I'm doing a tarot workshop with a friend of mine (she's teaching and I'm learning) we've gotten through the major arcana and have been doing our own three card spreads (just using majors) between our meetings. So I was wondering, what are some of your favorite three card spreads and why? I know of several but was wanting some opinions on them. Thanks.

i use three different 3 card spreads with tarot ... a 'yes'/'no' question spread ... the past, present, future spread ... and a 'person a' 'person b' and 'helper'.

the yes/no is done with a shuffling and cut while meditating on the question, then 13 cards are turned over (unless you flip an "ace" card) for each of the three 'piles' ... the cards i use are round, so you determine the 'yes' as proper position, 'no' as upside down, and 'maybe' if turned on its side (or maybe leaning toward yes or leaning toward no if the card is like in the :5, :10, :20, :25, :35, :40, :50, :55 minute angles). if all three are upright, the answer is "YES!", all three down, a "NO!" ... somewhere in between or no aces, look to the card for meaning in that position ... for instance say you ask the question, "am i going to get the job?"

first card is 'emperor' pretty much upright, the second card is an ace of sword, reversed, the third card is a 4 of swords. the first card would be what is underlying the question, the emperor. the second one would be 'where are you presently' ... the ace reversed would indicate, 'no you are not going to get the job'; and the third card would be 'what do i do next', and the 4 of swords would indicate work on your inner structure.

... the past, present and future is perhaps the most common 3 card spread. what leads to the question, what is present time reality, what next ...

... the relationship one, is nice if you have an issue with another person ... the focus during shuffle and cutting should be on the other person and yourself and the issue you need clarification for ... first card is you (on left), the second card is them (on right) and the third card in the middle is what will help bring peace to the relationship/issue ... or what will advance postively what is going on ... the middle card always relates to you and your perception and position ... not what the other person needs to change (unfortunately sometimes the honesty hurts when you think its all them, and then poof, nope, its on you to change!).

Anything can be a 3 card spread, that's why I like them so much.

Me... You.... Them / Us

Goal... Obstacle... Outcome / Advice

Emotional... Physical... Spiritual

You get the idea. :)

I like the mind body spirit one or one of my favorites

Who have I been?
Who am I?
Who am I becoming?

It's really deep for just three cards.

My favourite 3 card spread is the Past Present and Future spread. It is simple and really works for me.
