View Full Version : Where would you turn to next?

Tarot is a *great* form of divination - I'm falling madly in love with it. :D But most of the readings I do lay out the essence of the matter at hand - how should I pursue the matter if I'm after a form? I'm asking this here because I think that the tarot is very much based on bringing essences to the front. But if I really, really wanted to be pointed towards or told of signs of a form, where/which form of divination should I turn to? My deck has been telling me, "Geez, how many times do we have to tell you this? No matter how many times you ask, we'll give you these essence-based answers!"

For example, I have done quite a few tarot readings for myself, I see the essence of the situation quite clearly - I know there will be dramatic change, I will reach deeper within myself, I will be facing new challenges, I will have to be bold, etc. But I'd like to know *what* form all these qualities will take...what would be your advice?

I don't think any form of divination gives an absolute - "This is going to happen on this day" etc, because there are so many variables that different actions you, or somebody else takes can change the outcome. Yet I do believe that the Tarot, and other forms of divination will do the old 'come on, we're telling you something you need to listen to' bit - both my runes and cards have done that to me in the past. It's always been up to me how I deal with it though... free-will is alive and well and coursing through my veins!

The only times I can say I was shown something that then happened, exactly as I saw it, was in dreams. And that's not something you can do on command!

Personally, if I want the essence of the situation, the straight shooting answer to a query, I go to my runes. My cards seem more, well, EMOTIONAL about me. My runes tend to act like a big brother, and tell me when I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. The runes still don't tell me exactly what's going on, but the core of the situation is there.

You might like to try a pendulum for the yes-no answer type things... I haven't used one, but it might help. Anyone else got any ideas?

Yeah, that's precisely what I like about the tarot - nothing is absolute! But it's just the situation I've found myself in. I actually did get a very strong and clear answer to my question in a dream two or three nights back that left me shaking. The answer I was given was *not* what I had wanted and so I turned to my deck - got a blurry picture. I've done a lot of readings over this, asking different questions that relate to this issue - but, well, a lot of blurry pictures = blurry picture still! I only want insight into this not to change the course of events because in this particular case, no action on my part could affect the outcome (unless I attempt at spells, that is). All I want to do is to emotionally and psychologically prepare for this *thing* to occur - all I know is that it's gonna hit me hard, and I'm scared. Pendulum - I read that they only show the present (is this true?), and in my case I'm talking about at least 2 months in the future...

Anyway, any insight?

...whatever's happening in your life, and it sounds a profound thing that's on the horizon for you, keep strong, and look after yourself. I'll light a candle for you on my altar now to send you strength and the serenity to deal with it. Blessings to you!

And remember, anything any of us here can do for you, let us know.

I have only used these spreads a couple of times, they are supposed to help clear up a question.

-----------------------------------------------

1. the main problem

2. the best action to take to achieve the best results

------------------------------------------------
or

1. the main problem

2. present way of dealing with it

3. future results from this action

--------------------------------------------------

Anyway I think using tarot or runes only helps us tap into the knowledge we already have within ourselves, in our spirits. Maybe you need some outside advice on actions to take or a direction to go in?

Keep in mind, sometimes you aren't meant to know exactly how things will happen, and sometimes you aren't meant to know at all. There will be times when your tarot cards will simply refuse to give you any answer whatsoever.

Thanks, Nina! I really needed those hugs. :)

Topazz, yeah, I do have some vague idea...I know there is one man I can turn to who is a master in divination, but I just refuse to go to him because I'm quite against some of his ethics (not being clear to his clients that *change* is possible, withholding information so that they keep on returning to him, preaching Buddhist teachings as if they were universal, and, of course, he charges a very, very, very expensive fee, a minimum US$700). But I'll try that spread out anyway. Thanks, Topazz! ;)

Myst, that is a possibility that I may have overlooked. The signal that my readings always gave off was, it's gonna be a....SURPRISE! I like surprises when they're gifts...but when they mess with my life - nervouse breakdown! grrrrrr!

Hopefully, things will clear up for you, Nect. Perhaps you are on the right path by considering someone else to do a reading for you, since readings for yourself can turn out unclear at times. Oh my, that man whom you know charges sooooo much. If you want to resort on tarot, I am sure that there are other folks who can give you direction. hmmmm. Have you asked the lovely folks at Mystic Wicks for advice? I have to agree with Nina when she writes that "free will is alive and well." Sometimes you need to do what YOU think is best. Also, even though you are falling in love with tarot, perhaps you can give other forms of divination a try. Take care. :D

You're right, Mnemosyne, readings for yourself can be unclear at times. Yeah, other forms of divination are definitely worth looking at! I'm thinking of runes at the moment...I'll start learning about them once I get around it!

I agree with most everything said here. ;)

I would also advice that you don't turn to the Tarot (or any divination device) and soley make decisions based on readings. Somewhere along the line, I was advised not to ask the same question over and over again of the tarot. Once you have done the reading about the question at hand, draw a card. What ever number that card represents is how many days you should wait to ask the question again. This way the situation has time to evolve and you have time to consider the situation. Many times in divination, things are clear as mud. lol ;) You let the feelings of what you want to occur to color your readings, so getting any type of honest direct answer is next to impossible.

I would suggest meditating on cards that you seem unclear to you, and you could try to draw a card to place beside it to clarify the first card.

Runes are also great. I don't use my runes much as I'm so fond of my cards. :p

Pendulums, I don't know how far into the future they reach.

Other types of divination you might consider: scrying (crystal ball, magic mirror, fire, water, cloud, etc), meditation, dreaming (place a tarot card giving you hesitation or problems under your pillow to help clarify it's significance), I-Ching, etc.

There are many ways to get answers out there, you just have to be open to the signs and signals. :D

Good luck in your quest! :D

*scribbling own new idea in tarot journal* Dagda, I'd never even thought of drawing a card to give me an idea of when I should consult the cards about something again. Thanks for the idea! :D

Oh I can totally understand that Nect. It's happened to me a few times and it's *so* frustrating :)

Dagda, that card number and number days to check back is a great idea. My deck was being generous, for the first time, to clear things up a little for me, by giving me similar answers instead of asking me to f*ck off completely. But I have stopped reading for myself, knowing, like you said, my interpretation would be too biased at this point.

Dreams are what I'm working on right now - I had my first cat fight last night :sunny: ! Whoa, I wouldn't stop kicking the other woman down (at one point I managed to grab a yard stick - metal one...ouch! - and smack her continuously! )! I'm reading into the symbolism...I think I was fighting another aspect of myself, which refused to let go of the me now. And what was very interesting was how I remembered my *real life* tarot readings *in* the dream and started applying the interpretations of the cards *in* the dream!

Signs and signals are everywhere...I need to pull myself out of reading too deeply into things now - I feel like a confused IChing. All these little bits of philosophy that I tend to pick up from the most interesting places - a cracker crumb told me something (though of no importance right now) today :D .

Myst, the frustration is unbelievable! grrrrr! Oh well, what's not in my hands aren't in my hands - I feel like the guy in Four of Swords stuck in a Six of Swords meditation, if you know what I mean.

But I must still thank all of you SO much for all your advice! :)

Nect you just hit the nail on the head of what i was about to say! Maybe meditating on these cards or on a few others that you feel like exploring on a personal level will help you also :) I always find that around this time, the full moon, is an excellent time for self reflection and scrying.
Theres a thread round here by Rick on how to make a Scrying bowl which would be great to try with the full moon for future divination, ill bump it up for you.
