I feel kind of silly but I don't know how to choose my witch name. Do I pick it myself or through meditation etc. I have just read a link that suggests to me you chose your own name through a personal connection you feel. Is this right?
ps Im really new to this and I'm a bit lost in information. I would appreciate a few Wicca friends as I'm a solitary.

Hi There. Merry Meet and Blessed Be. There are some really great people here that will be able to help. Me personal I have allways found reading a book helped. Learn everything you can both here and by reading. :)

Well, if you want a new name... I mean, if you are perfectly comfortable with the one you have now, why change?
Oooh, here's something you could try: pick a random book from the mythology section and open it up to a random page and see who's name is there.
Meditation is a good idea too.
I say, don't think about it too much, it'll just come to you one day when you least expect it. Or at least, that's what happened to me!
Good luck!

I was feeling very lonely. I am reading a lot and trying to cope with these wonderful new feelings now that I have found Wicca. Are most of you solitary or in covens? I would like info on both but I think that I may remain a solitary.

Welcome Jasmine Star!
I am quite new to the board as well, and I have learned so much!
I am right now solitary, but I don't think I could do it alone without everyone here on MW!
and if it helps, I am still meditating, and listening for my witch name, but I know when I hear it, it will be perfect!

Thank you. I chose the name because it seemed right at the time but I am still listening for any signs that may suggest otherwise.
Has anyone read To ride a silver broomstick? Is it useful? Or has anyone read anything by Scott Cunningham?

check out the books section. there is a great list of books there.
I have 3 of Scott Cunningham's books, all of which I am reading, but mostly scanning through, and they are very useful!
I also have a book called The Craft: A Witch's Book of Shadows -
Dorothy Morrison . It is very good, very detailed, and although I will not use everything by this particular book, it is a good starter, along with Cunninghams books.
Oh, and my name came to me yesterday! I am very excited about it! and the Goddess confirmed it twice! Don't worry, it'll happen!

:boing: :boing:     Welcome to Mystic Wicks!! Since everyone gave such great advice, I wont ever try to offer you a suggestion. All I will say.. is follow your heart and ask the Gods and the Goddesses.. and they will show you your name

First of all... Welcome to MW!!
I "stumbled" on mine by going to a site which told you your "witch name"... It was kinda funny, actually - I went through about 20 before I came upon part of mine.... A name which I actually liked, so I used that part, using another part from a name which I really love, I came up with the second part. :)
Like what mostly everyone says, do what feels right.. If you really love a certain type of stone, constellation, herb, etc, use it! (If it's the name of a goddess or god, ask permission first though.. ;))
