This thought popped into my head while I was daydreaming a momment ago in the kitchen waiting for my pasta water to boil. Is there such a thing as being -too grounded- ?

I've noticed I only daydream when I have one foot, or both feet off the ground. Whether or not that has anything to do with it or not, I don't know.

I tend to have a very hard time meditating/visualizing, but not in a busy mind kind of way... I feel heavy when I try to meditate and nothing else really happens. I can relax, but that about the extent of what I gain from meditation, so I feel like I'm only brushing the very surface. My sister on the other hand is amazingly natural at it.

Getting back on topic though.. do you think there is such a thing as going 'too grounded', and if so, what do you think are the effects it has?

If there is, I've never experienced it. I even carry around hematite for the purposes of staying ground. I'll be interested to see other comments on this.

I would say it's a question of balance. Obviously, everyone has elements of their personality that will be more prominent than others. But if you're nothing but grounded, you might be missing out on a lot - same as if you were nothing but airy, or nothing but fiery.

If keeping a foot on the ground helps you to daydream, go for it - at least you can daydream at all.

no I don't think there is such a thing as being too grounded. The truth is there's lots of young practicioners who usually think they are grounded but are not really.

If you want to balance your grounding, try conntecting to your Source, your higher self or creator... if you believe in having one. This upward connection will usually balance the grounding cords that you are sending downwards. It may help you meditate better.

an ability to easily meditation like other skills pretty much depends on whether your soul has lots of experience doing it in other lifetimes. The less experience you have doing this, the less apt you are at in this lifetime. Your sis may have more lifetimes doing meditation, but this doesn't mean she is more advanced than you. We all spend lifetimes doing the stuff we choose and for some of us this may be the first or one of the few lifetimes we choose to learn how to meditate. You probably have other skills which you well in. Try to identify them and use them to your advantage to learn as much as you can in this lifetime. All souls need to put in the necessary work and labour to evolve and gain knowledge no matter what stage of their journey they are on.

Yes there is such a thing, you need to be grounded when working on this plane, but your not going to get to another plane if you are to grounded

I was taught that by a number of peopleover the years

Did they teach you any ways to overcome the problem that you can share?

I believe that there is such a thing as being too grounded. It's happened to me quite a few times.
When it does happen,I go and take a nice long ritual bath and then I lay down on the bed and concentrate on centering myself and imagine the excess energies coming up through my body and out through the top of my head and send it out to the universe.
I know it doesn't sound like much, but it helps me.

I believe that there can be too much of anything so yes there is such a thing as being too grounded in my mind. A good way to help this is after connecting to the earth, visualize energy from the sky raining on you as well as being firmly rooted.

I believe there is a state of being too grounded as much as a state of not being grounded enough. It happens to me only when I have been meditating too much. I find that when I meditate on a daily bases for several months and introduce myself to the fast pace life of our society I find things are moving way too fast for me. But, after a few days of introducing myself to all the elements (fire, water, earth, air, spirit) I balance my chi.

I guess it's all just a question of Balance. :)

I've actually had problems with not enough grounding; it may actually be why I get nervous in high places, and I always want to get back down. It would be logical that if people aren't grounded enough, they can also get too grounded.

You say you feel "too heavy" when you try to meditate. Maybe to surround yourself with air and try lightening yourself, you should meditate outside on a moderately windy day. Or you could just leave a window open, if you like your privacy. When I was training for cross-country near the beach, the sound of the water and the wind blowing helped clear my mind quite a lot.

That is a most appealing idea. Thank you for sugesting it! I love feeling breezes on my skin when in ritual/meditation.

I think now I'm physically working my body and being more active (I joined a gym, infact I just got in from a Rev class then), I feel my energy isn't as stagnant anymore. It's feeling good. I'm going to work the body as well as the mind. Balance, right? It's what it's all about!

I'm way too lazy to exercise excessively. I've spent the last 9 years being a recluse chained to my computer. Three nights at the gym doing yoga/cardio/weights for an hour is enough for me. Plenty!!

It's a most unlady-like snorting/laughing prevention/scoffing noise that I'd really have to record to explain. ... and no, I wont record it! :P

/stops getting off topic.

So! Anyone else here experience too much, or not enough grounding? How'd you prevent it happening again? :D
