About 10 years ago my grandma fell and broke her hip. She required surgery, and unfortunately a side effect of the anesthesia was dimentia. So, since then she's been living in an assisted living home.
She's now 86 years old, and I just found out that yesterday she fell and broke her hip again. She was in the hospital for an hour before any of her family was notified, and my uncle even works at the hospital.
Anyway, she needs surgery again because she has internal bleeding and her blood pressure is really low. However, because of the low pressure they think her chances are slim of her surviving the surgery, and they want the family to sign a dnr.
They doctors actually just want to let her go, but besides the dimentia she's fine, so the family is choosing to try the surgery. They actually didn't think that she was going to last the night, but somehow she did.
My mom's not handling this very well, cuz she has never had a good relationship with her mom, and there's stuff she wishes she'd said and done. And she really hoped her mom would appologize to her, at some point. Problem being that my grandma can't remember what she's done, anyway.
So, my family could use a little energy right now.... particularily in making the tough decision about a dnr. And my grandma could use some energy, deciding if she wants to stay here or move on. Lastly, energy for all to handle her decision well. Thanks. :)
Edit for some names.... Grandma Isabell, aunts and uncles Dan, Allan, Debby and Elli, and my mom Margaret.
