Am I getting this right? A cross is most commonly used instead of a pentagram? Am I right that it's sort of a divine grounding exercise? What exactually does it banish? Help?

Hmmm after reviewing all that data, one can see how we all are different.
I myself prefer to use the Pentacle not the Pentagram (without the divine circle of protection) and also in the clockwise/couterclockwise movement. For protection/invoking I personally go in the clockwise movement/to banish (obviously) counterclockwise. Just like when one casts their circle about them placing personal crystals of protection around them etc etc.
A friend of mine has in her sig and it is sooooo true.........

Technology is amazing these days! I found a Video of someone doing this ritual on YouTube so posting the link here !

I hope this will help newer ones to understand the gist of things. This is by no means the "one way" to do this. There are many varations out there and people have differing preferances. Some paths have their own form of this that is used.

Both the cross and pentagram are used in these rituals that are linked. The cross is at the beginning and ending of the ritual. Some use this for creating sacred space or as a foundation of other rituals to be performed.
Commonly this is one of the few things that are taught when becoming an initiate of a coven until you move into the inner circle of that coven.
There are many different views on this ritual. Ask someone else you may get a different reply. I suggest that when you have the time to actually read through those links, to do so and You will see the differences and find some answers to your questions and be able to form your own opinion.

You know, I used to do the whole ritual thing and sometimes I'd use banishing pentagrams when I would take a cleansing bath, but I don't exactly remember what I did. I haven't used that sort of thing for a while now.
I'm interested to see other's posts on this. It seemed helpful when I did it though.

I personally have never used or even like LBRP. One thing it is CM which is very different than the magic I practice. In that I do not try to force or control enties or others.
Now I do know many use it and that is fine if they can truely understand what this ritual is about and in order to do that you must read up on CM and why it is used. Most do not have a clue there and many just use it because they were told that is what is done.

That video was a great help! I'm more of a visual person. It really seems like ritual magic and I can see how it would be part of a traditional coven. Thanks for helping me understand this on a basic level, at least.

LOL...
Isn't that the truth...I second this motion, and decided to bump it up to the top.
As for the banishing Pentagram...
All in all, I feel the symbolic gestures you use whether it be a "line, a cross & a curve", a banishing pentagram, ... let's see, how does that go, "ring the bell, close the book, put out the candle"...(something like that) I feel that it's important to stay in touch with your inner most feelings, and not let any doubt creep in, etc. especially when banishing or "giving leave" to...something, whatever that something is, be it the Guardians, The Old Ones, The WatchTowers, etc...
These days I really have mixed thoughts on the subject, so I should stop here.:spaceman:

I used to have a christian friend who was into kaballa, and he used the lbrp- I tried to change it slightly to fit in my theology. have only used it a few times. I dislike using any christain symbology myself, though I respect those that do. anyway, what I did was instead of calling archangels, I called out to the spirits of the elements, and in place of the Atah Malkuth ("for thine is the kingdom, ect." I said something like " I am a hidden child of the Great Earth Mother , the Queen of Life ,and her Consort, the Horned God of Death" while touching each "point" of my body- the head, hands, and feet- and then drawing a vertical circle in the air before me. well, that's what I changed from the original ritual.

Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram = completely unnecessary
a simple sigil would suffice

Far as I could tell, you're invoking angels to do stuff. I used to use this back when I was all, gung-ho hippy fluffy newager. I don't know... bad vibes, man.
Nothing that a good centering won't fix. Focus inside yourself, clear out yourself, clear out your area. One, two, three.
(Then again, it's been a long time since I needed to clean or protect an area... I have some loves who are quite adept at energy work. I prefer to leave that sort of thing to them. They make my house safe and comfortable - that's as much as I know :p )
