Not sure where to post this..
Me and my boyfriend are not going to marry yet of course.. lol! But we have talked about this and we both know we want to marry the pagan way in the future! :hahugh: So..I'm wondering..
Question to married pagan couples: how did you marry?
Do you know any good places for pagan weddings? Did you wear the common and usual wedding clothes like you do in churches or did you use more a "paganized" version of wearing some medieval dress, cloaks or something? Did you get some "pagan" rings too?
Is there any other pagan ways of marrying besides the Wiccan way (since me and my bf are not exactly Wiccan..)?
And if you have any great pics to share.. to show off with your pagan dress or anything, feel free to do so! :D
My boyfriend told met that pagan marriages are legal in Iceland. I think Iceland is an interesting choice.. but I don't really like cold places! I'd love to marry somewhere warm, some place that gives me the ancient and pagan-like feeling. Me and my bf both had a vision a few weeks ago of our future wedding. We were on top of some hill I think, it looked like we were near some mountain, there were trees and we stood near some pillars on something made of stone. It looked like Stone Henge a bit but I know it wasn't since it was kinda different... but the vision, the place just seemed so magickal! :)
I think the most magickal place to have a wedding is out there in the nature, not a church..! I'd love a flowery field or some hill/mountain side or something! And I'd love to wear something white, a white gown or satin cloak.
So yeah... tell me what ya think! I'm just so curious! xD
Blessed Be,

I'm not married, as i'm only 20 (that and i don't have a boyfriend  ), but i've heard good things about 'Handfasting & Wedding Rituals: Welcoming Hera's Blessing' by Raven Kaldera and Tannin Schwarzstein (http://www.amazon.com/Handfasting-Wedding-Rituals-Welcoming-Blessing/dp/0738704709).
He has some good stuff, and i've read a bit of this in the shops, and it seems cool, it's more than just Wiccan-style handfastings, they cover many different Pagan handfastings, from Heathen, to Hellenic, to Wiccan, to Kemetic (i think?), to general Pagan, even LGBT handfastings, polyamory handfastings, etc.
Check out his site too, it's gone some cool articles and a section on handfastings, 'cause he does perform them for people (unfortunely, i don't think he travels far).
His site is, http://www.cauldronfarm.com/ and the article on handfastings is here, http://www.cauldronfarm.com/rites.html.
Hope this helps :).

WarriorZhanna, there's a whole slug of threads here on handfastings & such. In fact, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the vows Pearls59 & I exchanged (definitely not Wiccan) might be around here somewhere...
Hey, Elise! A little help, here!

You can have a pagan wedding any way you want it to be. There are many sites you can find that offer advice if you just type "pagan wedding" or "handfasting" in a search engine. I'm guessing that as long as you are married by a person who has the license to do so than it should be recognized. I've never been married before, but I have been to a Wiccan wedding. The ceremony was performed on a hillltop by another Wiccan. A circle was formed and there was handfasting. They exchanged their own written vows and the union was asked to be blessed by the Goddess and the God. Other than the ceremony... the rest of the celebration was alot like any other wedding.

You can have any wedding be a pagan wedding...wear what you want--have it where you want. It's your day. It's all the ceremony itself...what gods/goddesses are called. You can cast a sacred circle, hallow a site--whatever it is that you want to do.
Yes, our ceremony is here on MW, as are tons of pics, as well.
Here is the thread that has our ceremony, as well as some of the first pics:

Our ceremony was predominately Heathen, as that is Rick's path--there were a couple of things I slipped in to represent my path- like the candles.
Here is a link to all the photos taken during that day:

Thank you very much... and it was done on a shoestring budget, too.

i'm ordained and here in maryland all the pagan ones i've seen or done were celtic handfastings, or variations of it.

I've officiated quite a number of discordian weddings here in N'Awlins myself.
I always start of with:
"Mawwaige.Mawwaige is a sacred institution. And if these two want to get get married to one another, they need to be institutionalized..."
Discordian weddings tend to be very joyous affairs, which ends with the presenting of the Golden Apple to the "Prettiest One"(which is the bride). And usually there is vast amounts of drinking and partying afterwards.
And sometime before.
The Best Man and my friends got me so drunk before my wedding to Mary, they had to wheel me in on a hand truck. That was o.k. because the bridesmaids had gotten Mary pretty blasted also. They litterally had to hold her up during the ceremony.

In Hillsboro, Ohio there is a Priestess Dreamwalker that does hand fastings in the woods. It is legal here. There are others too.

Kemetic? omg really? wow, I'd be very interested in a Kemetic kind of wedding or something. I'm a Kemetic Pagan. :boing:

My wife and I married at the foot of Warwick Castle in England. Her dress was Tudor/Edwardian inspired, and I had an Edwardian suit. I don't know what you mean by "pagan" rings, though.

You can get married any way you want, law permitting. Check "Handfasting and Wedding Rituals" by Raven Kaldera for a variety of ideas.

My wife and I had a Pagan handfasting. I recommend the Schwartzstein/Kaldera book, too - although some parts will make you snort milk out your nose.
We had our guests help us cast our circle and invoke the Elements and the Ancestors and Decendants, and Mystery (we're not Wiccan, either). We walked a labyrinth, had our hands fasted, and jumped a broom. We had traditional-ish dresses. What we held most dear was having the ceremony outside.
You can see a picture of our labyrinth (http://wedding.thesane.net/slides/IMG_82.html) and altar (including handfasting cord) (http://wedding.thesane.net/slides/IMG_64.html).
