So how do you "follow" the great pumpkin?

Faux Sloatman
September 19th, 2006, 03:02 AM
By following the words of his teachers. Doing as he would have those do, and making the world better for the new ones.

Being a good person, and watching others to make sure they are good too. And alos loving the earth and keeping it well. Preparing the way for the awakening when ti happens. Being a good wife and mother.

Its simple.

Mmm...interesting. Do you call it a religion? What are the teachings?
I hope all these questions don't offend you. I'm very interested in this path.

No not at all! We do call it a religion, and the teachings are about the history of the Great Pumkin, and how he has taught people throughout the ages, he dies so that we may eat and rises again to help us and feed us again.

Hmmm. Well, I can say I've never heard of this. Honestly, when I first saw the OP, I thought it had something to do with Charlie Brown.

What is the basic doctrine? I mean, I got the part about doing good things and stuff, but how exactly do you worship a pumpkin?

I'm not trying to sound disrespectful, but I'm genuinly curious as to what this all means.

I did a quick Google search and found nothing under "pumpkinite". It's somebody's username for some gaming sites but that's about it. Does the path go under a different name?

The Great Pumpkin is NOT scary like that, but I enjoyed it anyway! :awilly: :awilly:

The Great Pumpkin is not exactly a Pumpkin himself, he is a spirit who inhabites pumpkins the way Oprah inhabites tv's - she's not in any one tv, but she is in all of them, which is how the Great Pumpkin works. He is the redeemer and the vehicle between humans and the world of plants and vegetables.

It has been prophesized that one year he will return in physical form, and so we await his return and prepare the world for his arrival.

We are told by the elders that Charles Schultz was a secret Pumpkinite, but feared to open up about his pagan beliefs out of fear of persecution. Those were still dark days.

Most Pumpkinites I know are not very technically savvy, in fact some of the more extreme Pumpkinites are almost Amish, which I guess is why there aren't many online. I thought other Pumpkinite sects might be more advanced in other parts of North America, but it doesn't look like it.

The Great Pumpkin dates back to Ancient Egypt.:boing:

Geez, I hate being this confused.

I had someone from my order infiltrate the Pumpkinites in Ohio over a month ago, after receiving a tip that they existed from an acquaintance of mine, my agent sent back a report which I posted on my blog. One of the people from that sect joined up here, and started posting, then someone found my blog posting about the Pumpkinites and assumed that the person was me.

Now, my agent has gone missing. I blame the sloppy detective work on this site.

Does that clear it all up?

I have a few questions, if you don't mind my asking, and I ask these with all due respect.

1: There is an actual religious group referring to themselves as Pumpkinites?
I suppose that most of the folks who read this thread immediately assumed
that the reference to The Great Pumpkin was one referring to a creation
of Charles Schultz's.

2: You have agents which you send out to secure you information,
such as in the case of the Pumpkinites?

3: Do you suspect that the agent may have been taken by the Pumpkinites, once he was discovered to not actually be authentic?

1. To the best of my knowledge, yes, but I don't buy their claims of having predated Schultz's work. Although it is perfectly reasonable to think that this is what they are teaching people and some believe it.

2. Yes, we have agents everywhere.

3. Possibly. I know for a fact he was found out, but I don't know if they are keeping him or whether he is simply unable to respond to me right now. I got a short response from the agent yesterday, and at that point he was free. As of now, I don't know.

1. Reread what I wrote.

2. "We" are the Esoteric Order Of Eris. Why we have agents everywhere is a matter of our own concern.

3. I am sure I don't know. Clearly he thought he was in danger, although he was always overly imaginative.

How is pumpkin pie viewed by most Pumpkinites? Is it venerated as a sacrament? Is there a Pumpkinite Eucharist? How about pumpkin seeds? Other gourd-like vegetation? Is there an arch-enemy?

Either that, or we are waiting for a Discordian agent to be found. Unfortunately he is being held hostage for infiltrating the Pumpkinites after being busted on a blog. Then again, we aren't 100% sure about that, as he is apparently prone to exaggeration.

The Discordians are having fun again. That should've been obvious from the first post and the random bits in the OP's signature.

What boggles my mind is how it took people so many posts to figure it out. O_o The "silly" type of Discordians are easy to spot. It's the subversive "mythic Trickster"/"devil's advocate" types that are the difficult ones.

Here's something for yah.I was initiated into it almost 10 years ago.
The Initiation Ritual Into the Mystery Cult of Bill the Cat (http://www.paganlibrary.com/humor/initiation_ritual.php)

I do hope everyone realizes that any deity(deities) we discordians wish to worship,or even make up,is just as real and valid as anyone elses here.
Just wanted to clarify that.

The Pumpkinites are an Illuminati front.Part of The "New Pagan Order".
Real nasty types.
And it's getting toward their Great Rite(shudder).
I have a Church of Eris Special Ops Unit dealing with the situation as we speak.Hopefully,we won't have another Budapest Incident.

Yes, yes. What about the orgies? I heard that orange was the colour of orgies or was supposed to create an atmosphere conducive to lowering inhibitions. I think that it would be a big selling point to others. Look at viagra sales.... lots of widows and widowers looking for another, perhaps last, chance to experience the energy generated during an orgy.

I have just stumbled on this site by searching for Pumpkinites on the internet. What silliness with this missing agent!

This must be a joke. Pumpkinites, and I assure you we do exist, are all sworn to be non-violent strict vegans, we wouldn't harm anyone. Even those sent to spy on us, if that is indeed what happened, hard as it is to believe.

Yes we're pretty secretive, we take our worship seriously and these are not friendly days for those considering themselves serious Pagans. There is no official Pumpkinite Church web site, one of our main beliefs is that humanity is far too dependant on technology these days, losing touch with its natural state of existance, getting separated from Mother Earth. Therefore, although as a tolerant society we do not prohibit the use of technology, we prefer to spread our message through more organic means. :)
