Hi Chris,
Ok here it is. Don't everybody throw tomatoes at once. Please be gentle. hehe!
_inabox_
Primal Triad: Sun, Moon, Ascendant
Sun (personality, ego, identity) = Pisces (water)
On a very deep level, Pisces can never truly get the practical functioning of this world. As much as they may try to fit in and get along, there is always some sort of disconnection with the rules, the necessities, and the daily grind that comprises the life of people. Somehow out of step and out of touch with the “real” world, Pisces feels much more at home in the abstract, the land of vision and imagination, the innermost space of their souls. There is a sensitivity there that may be subtle, but is deep, as this world often seems cold and harsh. Very fluid, Pisces feels alien in a world that thrives on labels and definitions.
Why are you alive? The Pisces Sun paints a picture of the need for emersion in the other world… the world within. You discover this world by the very means that bring forth the ends… you go within. Despite what the outer world may tell you, this inner world is your natural home, just as valid, just as important (if not more so) than what you can see with your eyes or touch or taste. Where is the arena that this focus of your identity is played out? through your instincts, through your ability to transcend dimensions of reality, through facing that ultimate veil: death, through merging oneself fully with another in a sexual bond; the 8th house. This is the arena that is most natural to your fullest self expression and discovery.
Moon (instinct, mood, feelings, fears) = Libra (air)
The need here is for beauty and harmony, and the individual has a strong sense of fairness and justice. A lack of peace in the environment can feel very disturbing, as the innermost feelings are sensitive to discord and disruption. Yet the balance in the emotional arena must be achieved while allowing and expressing this sensitivity. You must learn to set healthy emotional boundaries.
What is most essential to your happiness? You need to cultivate a harmonious environment, one of peace and beauty. You must attain this tranquility without compromising your integrity. How do you do this? By paying close attention and learning to recognize the moment you become unbalanced. And you must cultivate relationships that offer support and nurturing, because it is very easy for you to comprise yourself for the sake of others.
Where do you face your most challenging emotional issues? Through communication with others (3rd house). You must examine your perceptions and learn to trust yourself.
Ascendant (mask, how we deal with outer world, how we express our personality) = Leo (fire)
How do you cope with life, how do you allow the sensitivity of your innermost self (Pisces sun) and your need for beauty, fairness, and peace (Libra moon) to express itself? The Leo ascendant shines on the world with confidence, creativity and showmanship. “Look at me!” he says. The individual was naturally made to shine, and so he does, like the sun, which demands acknowledgment, but also offers us life and warmth.
The ascendant here shows a confidence that is not necessarily present beneath the outer surface, but it is a good coping skill to allow the more sensitive energies to remain protected. And yet it may paint an incomplete picture to those that cannot or will not look deeper. The risk is that others may assume you have a much thicker skin.
And yet there’s a harmonious aspect between the ascendant and moon (sextile) which possibly indicates that you express more warmth and generosity than overconfidence, which pleases others and in turn helps to establish the harmony you crave.
What’s more is that your Sun is also the ruler of your ascendant, which establishes a natural congruence between the outer mask that you present to others and your true identity.
Overall your general makeup is fairly balanced, perhaps a bit more subjective, with a somewhat higher necessity to yield to grander forces than to attempt to carve your own path. There’s a fairly even mix of the elements, and with slightly more fixed planets than the others modalities… meaning you have a higher tendency toward continuity and finishing what you start, although there may be more resistance to change.
Saturn is in its rulership in Capricorn, so you’re likely to have a strong sense of responsibility and duty, but with it being in the 5th house you may feel inhibition to express your natural playfulness. And with it squaring your Moon, there may be a tendency to curtail the full expression of your feelings, at times adding a sense of frustration and gloominess.
Another important focal point is Mercury (in Pisces, 7th house), which conjuncts the Sun, is in its detriment, and is retrograde. Your personality is naturally geared to communication, learning, teaching, and writing. And yet your ability to communicate is perhaps somewhat awkward in its expression, perhaps more easily utilized in receiving intuition and insight than in its expression with others, especially with those with whom you are most intimate.
Uranus is also retrograde and in its detriment, and in this perhaps you desire a more unconventional and flamboyant existence that is mostly played out in your imagination, while outwardly you appear more conventional. The other potential is that your mind is free to explore the atypical realm and in this you can tap into dimensions not easily accessed by others.
