Is it normal to have people come on here and try to change everyone, voice their non constuructive opinions and to try to sell things? Or is it becoming more frequent as the board gets better known?

I guess it's hard for me to figure out why anyone would do this, and I just want to kow if I should get used to it happening all the time??? Being fairly new and all...

Thanks.:)

maybe you can be more specific in your complaint. People come here to ask questions and many of us try to help them by *gasp* voicing our opinions. it is generally taken that these are OUR opinions and are not to be taken to speak for any one religious path or anyone else on here. And I must admit that I am quite unsure of what you mean by people trying to sell things. please clarify.

Once, a long time ago, I ran a BBS. And I dealt with the same sort of stuff from time to time back then, too--this is before the 'Net became popular, keep in mind.

Two or three messages, even in a week, isn't so bad as long as the moderators have time to handle it. :) And they do. I wouldn't worry, dear.

There has been a few people. But I haven't noticed many.
The Message board I visited before always had people coming on doing that. Like trying to convert us.

Its so annoying!!!

Phoenix, some guy came along earlier this week trying to sell Mr. Alex Chiu's magnetic immortality rings. . .

S'okay, Shnen. I haven't been here very long either, but I'd say that this doesn't happen quite as often here as it does at other places. On the bright side, this place has fabulous moderators, and this place also has an Ignore feature. You click on a name you want to ignore, and you'll be able to keep from receiving PMs from the people you're ignoring, and you won't even have to see what they've written on the board. I wish other sites had this nifty little feature.

Another bonus to this place is that you can see who is online at the time and what forum they're browsing. You can avoid anyone you don't like here. :) Love this place.

Phoenix_Blue, I don't mean the ones who ask questions or voice constructive opinions... I mean the ones that are trying to be malicious.

Since joining MW I have found a home, and a great family, and it disturbs me that others who may not feel the same way cannot just leave us alone, why do they have to try and prove their point??? I just find it bothersome...
I'm not about to go around to sites that do not follow my path and leave malicious emails, posts, nor try to convert them to what I believe...

I hope I've clarified this for you...

you're not serious! how did I manage to miss that...... well then know, it doesn't happen very often at all.

It's not anyone who is a "regular" I mean the ones who register and post only once or twice... that's all...
to me it just seems pointless...
I guess that's the way it is! I don't belong to any other boards, so I have no idea what it's like out there..

**Smiles** So did I. And that sort of thing was such a problem where I was before I came here, that I left. It's very hard to get me to leave a place I consider home, but I did.

But one thing I do keep in mind, is this: Any forum on the web where we spend our time. . . is public, when it boils right down to it. There is nothing on the Web that is not public knowledge--it's just a question of how many people know. And that number is always higher than you think.

I know it's public.. but I guess it's because I would never do anything like that... I guess I expect the same respect back from other internet users... but that's obviously NEVER going to happen!
I just have to get used to it I guess... that's all!
(I also have a tendancy to get protective of things and people I like and care about...):o :)

Well I can think of about 3 this week, but other then that I don't remember a particularily malicious person causing problems for the past month or two, maybe more. There was one guy who came here posting to ask about something to do with uhm.. relations with goats.. I think.. but that's about it.. maybe one or two others who just really caused problems. But on the whole I find this forum to be pretty friendly and flame-free :)

I've been here almost a year now. Heh! I have no life! :D

Seriously, I've seen this happened a few times but over the course of the year here, counting this magnet guy, it's only been three or four, maybe. Perhaps I've forgotten about the others. They are usually dealt with prompty by the mods & admins here. In a few weeks, no one would even remember them.

I would think that as the board becomes more well known, and keeps growing, that we're going to get a few more people in here who are here to publicize their website/buisness/book/dogma. I mean..that just goes without saying. But if you look at the mere percentages...it doesn't add up to much. We have over a thousand wonderful members...and since i've been here, below ten really troublesome/bothersome people. So in the end, it's all worth it. I have been to other message boards, and to MANY chatrooms, and i must say, that this board has aLOT less of this stuff than most places i've visited. Especially the chatrooms.

I guess you get used to it and not take it seriously...

I'm glad we have such a great team of Mods! Yeah for Mods!!!!!

Not just the mods and admins, but the regular members are always lookin' out too. It's the members who keep MW hopping :)

Selling WHAT? Now that's entertainment!

Yes, I've seen the spats on other boards -- same one Phoenix Blue referred to, as a matter of fact. The problem seems more when the posters continue with meaningless arguements. The occasional off-the-wall post to me seems more humorous than threatening.

But yes -- let the buyer beware, here. This IS a public forum, this IS the dreaded Internet, and our RL identities are not known to all. There can easily be posers filling out false profiles.

Oh yeah. I love strong opinions and debate. I just hate it when people start beating a dead horse - at some point sometimes you have to agree to disagree.. :)
