View Full Version : Fish heads as a voodoo/hoodoo curse?

I went and performed a house cleansing on Thursday night... as part of that I walked the perimeter of the backyard to make sure that all ickies were gone from the property completely. Nothing was in the yard at that time that wasn't supposed to be there.

On Saturday - the homeowner found three catfish heads arranged in a triangle in the southeast corner of the backyard. (this is the side of the yard that has railroad tracks running alongside it. very residential neighborhood-don't think the train even runs along those tracks anymore)

She is trying to sell this house and I'm wondering if someone isn't actively working against her.

Any ideas on this?

As someone who's been practicing hoodoo for a few years now, I can say that I've never heard of fish heads used as an ingredient for crossing someone. Usually if a rootworker is crossing someone, they'll bury the ingredients of the trick under front steps, the porch, or in the walkway. Somewhere where it will be walked over a lot, but still remain concealed. Putting ingredients in a corner of the back yard kind of defeats the purpose of laying a trick against someone. They need to come in contact with the thing, but not know they're coming into contact with it.

I'm not entirely sure about fish heads being used for that purpose in Vodou, but I really doubt it. It's more likely that some slob just dumped them there, and they happened to fall in a triangle.

Heh, sorry for the lesson on Hoodoo theory. Hope this is at least a little heplful.

I do know a little about hoodoo and I'd never heard of it...couldn't find it on luckymojo.com, either. BUT wanted to see if there was something I was missing. Hence my post here to see if more experienced workers had heard of it.

It may just be a very weird coincidence...

I don't know, were they roly-poly?
I've never heard of anything involving fish heads. Besides, I think I'd favour the noiser, scarier, and more obvious curse of nailing a chicken heart to their door.
Of course, the most dreadful doorstep curse of all is the flaming paper bag.

Ah yes, the flaming bag...to which the proper counter-curse is to shout at your wife "Leave me alone, devil woman!"

hi ...
my first instinct was 'cats' ...

my 'mindful' response was ... trying to sell the house, southeast corner and fish ... put a birdbath or water feature in the southeast corner (the corner of $) ... water in the south east is always a good thing when dealing with $$$; perhaps a coincidential type message.

keep on checkin' ... if its something someone's doing to thwart the move, they will do it again, and then you will have the answer for real.

Hoodoo?

As far as resemblances go this reminds me most of the dread norse horse head hex.

A DIYer or someone trained by a small cult would be the culprit.

Is there any reason to assume it is connected with the planned move?

This may have been going on for some time, it's only now it's coming to light.

Internet and book research have not been productive sources for learning about the methods of the practicioners I've had to interact with, just found a few passages on their patron deity, an African sky god. I had to work out for myself that the splashes of blue paint were for downvoking and targgeting.

Could be her ex-bf messing with her. She has a protective order against him--we're leaning that direction--but just wanted to check with those in the know here.

dread norse horse head? thought that was pure Godfather....

don't think this guy is hip enough to know anything about nithing.

Um, darlin', who do you think taught the Sicilians about such things as horse heads, three-ring blood vendetta, and organized crime? Yep, the dreaded Northmen...

I agree with what was said above, most people that lay tricks would bury the items and they would be near or under a porch or step etc near an entrance that is used alot. Maybe someone did that to scare the person intentionally. The Mafia referance may hold more value than someone laying a trick. From what it sounds if someone did that they wanted it seen to scare the person more than anything else. I asked some colleages about fish heads being used in Hoodoo since I have not personally heard of it and neither have they but things do change by regions. I can only speak for my region. They also agreed that said items would be buried closer to an entrance for it to be tracked over alot to make the curse more powerful.

yeah--these were placed where no one would be walking....

coolness--thanks, everyone for the answers. I appreciate it. It confirms what I suspected, but wanted to verify before just saying no it wasn't.