You have North Node in Virgo in the 2nd house, with South Node in Pisces in the 8th (part of the stellium of planets in Pisces). The purpose of your life path is to become grounded as a healer.
With Chiron on the descendant, there is a strong desire to be admired by others (which plays into the mask of the ascendant), but this can distort the sense of self and of knowing who you are in relation to others. Many lessons can be learned from intimate relationships, and the wisdom attained can serve to balance the impact that the native has on others, which can be on a mass scale.
A word about Pluto… in this case it is retrograde in Virgo, in the 1st house. This is a new evolutionary cycle, which may include a very instinctual sense of feeling special. This is emphasized by a Leo ascendant, whose ruler is conjunct the Sun. The strong desire for independence and freedom of self expression may be countered by a the desire to engage in relationships, and then relying too heavily on the partner’s views. Given Chiron’s placement in the polarity house, it is vital that supportive and harmonious relationships are cultivated to encourage the individual to be true to himself. There is a need to learn to balance the individual’s needs with those of others, and to learn effective communication and listening skills. With the retrograde there may be a hesitation to assert oneself, which must be consciously addressed and overcome.
Well? Feedback please. :hahugh:

Thank you SO much for doing this, New Phoenix - it's very much appreciated, and I'm still not used to these subforums so I managed to miss this post at first!
Despite what the outer world may tell you, this inner world is your natural home, just as valid, just as important (if not more so) than what you can see with your eyes or touch or taste.
Yes, this is very true. Sometimes I think I'm not very Piscean at all (I tend to be quite logical and structured), but I have a very strong and vivid imagination, and I'm not very practical. I'm a good computer programmer, because that really does involve massive visualisation but needs no "earthy" hands-on stuff - it's all mind stuff.
This is my downfall. When I'm in a relationship, I want to merge with the other person. I don't think this is healthy; it usually ends up with me getting very hurt, and I spend most of my time single because I'm scared of the emotional intensity.
Yes, I think that's a lesson I've learned in my friendships, but not in my romantic relationships. I need to be liked, too - I think people pleasing is quite typical Moon in Libra!
I've never really got a handle on my Moon being 3rd house. I can talk about my feelings, but find talking about them easier than actually feeling them - a bit strange for a Pisces Sun.
I love the idea of Asc as a mask; it truly is. I'm showy; I can stand up in front of large groups of people and "perform". I can give a structured lecture, or an impromptu performance. I've used the word "I" six times in this paragraph, which reflects the six keywords of Leo: me, me, me, me, me and me :D
Absolutely spot on!!
And yet there’s a harmonious aspect between the ascendant and moon (sextile) which possibly indicates that you express more warmth and generosity than overconfidence, which pleases others and in turn helps to establish the harmony you crave.
There is that sextile, but don't forget there's also a square to Saturn (quite a wide one, and it's separating, but even so...)
I'd not really considered the excess of fixed energy; I tend to exclude outer planets like Uranus and Neptune (both in fixed signs) when working out element balances because they're generational, but I am quite good at finishing what I start - so that's a very good point.
Partially true, but I love my Saturn; he's served me very well. Saturn in the 5th *looks* like I'm not having fun, but I am really. When I was a kid, all the other kids were climbing trees and kicking footballs around. I was in the library, getting very excited over finding a new book. For me that kept my Saturn in the 5th happy, and my inner Pisces world. I still get that sense of excitement, and over very geeky things. I'm doing an MA which gives me access to a huge resource of online materials, and the thrill I got from discovering that, and the thrill I got from getting a reading ticket to a major university library a few years back free of charge is as big a high as any adrenalin rush - it just that people don't think it *looks* like fun!
I could never get a handle on Mercury being in detriment and retrograde. I communicate; I have always had Mercurial jobs (computer programmer, astrologer, running training courses, writing articles). My spelling and grammar are pretty good, and of course Mercury does very closely sextile my Saturn.
