Something i read recently, in a book was a brief mention of Islamic mythology, and it said something along the lines of 'Al-Shaitan doesn't crop up much in Islam, but is a major player in Islamic folklore' or something like that, and i was just wondering, if anyone knew of any sites (or books, but sites would be easier for me now) about Islamic folklore, especially ones featuring supernatural beings (Shaitan, djinn, etc).

While i'm not Muslim, i do really like learning about different mythologies, and folklores, and it sounds interesting (there's so many books on Jewish folklore and mythology that i want to get too), but any help you could give me would be great.

Thanks :).

Hmm.. You might want to look into Sufism, too (the mystical branch(es) of Islam).

I don't know much about Islamic folklore, but I do know about Iblis, the head shaitan... of sorts. Shaitan is both a noun and an adjective, either "the enemy" or "evil." They were known for whispering in humans' ears and trying to turn them from Allah.

Allah thought that Iblis showed potential, so he took him into his service and he worked with the angels, I believe. Iblis, who was a djinn of smokeless fire, was supposed to be submissive to Allah, and Allah said that he was equal to man. Iblis had a bit of an ego problem and thought that he was better than those silly men who were only made of clay, and Allah basically kicked him out. So Iblis ended up in the lake of fire for eternity. But Allah let him have all the humans that had gone astray.

Long story, short. And that's not really folklore, as it is from the Q'uran.

I just found this site, http://www.geocities.com/khola_mon/myth/Myth.html and this page on the same site is interesting, it's about Jinn/Djinn, http://www.geocities.com/khola_mon/myth/Mythic.html#Jinni.

There seems to be a few books on it, which i might like to get, but maybe i should look for Arabian mythology/folklore, or folklore and/or myths involving Djinn's (if anyone knows anything about those 2, feel free to post it :)).
