I like it here but...

Hi there!

I'm a new member here and I've loved mooching thru your posts, so warm and supportive.

But, I've a dilemma - I'm very wary of organized religion, I hate the idea of having to 'name' your beliefs. I've just started reading about Wicca (out of curiosity mainly, I'm a glutton for knowledge) and have found that it matches my personal beliefs very closely, I've always believed that to respect others is to respect yourself (And if it harm none...). I've always believed in a multi faceted external power, the Earth's energy - I s'pose you could refer to it as a deity/Goddess if you wanted to, although I find it very difficult to think of pure energy as embodied in this way (the naming aversion again!). I believe that amazing things can be achieved by tuning/tapping into this energy - magick if you will.

However, I still cannot find it in myself to commit to what I still see as an organised religion, even tho' Wicca appears to be fairly open ended. What I really want to know is, even if I remain on the fence for the time being is it alright with you lot if I hang around here, maybe even post when I feel I have something constructive to say? I know I could just stay here and continue lurking, but thought I should ask out of respect to you all and your beliefs.

I don't think anyone would mind you posting, I think you'll find that the beliefs here are very broad and encompass the whole pagan spectrum.

Welcome cybadiva. Your post could have been written by me a year ago. ;) I was raised a Catholic but never bought into the whole "organized" religion thing either. I found that my beliefs are very closely matched to those of Wicca. It was only through posting here that I realized I wasn't really Wiccan, but just my own path. A religion of one, and a disorganized one at that LOL!!! If I had to choose a label it would be Green Witch but as of now, I kinda prefer not really having a label.


As for it being ok with us- this board consists of many people on many paths. And as long as we respect each others paths, you can post as much or as little as you like. Of course, we hope the former!

Yep, we are many and varied here, some meeting in covens (organized) and some solitary. Wicca (like all the Pagan faiths) is a beautiful path precisely because it respects everyone. When I first started visiting this site, I kept on asking from myself (and from the others) how I should "classify" myself, but lately I've grown to see that such classifying is not necessary. You are you, that's who you are :)

I think you will find the Pagan community to be some of the nicest and accepting people around!
Don't rush yourself in finding a So Called Religion. When the gods see fit, your path will come to you. The clouds will be lifted! Just remember, god/goddess comes in many forms and each form is a result of what persieve him/her to be!

I know what you mean by the label thing. I hear about different beliefs that are similar to mine, but it's just a bit weird for me to call myself any part of something. . . because I"m just plain me! hehe I don't want to be identified as part of a great big thing.. . I just want to be my own self hehe so "Pagan"'s about as far as I'll go ^^; LOL people ask me if I"m wiccan (which I'm not) and I go "uhh not really. . . ^^;; would you like to know about what I belive?" LOL aka "have you got about three days to listen to me chatter on and on and rant a bit?" :D