Then I heard Bernadette Brady, my astrological hero, talking about Mercury in detriment (she has Mercury in Pisces too) when I was doing her medieval diploma course. She says the idea of detriment is a medieval one, and that medieval astrology is pretty right-wing and likes the status quo. "Imagine you're the only person in your village with a different religion to everyone else, and you're trying to sell your goods in the market", she says. Obviously, you'd have a hard time. However, nowadays, you can be the only pagan in your town and people will accept that and buy your goods - you're just seen as being a little eccentric. So she says planets in detriment are unconventional. "Mercury still communicates, because that's what he does", she says. "But instead of being a spokesman for the king, Mercury in Pisces does something socially outrageous and away from the norm - like teaching astrology, for example!".
And he's in the 12th house. This should be a weak Uranus by anyone's reckoning. However, I have a strong Uranian signature. I'm an astrologer and a computer programmer (these are Mercurial and Uranian - and both these planets are in detriment and retrograde). I'm not sure I'm too bothered about outers being retrograde - after all, they spend almost half their time retrograde, so it's not that big a deal - but the 12th house should be weak and hidden. Uranus is closely opposed by Mars, and actually I *feel* that opposition, and love it. I think it's creative tension. It still didn't make sense that Uranus is 12th house.
However, at a conference last year, during a coffee break the astrologer Rob Hand and I were playing with some "astrodice". These are three 12-sided dice, one with planets, one with houses, one with signs on. Rob threw Uranus in Leo in the 12th, and said "wonder what that means?". I said "that's me! I've got Uranus in Leo in the 12th". He disagreed - he's a great afficionado of whole-sign houses now, and said "no, your Ascendant is Leo, so that Uranus is first house because it's in the same sign as your Ascendant." I was highly dubious - but he said "well? Does that fit you better, or not?" - and I had to admit, my Uranus certainly *feels* more 1st house than 12th house to me!
You have North Node in Virgo in the 2nd house, with South Node in Pisces in the 8th (part of the stellium of planets in Pisces). The purpose of your life path is to become grounded as a healer.
Lots of people have said that. When I was a kid, teachers used to confide in me and tell me their problems, completely unbidden. Is that my healing node, or my Libra Moon, though?
With Chiron on the descendant, there is a strong desire to be admired by others (which plays into the mask of the ascendant), but this can distort the sense of self and of knowing who you are in relation to others. Many lessons can be learned from intimate relationships, and the wisdom attained can serve to balance the impact that the native has on others, which can be on a mass scale.
My Chiron is within minutes of Venus, too (and opposite Pluto). My relationships are wounded and often quite obsessional. Everyone says Chiron is the wounded healer; that's true, but we must remember that mythologically Chiron was a great healer, but his own wound never healed; he only solved his pain by dying.
A word about Pluto… in this case it is retrograde in Virgo, in the 1st house. This is a new evolutionary cycle, which may include a very instinctual sense of feeling special. This is emphasized by a Leo ascendant, whose ruler is conjunct the Sun. That's an interesting one. We must remember that our attitudes and behaviours can change, but our charts don't. When I was younger I would say it was very true that I would hesitate about asserting myself. I assert myself now, and probably over-compensate. Pluto on the Ascendant is supposed to come across as quite scary, but I definitely don't; I think oppositions can play out as projection psychologically, and so I project the Pluto onto other people, and play out the wounded Venus myself.
So thanks so much once again - that's a very valuable reading!
Chris.

The way I look at it is the you are Pisces with all the Pisces attributes (or whatever way that translates for you personally), but you also have other influences, like we all do, from the other planets and configurations. So it's very likely to be both imaginative and unpractical AND logical and structured. I noticed your 6th house is ruled by Saturn (29 deg)... wouldn't that add the structure aspect to your work and daily routine?? Also, just wondering about this... but regarding your gift for computer programming... would the Uranus in 12 opposite Mars in 6th have something to do with it? Considering the Technological gifts and insights (Uranus-12th) translating into the practical daily/work application (Mars-6th)... what do you think?
On a side note... what do you know about the planets at 29 degrees? (also house rulers, etc.) I noticed your Chiron is at 29 deg. Also my moon and mars are both at 29 deg. Isn't there some kind of significance to that?
This is my downfall. When I'm in a relationship, I want to merge with the other person. I don't think this is healthy; it usually ends up with me getting very hurt, and I spend most of my time single because I'm scared of the emotional intensity.
