I have a few quick questions. Some people whom I know get another reading if they do not like what they heard in a first reading. For example, if they do not like what they learned in one reading of the tarot, they will just have another reading done. I have been studying the I Ching, and I learned that once you have consulted the book about a particular question, you should let the question rest, since "the master only speaks once." Do other forms of divination have similar sayings? Do you believe that once you get a reading, no matter what form of divination you use, you should let the matter rest? Is it appropriate to seek other forms of divination if one form is not helpful? For example, if you get unclear advice from the I Ching, can you turn to runes, tarot, palmistry....etc?

I'm a firm believer that you normally get the message first time. I've muddied up readings by trying the same question again and again. It's as though my cards throw up their hands and say 'well, we've done all we can - sort it out, will you?'

I do a reading for myself only when I have a specific question. I need to practice my readings, so I'll read for others - either on here, or for for free on a website - oh, a quick plug for it, I'm sure the mods won't mind:

Tarot Association of the British Isles - TABI (http://www.tabi.org.uk/)

Saying that, I draw a card for myself every day as 'advice' for the day, but not to actually see what I'm going to face. Mind you, that's often what happens, when I look back on the day!

What I do when I feel like my reading hasn't given me the appropriate information is to try other readings that build on that question. For example if I had two options and asked which one I should choose, then wondered why it picked the one path rather than the other I could ask a question about how that path will benefit me or why the other path would be bad.. then I might want to ask what I can do to help that path along. Usually I get all I want in the first spread (since if I don't know a spread to use I make one) but sometimes I might need clarification or a lot of detail that I didn't expect to want.

...good point, but it's a different question your asking, surely? I mean the first one could be 'which path' and the second one 'how will this benefit me?' I can see that is really useful.

Hehehe... this is why I rarely read for myself... if I do a reading for myself, & just absolutely don't 'get it', then I'll do it over... it happens on those occasionswhen I'm really tired or stressed.

I have clients that come to me on a regular basis, & ask essentially the same questions each time; & I give 'em essentially the same answers, over & over... I also get a lot of clients that are looking for a 'second opinion' reading... they might have gotten one from someone else that just didn't 'feel' right to 'em, or they read for themselves, & didn't understand the results...

Yeah, my cards repeat the same stuff over and over if I keep asking the same question and then they can get pretty sarcastic!

Sometimes I can mess up a reading by being in a funky mood or asking one question when I have something else on my mind. I usually take some deep breaths, clear my mind and try again and I usually don't have a problem with that...

Nina, your exactly right. There's no sense in asking the same question but if I have more questions about the same subject I'll keep going. Example, if I liked someone and wanted to know if they felt the same I'd ask that question. Then if the answer was 'yes' I may ask if I should make the first move or just wait.

I read tarot and have for about 8 years and everytime I do a reading for someone who doesn't necessarily like their response, the first thing they ask me to do is to perform another reading for them. It seems that everytime I repeat a reading, the cards either reinforce what they already said, or give us a more indepth reading into one aspect of the previous reading. For example, I performed three readings, all in a row, for one of my friends. The first reading was broad and seemed to refer to more than one problem. The second reading seemed to take one of the problems and discussed it in detail. The third reading then talked about one aspect from the the problem in the second reading and discussed it in even greater detail. So I guess my whole opinion on multiple readings is that they will only offer more obvious information or just reinforce what has already been said. Of course, my opinion is based primarily on my own experience.
