I very much enjoy this forum, and just wanted to share with everyone a lovely new deck by an artist named Sarah Ovenall. This deck is the Victoria Regina Tarot and my goodness, it is sumptuous! Done in black and white Sarah uses scenes from the Victorian age, the new inventions and social mores in a collage form to provide an elegant deck packed with wonderful imagery. One of the enjoyable aspects of this deck is the use of pocket watches for coins, Mason jars for cups, guns for swords and pens for wands. Both the Majors and minors show care and artristry, making every spread I've done a treat. If you enjoy Victorian memorabilia and prefer decks that are highly evocative, with well thought out imagery, please check out this deck. It's available through Llewellyn (www.llewellyn.com).
Anyone else have a favorite deck they enjoy? My other favorites are my Robin Wood deck and my Mary Hansen Roberts Whimsical Tarot deck. ( As you can see I lean toward the bright and colorful in my decks, so my passion for the Victoria Regina points toward the deck's intricate imagery.) Does anyone use crystals with their readings? Do you feel it amplifies your abilities when you do? bright blessings to everyone! otter

Here's the link at Aeclectic Tarot:

It's a beautiful deck, thanks for pointing it out! Is the card coated or would you be able to color it a bit yourself? I think it would look fabulous with some colored pencil embelishments (as they used to do to old portraits and things).

Hey otter :)
Thanks for the link maya, it is such a beautiful deck and I agree would be great to add colour too :)
Do the cards have titles on them ~ say the 2 of pocket watches or the Empress or the Moon? or are they just picutures with no writting at all? Its great how they are so different and quite novel :)

My favourite deck is my Secret tarot ~ it was the first deck I bought and has always been so brilliant to me :) I should of stopped there  as the other decks Ive since bought have not connected with me so well at all...
Theres a thread somewhere with everyone talking about there favourite decks ~ maybe do a search and look for it, its quite fun :)

I would love to use Crystals more with my readings, but I suppose I always do indirectly as I carry a small Amythest crystal in my portable Tarot bag and my house is covered in them, especially my longue where I read for friends and my bedroom where I read for myself by my altar, which again has quite a few! I believe that for me Flourite and Amythest work really well with my Secret deck :)
How about you otter?

I have an amethyst I hold before I read. Helps me no end.

Gotta say, my fave of all faves is the Tarot of the Cat People - gorgeous art work and very emotive, I get a lot of gut feelings when I read with this deck. I love it to bits - helps if you like cats mind! I don't think I'll ever abandon it for something new EVER!!

I've just started learning about crystals and I also hold an amythest before/or while 'playing' with my cards (sometimes I just get them out to luxuriate in the sumptuous piccies - how shallow!!), looks like I'm learning - I knew nothing about crystal properties two weeks ago!! I'm still in training!:-D

 That's a really nice deck, Otter. :)

My favorite deck is the Spiral (which I'm getting...finally....woo hoo!)..but right now I'm still using Rider Waite - I'm hoping they don't get jealous again once I get my Spiral deck. :blushake:

:D I have a quartz that I use in my tarot readings, cuz it's the only stone I had for the longest time. But now that I have a bunch more, which ones work best (or is it up to your deck??) :D

I've been looking at getting another deck but all the decks I've seen thus far are way too garish. I dislike bright colors or wild patterns. I really prefer jewel tones but haven't seen many decks like that.

Apologies for my late replies everyone, somehow I blew my tube on my monitor (and have been in the dark ever since! haha). I'm still enamored with the Victoria Regina deck. At the Wednesday Grove I did readings with them and we had some amazing exchanges.
The cards have a soft plastic -like coating Maya, so I don't know if the colored pencils would lay down color, but wouldn't that make them even more personal to do that!
As to the info on the cards SilverVenus, each of the cards have a white border that has simple lettering ie: two of Cups or Queen of Swords.
I too enjoy the Spiral Tarot, (my daughter's fav of all her decks). Flaire, I don't think your Rider will be jealous, I've had many decks for years and find that different readings call for different decks and I think my cards know this and help me choose for the specific reading. (My Robin Wood's are strictly personal cards and I only use them for spell work/ meditation.) But, what you are saying makes sense to me, I find myself visiting my cards if I haven't used them in a while, and I rediscover why I love them.
As to the crystals with readings Cybadiva, I've never really been into crystals until just a few weeks ago, when a friend gifted me with a piece of flourite and encouraged me to use it during a reading we did. I think it added a zip to the flow of energy. So I've been working on the crystal aspect since. Anyone found one crystal more appropriate for certain kinds of tarot work? hugs Otter

Hi otter, I agree with you about Flourite giving an extra ompth to reading with energy I love using it along with Amythest for pyhsic clarity anf to focus my thoughts more, I also like Tigers eye for added strength to my own instinct and quartz to direct the querrants energy into the cards. I find if the querrant is very emotional or wants to ask about love, Rose quartz is very helpful to calm and also open up.. Id say just take the crystals qualities and use the relevant ones for relevant reading sna d see what happens :)

Thanks for the inof about your beautiful deck too :)

The Victorian deck is beautiful and just different enough to catch my interest. Normally, I don't like all of the various versions, but this is one that I will consider obtaining.
