Ephedra, Whey, etc. - http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5944
As far as actual diet pills and herbals, the only one I would ever take is Hydroxycut. It's something I've been thinking about.

I'd have to say that they are not good for us. I have used many of them myself; xenadrine, ripped fuel, hydroxycut,etc.... But in my opinion just how bad they are depends on a persons health as they are using them and the doses.
They definately do help loose weight when used with exercise and good nutrition. Though if you are going to use them don't go over the recomended doses and I would suggest not taking them for more than two weeks without taking a few weeks off. They loose their effectiveness as the body learns to metabolise them so by cycling your body doesn't have as much oppurtunity to adapt.
Of course, if you take these substances and they make you arythmic, overly nervous, and any other number of problems you should consider discontinuing use.
I could give you more detailed reasons if you like but im trying not to wax into to much scientific detail. Hope this was of some use.

Well if people aren't going to use them properly, as far as I'm concerned, they are logically going to have problems with them. One thing they don't tell you tho is that no matter what you do some people are just not going to physically get along with some products - for instance my fiance simply can NOT use hydroxycut or creatine, period. Doesn't matter what he does, they mess with his body and make him sick and irritable.

I am an Herbalife distributor and I am also on the products. I have lost 25 lbs taking the weight loss products and I have seen very positive results for myself and for my family. Herbalife is more than just weight loss products, they have excellent supplements and many other products including a line of cosmetics and other beauty products. The company website is www.herbalife.com if you are interested in checking it out.

I have lost 42 pounds not using any diet pills or drugs or ephedra or anything like that. I just stopped eating sugar and refined starches. I do, however, supplement heavily with vitamins, minerals, flax oil, fish oil, and some herbs.

that's awesome demeter! personally, i've never used any dietary supplements of any kind either. lately i've noticed a lot of people taking things like TrimSpa and Stacker and the like. i don't understand it. neither of them are even aproved by the FDA (for those of you familiar with the other fda, quiet! :p ), which doesn't mean everything, but its still pretty bad. people must know that what they're taking isn't exactly good for them in the long run. its like herbal speed. are they all like this?

I think that if you want to get into tip top shape, you should follow Demeter's advice: eat healthy and exercise. I know that these herbal supplements promise you great results easily and quickly; however, they can be harmful. If somethings sounds too good to be true, it usually is. True, some of these herbal supplements and diet pills are just like legalized speed. In my opinion, exercise and good diet are the safest and best bets.

Incidentally Hydroxycut is meant to be used with a good diet and proper exercise. Even the ad (if you look closely) mentions the woman featured lost 24lbs in 8 weeks and that that's not typical (that's 3lbs/week, doctors recommend losing 1-3lbs/week to be safe). Unfortunately some try to use it without eating better or exercising, and yes they'll lose a pound a week or something, and in the first little while lose more then that, but soon as you go off it obviously you'll gain the weight back. It's meant to be used properly to help you shed pounds safely.
Also incidentally, there's a difference between a "diet pill" and a "dietary supplement". The latter is meant to supplement your diet with nutrients etc. you may have missed. The former is meant to help you shed weight. The former often contains good amounts of Ephedra (in the US) which causes heart problems, or laxatives.

I am actaully on Hydroxycut and I have been for awhile....I lost weight and then starting taking it to give my body an edge. Yes, agreeing w/everyone else, if used properly it does work! I don't think there is anything wrong with using something, but not to abuse it.
