In most books and legends, Scylla seems to be portrayed as evil, but a week ago, she contacted me. I was sitting on the schoolbus, trying to envision a shield, and then she started talking to me, which was great.
Anyway, she didn't come across as evil, or ugly, but more like a Goddess. I was just wondering, was she ever worshipped, was she a deity at any time? (this is very like the Medusa post in this forum, isn't it? But I didn't want to go off topic in the middle of that post).
Anyway, if anyone has any information on Scylla, I'd love if they could give it to me.

This Scylla question totally reminds me of the Medusa questions. In mythology, Scylla is a sea monster with six dogs' heads. In the Odyssey, Homer does state that Scylla was the daughter of a goddess. Supposedly, she was once a really beautiful woman who Zeus and Poseidon loved. Some sources say that the sorceress Circe got jealous and changed Scylla into a monster. Perhaps you had an image of Scylla before she was transformed into a monster.

Scylla was a nymph. When a young man fell in love with her he went to Circe for a love spell. Circe fell in love with *him* and in her jealousy poured poisons in Scylla's pool, turning her into a hideous monster.

Theoi said (http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Skylla.html)
SKYLLA was a sea monster or monstrous sea goddess who haunted the rocks of a narrow strait opposite the whirlpool daemon Kharybdis.
*
In classical art she was depicted as a fish-tailed sea-goddess, or mermaid, with a cluster of canine fore-parts surrounding her waist.
So she was a goddess?
I've posted into about Medusa, Circe and Calypso and their possible goddess roots, but I never considered Skylla (Scylla). I've never heard of Scylla being one.
Interesting...
I wonder though, how did the ancient Greeks discover/decided/etc who was a deity?
Too bad phoenixsong hasn't been on for a long time, I'd love to hear about her experiences.
