I'm tired of making everyone else happy. I think my job on the planet is not to be happy but to ensure the happiness of my family and co-workers.
I don't know if it the empathy or what but when ever someone is upset I have to cheer them up and if I don't it feels like its my fault they are upset to begin with.
I want to be happy but I can't or at least thats how it feels. I had to get that out.

I do that a lot too. I take EVERYTHING personally. always put others ahead of my self. Lately I have learned that this isnt healty, it really isnt. I seem to be having a really hard time changing the way I work though.
Frankly, I am tired of stress headaches and my jaw hurting from clenching my teeth, but I dont know how to turn my back and just let things go their own way with out my help.
What are we to do?

While I cant make everyone happy,I can from time to time lift up a sad heart, and be a friend to someone who needs one.A few kind words of hope, and a prayer, with words to comfort,or just a listening ear, will ussually help.
The reward is great,,it lifts me up,and blesses me,,and I gain a friend.

being an empath myself, I totally understand where you're coming from. It's almost like, "if this person isn't happy, then their emotions make me unhappy. So, it's necessary for me to make them happy in order to make myself happy."
It sucks, but you have two options...continue doing what you're doing, because in the long run you feel better....or....practice stronger techniques to separate their emotions from yours and put up shields against it. Unless it's close friends or family, I tend to just try to offer a few words of encouragement or a nice little gesture, and let it drop. Then, if possible, I avoid that person until their emotions change. If it's family, of course, you can't do that. Especially if they're in the same house with you. :hugz:
