View Full Version : What do you do when you feel like the cards weren't shuffled well?

I just did a reading for myself and as I looked over the spread, I just didn't think that it was a good shuffle. I had 9 cards and 7 of them were pents, and all four court cards were in there. I hadn't ordered my cards in a while, but I just felt that it wasn't a good shuffle. So I picked them up, shuffled and dealt again. But thenI wondered if I really needed to look at an issue dealing with money and that was why all those pents were in there.
How do you all deal with this, if it has ever happened to you?

If it didn't feel right or make sense I start over.
I think some people frown on that but really, if you *are* meant to know what was said in that reading it'll come up again (I've had that happen to me, same cards keep coming up, and it's like ooook I get it, I'll pay attention now.)

I had that happen to me last night. As I was laying the cards I thought "This is /not/ right" so I picked them back up and shuffled again. I think I shuffled the deck for thirty minutes before I felt ready. I also gave the deck a quick cleansing to make sure there wasn't energy from another spread or something else hanging around my deck.

I haven't found that happening to me with my Rider deck yet, but with my Dragon deck I found that every time I tried to do a reading with them, it would come out completely wrong. :( Unfortunately, I had to stop using that deck, even though it is a wonderful one.
I do find that my Rider deck growls at me a lot, more in the past though, and I wasn't using them for months on end because of it. I think they just needed time to themselves, or a really good cleansing, which I didn't do at that time. :dis:

Flaire, I too think that maybe your Dragon and Rider deck just need a really good cleasning, try with the new moon coming up to smudge them with sage and maybe put a few amythest crystals round the decks with you leave them to bask in the moons rays :)
Otherwise if you really dont feel conected with them, maybe you could exchange here for another deck from someone else :)
I agree with Myst and Maya, and too get 'wrong' readings every now and again, if the little voice/your guide(s) tells you its not right, then theres no harm at all in starting again and giving them a really good shuffle until you feel totally right that they are happy and ready to give you the answers you need :)
Even if your reading for someone else, if the cards dont seem right then just explain this to them and get them shuffle again, really relaxing into the cards, or thinking about there question.

I am glad I am not the only one that happens too. :) At first, I looked at the cards and said "No way was that a good shuffle." Then I second guessed myself and wondered if I was doing that b/c I didn't like the cards. Not that they were a bad or anything. In fact the second dealing (See Fog Cutter Spread) had more "bad" cards than the first one.
Anyway, I am babbling again. need more coffee!
And as always, go with the gut feeling!

:dis: I've been cleansing my Rider deck a ton lately, so hopefully that helps. ;) If not, I'm on the lookout for a new deck that I might connect to more. :)

I hope the cleasning worked Flaire :sunny:
If not why not spend some quality time meditating with this deck and going through each card, and see what they say to you, if they still dont appear to be friendly and helpful maybe another deck would be more you.

Sure I've had that happen. We're not going to be 'spot on' every time. Usually I figure that I didn't really focus while I was shuffling the first time. Sometimes the cards do needs to be cleansed of previous energies, and sometimes we need to shake off the last reading (or whatever we were doing) ourselves and ground and center before trying again.
