View Full Version : Double readings?

I've just started to do readings, but I'm still not sure whether I interpret the cards correctly. But the thing is that a couple of days ago I did a reading for myself with a very worrying, but on the whole probable result. Is it a good thing to do, then, if I ask someone else the question and see if the answer is the same?

I think it's better to learn to trust your instincts and your cards than second guess them both. A woman I met this weekend told a story of how she consulted the runes about a question then later asked the tarot cards and the tarot told her that she should be happy with the answer she already got from the runes.

Thanks for replying, but I'm afraid I'd prefer being wrong in my interpretation. I drew the Tower for the result and as far as I know that card gives no hope. Or maybe I'm wrong?

It depends on the situation. If the situation you're in is trapping you, then the tower can signify an abrupt end to your imprisonment as the walls built up to confine you are torn away. If, on the other hand, you built the tower to isolate yourself and keep yourself "safe" from a given situation, then that isolation and "safety" is about to come to an end. . . in which case, do what you can, but do it with an acceptance, not a denial, of the final result.

I also often think of the tower as the pride of man or representing those things we build up and think are permanent and impenetrable. Perhaps you have built a mental wall around something and it's time for that wall to disappear and for you to allow that thing to be part of you again. Remember, no book, no web site and no other person can tell you what something means to you personally. Try to clear you mind of all the notions you have about that card and just look at it until you really see it for what it is and not what you expect it to be. If need be... write down your feelings about it and come back to it later when you've cleared your mind and see if you still feel the same or if it speaks to you in a different way.

Maya is right, sometimes the cards get annoyed if you ask the same question over and over. You might try pulling more clarifier cards or saving the spread and asking someone else their thoughts on it? You could also ask runes or something else for more clarification.
And to me, in general the Tower means time for change. A lot of people are afraid of it but it can be the best thing in a situation.

I agree with Phoenix, that it depends on your situation on how the Tower is interpreted. I had a reading done a couple of months ago and the Tower turned up as one of the major arcana in the reading. I found it more positive than negitive in the situation I was in. :)

Merry Meet Emaleth :) You must be our first Polish member!! :boing:
I agree with everyone here, the tower represents change, and can be a change for the better, a breaking down of everything, to start and rebuild again! It just depends on how you look at it ;)
Maybe why dont you try asking the cards ~ why they gave you the tower? ~ and see what they come up with.
& remember that if this card stood for an outcome, it is not set in stone and can be changed by you. Thats the beauty of the tarot, the cards can show us one way, so we can go the other ;)

Thanks every one! I guess I shouldn've thought more. I'm just starting out with Tarot, so I'm using a book that gives interpretations of each card, and it is written that the Tower means a disaster, but also a release from prison. This may be true about the wall I was building and I hope that it is going to fall down eventually and I'll be free from my personal prison. Also the Hanged Man next to the Tower may indicate a blocade, is that right? And, as I've read, a hard and low paid job. ROTFL! I'm going to be a teacher and teachers in Poland don't earn much :)

:) I know about Poland being very Pagan :) Its a great country, I visited a few years agao but I cant for the life or me remember where.. I got the train from Prague with a freind to a village in the middle.. it was beautiful :sunny:
With the Hanged Man next to the Tower Id say it is about a personal sacrifice, something you have to give up willingly, it could be to do with your teaching career but more to do with your personal (the prison you spoke of) I think. Maybe some more soul searching would help you more, its always great to look inside to re-check ourselves however painful it is, that way we can move on and really learn from life.

For me, the hanged man is all about seeing the world from a different view. I'd recommend (when you're alone and in the mood to be 'odd') to try standing on your head for a bit. Then you can really see how changing your perspective changes everything. Things that you couldn't see before become visible while things you thought were familiar are now different. If this is a little much for you then I'd say grab a photo of yourself and turn it upside down. Faces look so strange upside down that you don't even realize that it's you after just a little while. You can also try one of my favorite tricks from when I was a kid which is to hold a mirror at about the belly button with it facing the ceiling then walk around while watching the mirror in the ceiling. It's a strange way to navigate a house but also offers a different perspective.
As far as the hanged man next to the tower goes... perhaps it's time to look at an obstacle from some different angles?

The hanged man to me represents obstacles that stop you or things that hold you back - things that literally hang you upside down by your toes. Since the tower means big change it and you seem worried I'd say there's a change in the air that you should try to accept and embrace, that it'll be for the better if you can sacrifice whatever you're holding onto (even if that's just the security of not letting change happen). What came after the Tower in your reading?
It may say to you that the wall you're building and the prison you feel in you've put yourself in through fear of change, or that you have to make the changes to take down that wall.

Actually, the Tower was the last card, the outcome, that's why I got sort of freaked out. But all the interpretations you gave me really made me think. I want to thank everybody for the help, now I understand more of my situation and I also learned much about the Tarot itself. I still have trouble with the Minor Arcana, though, they seem quite abstract to me and I'm not able to identify with them and feel them. I hope it will come with practice. :)
