I was wondering if it would be wise to play games with Tarot? I was advised that they shouldn't be used for anything but divinatory meanings because they could open up something or cause something because of the energy that they possess.
Is this true?

Personally, I don't think so. It's really how you feel about it that matters. I see it as a way of gaining a closer connection with the cards. ....then again, I think it would also depend on the types of games you play too. If you feel uncomfortable doing it, then don't. I have multiple decks, so I would use one of the decks that I don't use on a regular basis for readings. ....and you can always cleanse your decks. ;) ....but that's just MHO, I could be wrong. ;)

that game looks complicated! but maybe I'll try it sometime. I don't think that it would be such a bad idea to play games with tarot cards. And you could always cleanse them afterwards, right? Yeah, that's what I think. But I see why you'd be hesitant to.

I have always had the belief that things are what you make them. To me the tarot is a tool and has no power other than the power I invest in it. I do think that belief is the core of our connection to the energies around us and that without belief the energies reactions are slower or not at all. I'm not sure if I'm explaning this all that well but basically if you belief the tarot has more power then you invest your own power in making that manifest. If, like me, you believe it has no power other than what you make of it then it will be a tool and nothing more.

Why not? People used to play card games with them! I've been toying with the idea of tarot poker with the Fool as a wildcard....
