View Full Version : Strange Orbs

Let's see. Rumors of a haunted dorm, specifically this one have plagued this campus for awhile. We obtained keys to the attic, the site of the haunting, atleast the main site and took pictures and video of the area. The pictures turned up some interesting results. Orbs, and lots of them. I know that you must watch out for dust and reflections and all possible angles were considered and eliminated. The orbs in question however are very strange looking..very round with some parts of them 'cut off'. Either they have a flat top, or a flat bottom.
Upon futher investigation, we discovered our campus is built where a fort from the civil war once stood, which could be the cause of all the odd disturbances we hear/that occur, but we have no explanation for the orbs. We are going back later tonight to investigate.

Yes I do.

That picture is the best one. The large orb with a flat bottom and one on the side with a flat bottom as well. I have others that have several in them that are flat topped/bottomned and some that aren't round and look more deformed.

It's called: Light from the camera flash is reflecting off of the dust in the air.

Anyway, went back up and recorded several others with either a flat top or bottom, it's strange. Oh well. Not like orbs are going to stop all the odd occurences that happen to us.

I'm leaning toward dust as well.. Its hard to say. Orbs look soooo much like dust. I do know most researchers usually pay no attention to orbs for the most part.
I dont want to be negative though...
Here is a secrect.....
*Whispers* I have lots of "orb" pics I took... might be dust, might not... :D

as a paranormal investigator myself, i have to say looking at the pictures that i feel in my honest opinion that these 'orbs' are little more than lens light refraction. 'Orbs' are not usually just circular, with a flat top or bottom.they are usually irregular shaped with an aura of blue or orange around them. of course i may be wrong, not being able to have the photo infront of me to study, i could be totally off the mark, however dust particles must be taken into consideration, and i see that there are two 'orbs' that although they may look different to you, to my eye they are the same, a repitition of the first, just at different distances apart thus making them appear differently. i would suggest returning then to the area as you plan too take more photos or videos of this area, then bringing the stills here for us to look at once more, then an idea could be had as to what if anything these 'orbs' are.

Wow, close-minded much?
Ahem.
2. Debate the idea, don't attack the poster. Calling someone "neocon filth"/"Liberal traitor"/"Fluffy bunny"/"idiot"/"dumbass"/"moron"/"crackpot"/"conservative arsehole"/"big loser", actually, any name-calling whatsoever is not a refutation of an idea, it's a verbal (yah, yah...typed, written, etc) attack of another member of this community and it will not be tolerated.

I have found, on many investigations, that items made from old wood ............like wardrobes, ceiling beams and even very old chairs DO tend to have lots of orbs in the pics.
We studied this intently on one investigation...........and took many many photographs of a very old wardrobe. In each and every pic there were loads of orbs.
If old wood is nearby, we now tend to dismiss the orb pics. Its just something to do with the wood, imho
ETA: I am in no way dismissing any experiences you have had........and would agree you should continue your investigation

I notice that your picture appears to be in an attic. As attics are usually more disused portions of a house, it's quite possible that they are dust. The flat bottom and largeness of the orb also makes it suspect, in my opinion.
I and my other ghost-photographing friends consider mists much better evidence, unless we get strangely persistent orbs or something unusual in conjunction with the orb picture.

We went back and found several other strange things before the investigation was called off. Several extremely bright orbs when the pictures were taken, some orange, one yellow/green-ish type and several pictures taken by another friend were just plain screwed up and we cannot figure out why. I do not have access to the pictures right now or I would show you the stranger ones. Several of the ones we took turned out rather irregular looking. Nothing round, all rather mishapen.

Well keep taking pics!! i find it intresting that some of your friends pics were screwed up, could be a simple camera malfunction or maybe more. I would let the place be for a bit then hit it again if your able.
Any time you think some thing is boarder line you should probably give it another shot.
Just my thoughts... hope i didnt say any thing off key.

It does seem to look like dust. The "orb" is not like normal orbs. Some pictures from the Internet seem to point to self illumintion than a hollow ball as in the picture taken from Internet websites:
http://www.formarse.com.ar/paranormal/Orbs.jpg
Now this one looks more like dust/raindrop in flash:

But then, some things are hard to explain:

That top pic is very intresting for sure. I have a hard time with mists out side, due to moisture from breath and what not. Even on a warm day your breath will show up in the exhaust from a diesel engine. but I'm not discounting any thing. I wasnt there so i dont know the conditions and what not.
This stuff intrests me soooo much. i wish I could get out there do some research on my own more often.

Going up to check things out are going to be rare occurences since it's hard to get into the attic. It seems that whenever we go up, awhile after we don't hear any strange noises coming from upstairs at all hours of the night for a few days and then they pick up all over again.
We put a tape recorder up there once and got interesting noises, like someone falling down the stairs. Each time we've been up there we've never heard anything like that..we know where all the pipes are located and such and that problem never occured.
Some of the pictures we took were taken right when we heard strange noises and in area's people felt sick. Last night we didn't have enough time to get into the investigation because an incident occured in the dorms and we had call everything off.
There was something else I was going to say but I forget, lol.

Can you put the noises you heard into MP3 or .WAV format for us to listen to. Maybe next time take a digital camera and place it on a password part of youtube if you get anything intersting.

I have a pretty good program for breaking down recorded sound, filtering out white noise and so on. MP3s would be cool!!!

I do not have access to the tape recorder, and I do not have any programs that would enable me to put it into any format, let alone get any of it onto my computer, although I agree it would be nice to have so you guys can listen to it.

Go to Wal Mart and buy a cheap 128 MB MP3 player. The UK side of Wal Mart, ASDA, has them in for about £20. Format is .WAV and the other format is hard to get. So if you use a cheap MP3 player on .WAV, make sure it is on 32K .WAV. Plus them cheap ones also have sound activation, although you do not get to know when the recording starts if done that way.
Then you need is a 3.5mm phono to phono plug. This will connect your MP3 player to your PC if you need to change format. If not, then use your USB connection and upload it from there. www.nch.com.au has audio conversion programs which offer free trials. http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html is best as you can convert it from .WAV to MP3 and choose the bitrate as well from 32Kbs mono to 356Kbs stereo). So you do have free software to get it changed until the free period runs out.
So find a cheap MP3 player, get the free programs to record it and place it on Geocities in 32Kbs mono for download. Unless you ask the MW admin if you can get some space to download it off of here, and with that you should have something interesting for us to listen to.
