I haven't had a bladder infection in years, but started getting symptoms a couple days ago.

One day drinking 3 glasses of cranberry juice and it's gone. Of course I am still drinking it, just to make sure it doesn't come back.

My medicinal herbal says it keeps the bacteria from being able to adhear to the lining of the bladder. Good stuff!

Yup! A glass of cranberry juice a day will keep the bladder infections away! :D

I love cranberries & cranberry juice! I use a lot of dried cranberries baked into muffins & breads. I also make a cranberry/orange sauce that I use instead of jam for my toast. Mmmmmm!!

Oh wow, I always make cranberry orange sauce for Thanksgiving! Love the stuff! With fresh ginger in it too.

There is something about the combo of cranberries and oranges.

Heh! That's how I started using cranberry sauce on toast. I made so much of it last Thanksgiving. Couldn't bear to throw it all away. I like so much better than regular jam...not as sweet.

I've never tried it on toast, what a great idea for leftovers, or just because. Thanks! :sunny:

On toast! Wonderful!

We make it from the recipe on the bag, but use honey (& only honey) for the sweetener. :mmm: But there's always so MUCH!

Kate, did you replace the sugar with honey equally? I would like to do that with my recipe too.

I found this recipe in a magazine somewhere & this is what we used.

Cranberry Sauce with Apricots and Ginger

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup chopped dried apricots
1/2 tsp finely grated fresh ginger root
1/2 tsp salt
4 cups fresh/frozen cranberries

Combine first five ingredients in a large saucepan. Heat and stir on low until sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil. Simmer uncovered, on medium/low for 10 minutes. Add cranberries. Simmer for 15 minutes until sauce has thickened. Makes 3 2/3 cups of sauce. {{I suspect it's waaay more than that!}} Sauce will thickened on cooling.

I think so.

Let's see if I remember the recipe....

I think it goes:

1 bag cranberries
2 oranges, whole washed (with peel ON)
1 cup honey

Combine all ingredients in food-processor. Chill. Serve.

I may have the amount of honey wrong... If it's not enough, add to taste.

My mother had a tendency to hate white-sugar in cooking, just because the taste is so... boring. Lacks complexity. Now, brown sugar, molasses, honey, those add FLAVOR! :mmm: And both of us are really fond of honey... I've even eaten straight crystalized-honey on toast. (Crystalized honey -- the stuff you've let sit until it's solidified. You can un-crystalize it by heating it in the microwave or in a double-boiler.)

how do you administer the cranberry ect?? do you just mix it up and they willingly eat it?

Or are you using the cranberry capsules?

The title of this thread reminded me of those "Behold the power of cheese" commercials that they show around here! ;)

I have a great muffin recipe that uses Craisin's... it has cream cheese and orange zest in it... I'll have to see if I can find it. It was in a recent issue of Yankee magazine. Love my cranberries!
