Well, i've had long hair (past my butt) for the last 30 or so years. because of another persons nasty action it is now up to my neck. when i lost my hair i felt like i had lost my spirit, it has been nearly a year since this has happened and i still feel lost. my hair was a big part of me. In my eyes it made me unique, i have tried to be positive and embrace the new me but it is just not happening., can anyone offer any advice on how to get over this.

PS>if i lost my hair to a disease, i might feel different, i am not a shallow person, nor does appearance affect me ( i don't even wear makeup!)

i know how you feel...i had a beautiful head of long brown "shirley temple" curled hair, but i did loose all of mine to a medical condition, and when it finally grew back after 5 years of fighting it never came back the same. and no, i never got over it, i only covet it more...i can advise to try garnier nutrese (sp?) long and strong formula, it worked wonders for me, me hair grew fast and is still growing :) just still working on getting those curls back or something close to curls instead of waves

who did that to your hair? *hugs*

when i read your post i realize why i feel so terrible about my own life

when i was really little i was pampered and spoiled by my parents
then when I went to school I was harassed and mistreated every day
for so many years
it felt so bad and still does and I'm in post traumatic stress because of
haunted memories of a paradise (early childhood before school that once was)
(and before my father became an abusive alcoholic)

Dear, your hair will grow back soon, try to enjoy your new hairstyle and know that your hair will grow back soon enough *hugs*

Poor hunny... I know how you feel. In high school a girl (I'll never forget her!!) wrapped a huge wad of gum in my hair, round & round. It was long like yours..I was so proud. It had to be cut to my neck, too.
It grew back, but never that long again. After I got sick this past year I lost a lot of hair, and I am still trying to deal.
The Garnier Nutrisse shampoos I have also found to be great... Also Nexxus Therappe, and Joico's K-Pak. Those last two run on the expensive side, though.
Otherwise, I've tried to make myself feel/look better with pretty headbands and barrettes, and try to dress up my ears with cute earrings to take the eye away from my thin hair. I hate wearing hats cause I just feel so low and blue when I do.
Aww... it sucks!!
Oh, I am gonna try taking Vitamin E capsules. Someone had recommended that to me to help my hair and nails grow in again. It's worth a try!!!
No matter what, though, remember how beautiful you are. Hopefully with some time & TLC, you can get it back where you want it.
Take care, and Best Wishes.

If someone cut it against your will or caused you to lose your hair, I personally feel that is assault. You may want to seek legal counsel.

That aside, I can certainly relate. I had my hair go from below my waist to above my chin once, and that will never happen again as long as I can help it. ;) I love long hair on me, and I do feel it makes me unique. I love the way it feels and flows. I can see why you love it so much and miss it.

Don't worry though, it will grow back. :hahugh: You can think of this time as a fresh start. You have a chance to perhaps go to a more natural or alternative hair-care routine. You can decide what you want your hair to be as it grows out and go for it. :hugz: I am sure your hair looks really cute now too, but it is hard to appreciate it when missing the long hair that was lost. It will grow back! :hugz:

Why did someone do that to you? I know what its like to be personal about hair. My hair is a big part of my identity.

I'm sorry that someone would do that to you. Whoever did that to you has real issues. I have very long hair too and I have nightmares about it getting cut off. The good news is that it will grow back before you know it. :hugz:
And I'd like to thank everyone else in the thread for the suggestions. My long hair is getting thin and weak and maybe some of this will help so I don't have to cut it off...

I had waist length hair almost 2 years ago that I cut to above shoulder length for a job. It was all a big deal (had to move to another state for it), and when it didn't work out and I ended up moving back I was devastated. The worst part about it was the hair cut. I was traumatized by the whole ordeal, but with my hair so drastic I didn't even feel like the same person. I was woefully sick sick sick about it.

Cut to now: I'm happy. It DID grow back, and I even spent some time looking up how to take better care of it, vitamins, best sham/cond, and now it's even better than it was before. I found www.longhaircommunity.com and made some new friends and have enjoyed the camaraderie there and the helpful advice.

So all of that is to say I feel like myself again, and I bet you will too before long. Keep your chin up, indulge in some cute barrettes and updo's and stuff that wouldn't work when it was longer, try some different styles along the way to getting back to long that you wouldn't have tried if you'd stayed long, and you'll get thru this.

I too am very attached to my hair. Its to my butt and I actually had a nightmare a week ago that my hair was cut above my shoulders. But try to look at the bright side...you dont have to use as much shampoo, it now dries faster, it wont be caught in doors, it wont be in the way NEARLY as much, pets (if you have any, especially cats) wont get tangled in it, it takes a lot less care, and you dont have to worry about it really getting pulled or people constantly touching it (if thats an issue with you, I find it annoying) and its easier to style/dye. Those are all the things that I miss about short hair ~_~. Long hair is a pain! My mom wants me to grow my hair to my knees, but I dont think so. I been thinking of actually taking about 2 inches off.

I actually been thinking lately about what I would do if I had to cut my hair, and I been thinking about saying screw, and just go ahead and shave it all off :D, but I dont know if I could actually go through with it.

Kylalakitty, this girl (http://www.icompact.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8369) on anothe forum I'm on shaved her head and is tickled over it. Might give you some inspiration. :)

After the big chop last year, I'm not as hung up over my hair as I was. I'm more willing to cut it now and try different styles and I'm even thinking I don't want it back as long as it was. It's about bra band length and looks good. In a way, I'm happier with mine now than I was before the big chop.
