I found a book at the book store titled The Instant Astrologer by Lyn Birkbeck, whom I guess is in the UK. The book seems quite nice, and there is a CD for the calculation of charts. I breezed through it, and it looks nice, but the price was a bit off puting, so I was wondering if any of you have seen this book, and whether it is worth the BIG price they are charging for it. Like $69.00 US for the book seems high compared to the other Gold Standards that have been recommended by this forum.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I got sent a review copy when it came out a year or so ago.
It's an OK as an interpretation "cookbook", covering natal aspects, transits and relationships. The software is very basic - it just does birth charts, transits and interpretations - but it does an OK job.
It sells for around £39 here in the UK, which I think is rather steep for what you get, compared with say, the Parker books. But it's beautifully laid out and printed on good paper. It would make a nice present for somebody who is interested in astrology, but only wants to print out charts and interpretations for friends.
If you've a serious interest in astrology and you're buying for yourself, there are cheaper "beginner" books out there - anything by the Parkers, for instance. They don't come with software, but you can calculate charts for free online, or download Astrolog.
