where they cant touch it.
ok, so sometimes i babble and go into strange details that may not make since or even be true but amazingly enough ive hit the nail on the head quite a few times with them!

It might seem a bit out there but I could see where this could make sense. Maybe I was just sloughing off some old thoughts with too much emotion that night. I will certainly give you kudos for effort. Thank you. :)

I am curious...do you remember how YOU were feeling in the dream? I mean as the news people were crying, etc...were you thinking they were wierd or were you also feeling upset, etc?

Yes, I remember too well how I felt. At first I thought how sad for the family. As it continued I began to question why this seemed to be such big news so I was feeling a little confused. Gradually I started to get a feeling that something was wrong, I almost wanted to panic about something. That began to turn into that feeling that something very bad was going to happen. The longer the news went on the worse it got. I could actually feel myself getting worked up almost to the point of being ill. That feeling of doom kept getting more and more intense until I woke. It was still with me for a good part of the morning.

Could the baby be you? And, I don't mean you had a premonition that you are going to win the lottery...but the first thing that comes to mind for me, especially, with your growing sense of dread, is that perhaps you are feeling like if good things happen for you there will be a price to pay (which let's face it there usually is) and perhaps you are afraid that the "price" will be high?

That's another interesting idea. I can see where my brain would come up with something so off the wall for what is really a simple concept that I would otherwise ignore. Thank you. :)
Rudas Starblaze and Darakash, thank you both for letting me pick your brains a bit about this. Believe it or not, between the two of you, I think I get it now. I just needed a different perspective.