I can relate to you about wanting to merge with another person as deeply as possible. I've always been like that and can't see the day I will no longer be like that. But I guess the way I see it is that it's very natural to connect on a very deep level... in fact, so deep that we come to realize our inherent one-ness with one another. I don't think that's unhealthy at all. What's unhealthy about it is that many people can't handle going that deep without losing balance. It takes great awareness to stay grounded AND connect to another. But I'm a firm believer it can be done... not only can be done.. but I see a vision of how this will be the norm for ALL people one day. But for now, instead shying away from deep connections, I think the focus should be on cultivating awareness and balance WHILE deepening connections with others. Unfortunately, and in my personal experience, most people just can't handle deep connections. There's so much fear there... so many walls and barriers and reluctance to open up. It's a rare rare individual that can truly connect deeply. It can be disheartening (for me) to constantly encounter people's walls, but I suppose I understand how they came about.. and how difficult it is to let them go. I must be patient! (says Aries rising) lol!
Yes, I think that's a lesson I've learned in my friendships, but not in my romantic relationships. I need to be liked, too - I think people pleasing is quite typical Moon in Libra!
I once had a friend with Moon in Libra. The way I feel that energy is that it's a proactive way to establish harmony, goodwill, and peace in relationships. Like laying down carpet to ensure a comfortable path... the Libra Moon gives harmony first (some may interpret this as people pleasing), but it really does pave the way for the gentleness and harmony in relating that the Libra Moon really needs. Personally, I really appreciate the care that someone gives to create a peaceful environment... but maybe that's because I'm sensitive. :)
I've never really got a handle on my Moon being 3rd house. I can talk about my feelings, but find talking about them easier than actually feeling them - a bit strange for a Pisces Sun.
But isn't that the meaning behind the Moon in 3rd... it makes it rather Mercurial? The Pisces sun lends to being imaginative and other-worldly and sensitive... but that doesn't necessarily translate to consciously being in touch with the emotions that are there. It's not that some people don't have emotions (everybody has them) it's that some aren't as consciously aware of what they are, or can talk about them easily. With Moon in 3rd I think that makes it easier to fantasize... and to almost automatically translate emotions to thoughts... just my take on it.
LOLOL!!! :fpraise:
There is that sextile, but don't forget there's also a square to Saturn (quite a wide one, and it's separating, but even so...)
Hahaha! What you just wrote... isn't that a great example of the Moon/Saturn square aspect? Putting a touch of "realism" to the description of the Asc/Moon sextile?.. ok maybe that's a stretch....
I'd not really considered the excess of fixed energy; I tend to exclude outer planets like Uranus and Neptune (both in fixed signs) when working out element balances because they're generational, but I am quite good at finishing what I start - so that's a very good point.
I gave this some thought... about excluding the outer planets as they're generational. But that doesn't ring true for me because I see it as yes, they're generational too, but ALSO personal. I think everything in our chart translates on a personal level and becomes incorporated into our lives. There may be a general generational theme... but we all use that theme differently and make it our own. Maybe the key to look at is WHERE (house) are you being more "fixed". In your case Neptune is in 3rd house, Uranus in 12th.
This is excellent... another example of seeing things in a different perspective and bringing Astrology to life. I love it! And yes I can really see this... Saturn in 5th brings a *different* kind of fun... one that may seem more serious to some.. but is still quite fun to the individual. This reminds me of Anais Nin... I'm currently totally hooked on reading her diaries... she too (a Pisces) considered herself a bibliomaniac but loved every minute of it... but others around her didn't consider that as fun. She constantly compared herself to others her age that had more "typical" kind of fun. I can understand this joy.. I've had my nose stuck in books since I was a small child.
So she says planets in detriment are unconventional. "Mercury still communicates, because that's what he does", she says. "But instead of being a spokesman for the king, Mercury in Pisces does something socially outrageous and away from the norm - like teaching astrology, for example!".
Well I have Mercury retrograde also... and this is what I feel about it for me... my mind works in original and unusual ways... it's like the planet has slowed down a bit to take the thinking process deeper... but perhaps it's not as obvious on the surface level, what all is going on in the mind. This doesn't mean any kind of difficulty in communication really, just a special emphasis on the workings of that planet in your life, but one taking place more subjectively. Although for me I can see the bit of the typical Mercury retrograde characteristic of awkwardness too (my friend used to tease me about this)... because occassionally I get kinda air headed and my thoughts get screwy... like an occassional glitch in my inner computer. LOL! Does that happen to you?
