Metal and tarot cards

I've searched the threads on tarot cards and storage, and read about how different methods of keeping your beloved cards safe and sound but there's one thing that's bugging me - my cards are in a small lined box inlaid with Celtic knot work that a pal made for me, but it's got small brass hinges and catches on it - another (different) friend (Yes - I've got more than one!!;) ) says that you should never keep your cards in a container that has metal on it. I can't think why not - keeps Fae folk away perhaps?

Has anyone else heard of this? I really like my tarot box, I've had it ages and it's really beaten up, but I keep anointing the wood with oils and it smells really good:D I don't want to change it if there's not a darn good reason.:wah2:

I had never heard that. Not that it means it isn't true. ;) However, my hubby bought me a Tarot box from a Wiccan store that has a brass pentacle inlaid on top and had brass hinges. I also have small metal charms sewn onto my Tarot bag.

I have heard that your altar should not be made of metal, but it is ok if there are metal nails or legs are made of metal. Maybe the tarot boxes are of the same principle.

How do your cards feel being in the bax? if they seem happy and positive, I would say go for it!

I typically keep my cards in the box they came with when I purchased them. **Shrugs** As long as they're all in one place, I'm happy.

In some folklore, iron can affect the fae & any magical workings. Perhaps that's where your friend got the idea from. As Chris said, if your cards seems happy there, that's what counts. I keep my in a knitted silk bag. I also keep a little packet of herbs in there to protect my cards too.

Mind you, I'm forever finding it undone, so I guess my house-friends like playing with it!

I think I have two house sprites - one that loves my altar (very aesthetically minded, loves rearranging it) and one in the kitchen - loves to re-arrange the spice cupboard. Friendly types!

yeah, the cards seem fine where they are - my friend's just a trump of doom I s'pose:D ,oh that was a really poor (and unintended) pun - **groan**. I just wondered where she got it from - must be the faery thing.

Mind you, I wouldn't mind a few house sprites of my own as long as they re arranged in a tidy/aesthetically pleasing manner. I've just got 4 cats (+ 1 guest mog) who enjoy re arranging things off the mantlepeice/bookshelf/insert any other place they're not meant to be, straight onto the floor;) Cats and sprites, now that would be a fun combination!:woah:
