I came of my motorcycle the other day - not the first time and it probaly won't be the last. It had been raining and I took a corner in a bad way....

Last time I came off I brushed myself off and hoped back on without a second thought, but this time around I have a mental block, a fear of turning left on my bike... I know it sounds quite funny, especialy as I can do rights no problem. But everytime I try to turn left my arms lock and my neck won't turn properly. I have spent a couple of hours in carparks just practicing and this has helped to an extent but I am still off form.

I haven't been riding long, and to take a blow to my confidence now is crippling. Alot of time and money has been spent on learning how to ride, its my cost effective way of getting about, its stress-buster as riding with a road all to your self is really liberating.

I've decided to take a week off and then go back fresh, but if anyone could spare a thought, a prayer, a spell for restoring confidence and beating down stupid phobias I'd appreciate it very much.

Sending energies for healing and confidence. I ran into the rear end of an SUV two months ago - the driver was waiting to turn but she didn't have on any turn signal or brake lights. I was terribly nervous about driving and hyper-alert to watch for people who were going slow or stopped but didn't have their foot on the brake. I think practicing in the parking lot is a very good idea.

And here's a thought, maybe you gave yourself a case of whiplash - injured your neck making it stiff when you try to turn it and that stiffness extends down your arms?

Aww :hugz:

Think of it this way - at least you know what you did wrong, so you'll be less likely to do it again.
Unless you are seriously battered I wouldn't take a weeks break while you are still concernd, because it just makes you more afraid next time you try to ride.

*sending energy* and best wishes, because nothing compares to being free on the open road with only your motorbike for company. :D

I also ride a motorcycle, and I've come off a couple times (one involved me hitting a parked truck head on .... LOOOONG story). I also ride horses, and there's one thing my mom always taught me with regards to horses. If you don't want to get bucked off ... don't get on. I know how much fun and how wonderfully liberating it is to ride a motorcycle. Being out on the road, the engine roaring under you, the wind whipping past you, and it's just you and your machine. Fear is the only thing crippling your progress, and if you get on that machine with that fear you will come off of it again in a bad way. You need to mentally clear the accident from your mind and realize it was nothing more than an accident ... and if you look at the bright side you now know the limitations of your riding and your bike.

I will definately be sending you positive energy, but the best spell for you is to look inside of yourself and ask yourself this question, "What risks am I willing to accept?" The answer to that question will determine whether or not you get back on that bike or sell it.
