The woman I love has problems with bad nightmares. To the point where it keeps her from getting the sleep she needs.
Is there a symbol or a group of symbols that would aid in helping her stop or atleast lessen these nightmares?

No idea if this is what you're asking for, but Dream-catchers are said to get rid of bad dreams. You can make them yourself or buy them and you place them near your/her bed.
...good dreams slip through the web and into the sleeper during the night
...bad dreams become caught in the web and are perished by morning light.

Not that I ever had much trouble with nightmares but since I have a dreamcatcher above my bed, I've never had any at all anymore. And that has been about 6 years or so.

I would look into dreamcatchers as well as maybe putting together a small pouch with a protection rune of your choice and a piece of turquiose, flourite, amethyst,a pinch of black salt (to keep away evil forces), a pinch of hyssop, a pinch of lavender, You can place these items or items you choose into a piece of light blue cloth and tie it up tuck into the bottom of her pillow. You can look up and find your own items the above are merely suggestions.

They could also keep a bell made of real silver on the night stand and ring as needed to dispel a nightmare and cleanse the atmosphere.

Whenever I have any real problems with nightmares, I use a dreamcatcher. Surprisingly, they do seem to help. The thing to remember about nightmare tools, though, is that they are mainly psychological - nighmares come from our psyche, from our own mind, so the talisman needs to be of importance to her.
If you do end up getting a dreamcatcher, make sure you get one with a real stone in the center - the legend that I had heard (from a woman who hand-made them, though she didn't live on the reservation anymore) was that good dreams are smart enough to get through the web, bad dreams become caught in it, and then are trapped in the stone at the center. The stone holds them until morning, and the sunlight melts them away.
Meadhbh- I like that idea! Does it actually work? I mean, have you used it yourself?

Go to magic & ritual. There is an anti-nightmare spell.

If they're stopping her from sleeping, maybe some actual medical attention couldn't hurt- it could be due to chemical or psychological imbalances. Untill then, dreamcatchers work too. ;)

I normally keep an amythest crystal near the bed for protection and a restful sleep. The dreamcatcher idea really might help especially if it's psychological.
ETA: I made a dreamcatcher in therapy once, and it really seemed to help. coupled with having someone to talk to of course. :)
Good luck,

Practically - I find that I get nightmares if I'm too hot while I'm asleep (warm room, or too many covers); or if the room is too quiet. Maybe there's something about the environment of the room that could be changed?
I also find that smudging the bedroom with incense (try cedar, sage, frankincense, or lavender) helps if the room seems to be filled with stale or negative energy...

Also, if there are any real life traumas or things that would trigger the nightmares counseling might help. There are also things that happen in childhood that can be repressed and sometimes show themselves as nightmares...I had a friend that repressed being molsted and she would have weird dreams that with counseling made sense.
I don't know if she has any problems like that though, just another idea.

I've attached my version of a bindrune to help keep away bad dreams. You can draw it on a piece of paper & place it under or inside the pillow, or carve it into wood or clay & hang it over the bed. It can also be carved into a candle to be burned before bedtime.

I understand Elhaz and Eihwaz, I sorta get Tinaz, but why Ehwaz (if you don't mind explaining)? Not trying to be challenging, just wanting to understand.
I use charm poems myself:
Night Fears
Her love stays
Bright and Strong.
Through all days,
And all night long.
Post-Tramatic Stress
Back it goes from whence it came-
On your head.
It's your anger and your shame-
Banishéd.

No Algiz (Elhaz) intended (but if it shows up, that's OK, too  ). This is a bind of Eihwaz (the hunter's bow; here, by extension, representing the hunter), Ehwaz (his horse), and Tiwaz (his spear, or lance). Sorta like a knight on his charger, but instead of slaying dragons, he slays bad dreams, so to speak.
