It struck me today that I have no idea who the indigenous (sp) people of the Carribbean (sp) and islands around there are!
I mean, I always assumed it was like rastas, etc, but they came over from Africa with the slaves, didn't they?
Was it like Native Americans like America (after all, it was near by)...or what?
Excuse the ignorence if the answer's really obvious, but we don't really look in depth at other countrys' histories in our lessons...Any help would be much appreciated :)

Here's what I found;

The Caribes were the native peoples of the lesser antilles

The Taino were the native peoples for the greater antilles
here's a website link to them http://www.members.dandy.net/~orocobix/faq2.html

I couldn't find much on the Caribes.

Weren't a lot of the native peoples killed off completely by the Spanish in the early years?
