When you cast a circle, do you always call quarters? I've read in some threads that it's doesnt make sense depending on what you're doing in the circle. If you dont call guardians or elementals are anything, do you skip the procedure? And Under what circumstances would you call watchtowers, elements, angels, etc? IF there are threads that already talk about this stuff, point them out to me and leave any additional knowledge you can share.

Thanks.

Next time you're not sure if there's threads already, go click search between F.A.Q. and home at the top there (under the mysticwicks.com onlinepagan community graphic and graphic menu, in the black text there), then you can search the site for whatever (this time watchtower or elemental or guardian). You can find some great stuff with that :)

Here's some threads -

What you call on for the most part is your preference.

The Guardians of the Watchtowers are guards like you'd see on a castle looking out to protect the castle from danger. As such, they're usually thought of as big strong creatures and are often called for protection.

Elementals, however, are energies or faeries associated with an element. This could be gnomes, sylphs, salamanders, undines, or just elemental faeries. Not many people call these guys - usually just those who work with faeries regularly.

Elements are the actual earth, air, fire, and water. When you call them you visualize how they each look, feel, sound, smell, or taste. Most people call them in.

Angels are usually only called by those who work with them regularly. There are angels associated with each element, or you can pick personal angels, etc. A good book to help you with these is Angels, Companions in Magic, by Silver RavenWolf.

You can also call other personal things such as dragons, faeries, spirit guides, etc. For awhile I had an elemental cat at each direction that I called (cougar, lynx, lion, and panther I think).

In general you'll want to remember that you are inviting each thing into your circle - you're asking them to join you. Usually you do this so they can help lend energy to your working (ie. elementals, elements, angels, fairies, dragons, etc.) or guard it (ie. guardians of the watchtowers, dragons, etc.). Then when you close the circle you thank them and tell them "merry part" etc. in reverse order from how you called them (ie. if you invited earth, air, fire, and water, then god and goddess, you bid them adieu from god and goddess, water, fire, air, and earth).

Hope this helps.