It makes sense to me... you receive INSPIRATION... Uranian type inspiration (that is not of your personal making)... which lends itself quite nicely to creative expression, utilized and put into action by Mars.
I was highly dubious - but he said "well? Does that fit you better, or not?" - and I had to admit, my Uranus certainly *feels* more 1st house than 12th house to me!
That's interesting. But why can't it be a combination of the two, a mix of both influences? I've never understood the either/or way of interpreting charts.
Lots of people have said that. When I was a kid, teachers used to confide in me and tell me their problems, completely unbidden. Is that my healing node, or my Libra Moon, though?
Maybe the Libra moon assists your Node in helping you do what you're here to do.
I have a book about Chiron... and there's talk of making him the new ruler of Virgo. I can definitely see how that would be applicable, even more so than Mercury. Yes the archetype fits... and I relate to it personally very much. But that's what makes for a great healer... because he KNOWS from experience. Your relationships may have been obsessional... but look... you have Venus in your 7th house.. which means you're here to LEARN BALANCE in relationships. Just because a placement is there doesn't mean you already have it mastered. Isn't it so that we're hear to learn to master (or at least attempt to) the astrological signature we're born with? Perhaps with Chiron there it's a sign that this has been a long-standing pattern with you, in your spiritual history. And again... the fact that Chiron is at 29 deg... I can't help but feel this is significant. I'll consult my book later and see what I can find.
LOL! Well... you did say that you like to dive deep in relationships, and maybe that openness IS scary to others. Of course you know yourself to be very gentle and loving... and can't imagine how that would be scary to others... but don't forget... many people can't handle the honest and openness of a truly loving relationship... without even meaning to they hide behind their walls. Sure they'll SAY they want love... but actually going there and living it??
So thanks so much once again - that's a very valuable reading!
Chris.
You're very welcome. I've enjoyed it tremendously. :)

Yes, I definitely think that Mars/Uranus opposition is to do with my interest (in my younger days, one might have said obsession) with programming; and also my interest (one might say obsession) with astrology :D
On a side note... what do you know about the planets at 29 degrees? (also house rulers, etc.) I noticed your Chiron is at 29 deg. Also my moon and mars are both at 29 deg. Isn't there some kind of significance to that?
It's sometimes called an "aneuretic" degree, and the idea is that the planet is somehow "spent". It's not widely used, and the only rationale I can think of is in medieval astrology; as well as planets in rulership and exaltation, they had something called "terms" or "bounds", where each sign was divided into five unequal segments. Each segment was ruled by a planet (not Sun or Moon). The logic behind the terms escapes modern minds - it seems to be a very ancient system - and the only consistency of these terms or bounds is that the final two or three degrees are always ruled by either Mars or Saturn. So any planet at 29 degrees will be in the "terms" of a malefic - but it's a pretty minor thing, and I don't know whether it has any meaning or not.
One thing about the Moon though - if she won't make any further aspects in her sign to anything else, she's said to be "Void of Course". This isn't supposed to mean anything in a natal chart, but I've been trying this out for a few years with my clients, and if the Moon is *already* in a difficult condition in a natal chart, VOC Moon seems to make it even worse. If it's in a reasonable condition, being VOC doesn't seem to mean much. I noticed this with a client with a difficult Moon, and I asked if she had mother issues; most clients with similar configurations would say "yes, I find her rather difficult". This client said "mother issues? That's the understatement of the year!".
I totally agree. The problem is that it isn't just others that have the problem with deep connections - I think I have fear around them too. When I have a deep connection I just "fall", and feel totally out of control. It is scary.
Nicely put! I'm not really *that* hard on my Libra Moon :)
Ah yes, so the Moon can talk rather than feel. Yup, makes sense!
Hahaha! What you just wrote... isn't that a great example of the Moon/Saturn square aspect? Putting a touch of "realism" to the description of the Asc/Moon sextile?.. ok maybe that's a stretch....
