This is something i'd like to learn more about, but does anyone know anything about the religion(s) and deities of Britain, pre-Norse, would it have been Celtic, or was there something else there before it, i'd like to learn more about it, like what type of gods were here, spirits and supernatural beings, etc (or maybe if they're still here?), part of the reason is i find it interesting, another reason is on this forum i go to, it talks about developing a relationship with the land you live on, e.g. knowing the different gods, spirits and supernatural beings of the land, etc.

If it was Celtic, what was it like, and does it differ to the other Celtic areas (and how?).

Thanks for any help :).

Well, pre-Norse, it was mostly Christian, with some residual ideaology (mostly dealing with relationships to the land) from previous pagan religions intermingled. (Anglo gods, Saxon Gods, and Roman Gods, as well as Celtic.)

Pre ROMAN, however, it would have been Celtic...and, perhaps, if you don't believe that the Picts of northern Britain were 'Celtic', Pictish. But by the time of the Roman invasions, there were apparent strong similarities between the Pictish language and culture and known Celtic languages and cultures.

Hopefully, someone whose specialty is British Celtic religion will speak up here...:) I can help to some degree, but I know far more about the Gaelic stuff than the British....except when you're talking about Scotland..;)