The "yes but..." scenario? Yup - especially with the Moon in Libra, which always wants to put both viewpoints :)
I certainly wouldn't exclude the outers; just not sure whether Pluto in Virgo adds *that* much earth, if you see what I mean. Maybe Pluto in Virgo *does* add a lot of earth, simply because Pluto is so tied in with my personal planets. I wonder if Pluto in Virgo would be so significant if Pluto didn't aspect anything?
I think the book obsession is something a lot of astrologers have in common - and when I posted about this on another group I was amazed at how many astrologers have Saturn in the 5th (OK, I didn't measure it - it may have been 1/12 of them :D )
Well, I think one way it manifests is being black and white. If I'm in a lesson and don't understand one small part of it, it ruins the lesson for me. I other have to understand ALL of it, or NONE of it. And recently a friend of mine was very puzzled because I'd taken something he said the wrong way - he said "you always take things too literally", which I think is probably true. I tend to take things at face value, and when someone says "yes, but I didn't mean it like that", it does genuinely puzzle me - because I don't know how to interpret what they MEAN from what they SAY. He described this as being like "emotionally dyslexic", and he may have a point. This is something I'll need to mull over, but it would fit with a retrograde Mercury.
It makes sense to me... you receive INSPIRATION... Uranian type inspiration (that is not of your personal making)... which lends itself quite nicely to creative expression, utilized and put into action by Mars.
That's interesting. But why can't it be a combination of the two, a mix of both influences? I've never understood the either/or way of interpreting charts.
House systems are so fuzzy that we can often merge two houses - a planet may be, say, 3rd house in one system and 4th in the other, so it makes sense to merge the boundaries. I just have difficulty with 12th and 1st - they seem SO different from each other! It's like a big boundary - hidden, or not hidden? The odd thing is of course that visually a planet in the 1st house is BELOW the horizon and can't be seen; a planet in the 12th is ABOVE the horizon and is visible. That's always struck me as a bit odd, too!
I have a book about Chiron... and there's talk of making him the new ruler of Virgo. I can definitely see how that would be applicable, even more so than Mercury. Yes the archetype fits... and I relate to it personally very much. But that's what makes for a great healer... because he KNOWS from experience.
Ceres, the asteroid, is also about nurturing (and the word Ceres comes from the goddess of the harvest - we get our word "cereal" from the same root) so that seems Virgoan too. The astrologer Dennis Elwell (author of The Cosmic Loom) says he doesn't believe Chiron is the wounded healer; he thinks Chiron is the maverick, who does things differently. I've seen so many instances of Chiron being the wound (in my chart and others), so I don't really buy Dennis's argument personally. However, he's a maverick when it comes to rulerships - I've seen people suggest Virgo (for the nurturing), Sagittarius (because he's a centaur), Pisces (because he swapped places with a mortal so sacrificed himself), and Aquarius (because he's about alternative healing!).
It would be so much easier if we had twelve planets, one for each sign. However, if we allow Chiron to join the rulership club, we ought to let Vesta and Ceres in too; and since Chiron is a centaur, what would the other centaurs (like Pholus) rule? It starts to get messy :)
Yup, this is true - I think I feel like there's been a setback. I thought I'd grown and perhaps would be more mature and balanced next time I was in a relationship. Then this year (during my Pluto/Sun transit which is thankfully coming to an end) I fell madly in love despite it being transparently obvious that Mr. Right was most definitely *not* Mr. Right from the very beginning! It occurred to me that my reaction this year was pretty much identical to my reaction 30 years ago when I first fell for someone, and I gave myself a hard time thinking "have I learned NOTHING in thirty years?". Of course, someone pointed out to me that that negative voice sounds rather like Saturn - and how appropriate I should be talking about a THIRTY YEAR pattern, Saturn's number! I was so tied up with thinking of the Pluto/Sun transit (which can be transformative after the event) I hadn't noticed Saturn creeping up to my Ascendant!
LOL! Well... you did say that you like to dive deep in relationships, and maybe that openness IS scary to others. Of course you know yourself to be very gentle and loving... and can't imagine how that would be scary to others... but don't forget... many people can't handle the honest and openness of a truly loving relationship... without even meaning to they hide behind their walls. Sure they'll SAY they want love... but actually going there and living it??
Hmm, interesting point!
You're very welcome. I've enjoyed it tremendously. :)
Thanks again - me too :D
Chris.
