i was over in a gun rights forum where there had been mention of a gay gun rights group, the "pink pistols" when a fundy popped up pounding on his bible as they do, i commented to the effect that if he were to begin denying gays their rights who was next, and not to try me as i was no "fluffy bunny". the next thing i see is a lady posting "do you want to start on witches next, walk carefully little man". i greeted her and another guy came back with a "blessed be y'all", three of us all in one little "gun rights" forum, we may be a minority but we do get around.

just visited back at that forum, ("2nd amendment p.d.") and they're still going at it. "evelyn" and "joe h." are taking no prisoners while the fundy is claiming to have god's beeper number as they all seem to do. it's a bad day for "nehemiah scudder".

(see robt. a. heinlein's "methuselah's children" and "if this goes on--" in "revolt in 2100")

The more I get to know about you, Gunner, the more I like you.

As it is, the concept of armed pagans sounds appropriate to me... :D

i've said this before cydira, i know of nothing in the reede that says pagans must stand helpless before evil. if we can keep peace with words that's the best way but there are those who think that force is the way to get the power they love and that sort must be resisted by every means, even, at the last force of arms. but yes, words first whenever possible.

:D I believe that force and violence should only be
used as an absolute only last resort.

If I can't settle the situation peacefully, then :smash:

A lot of Pagans are thought to be pacifists and, there are a few. However, if the cause dictates for the most part, I would defend my family hand, tooth and nail if the need came.

There will be NO threatening forces on this porch. I will not give up until you have to pry this lemonade from my cold, dead fingers. :uzi:

BTW, Gunner, where is this forum that you speak of.

Ya know, I've noticed this too, why is it, do ya suppose? After all, most of the old legends, myths, etc, that pagans hold in such regard are not exactly pacifistic!

Walk softly, speak quietly and carry a BIG STICK! (or whatever you desire)

Use the "stick" when they won't listen to reason, just don't use it for a bluff.

I believe that it was early Christianity that employed the the portion of the reede "An it harm non". At the time, Pagans feared for their beleifs - thus, the Book of Shadows and various other writings were inspired. That and the idea that we a Naturist's could inspire the though of being pacifists. A gov. survey indicated that a majority was - but, like I said, depending on the cause.

Most said they would not have fought in Vietnam but, would have done multiple tour in WWII given the Holacaust.

Depends who you talk to I think.

i'll admit i had that thought when i first came here, that's why i was a bit reluctant to "intrude", thinking i might make people uncomfortable. you-all have educated me since, thank you very much, and i'm quite happy with the company (and the lemonade). we all i think hate violence as we too often see it in society today but none of us would stand by and watch an innocent person harmed if we could prevent it. and regardless of personal feelings i doubt even the most committed pacifist would reject help, even armed help, if he/she were in mortal danger.

the forum was the "2nd amendment p.d." a yahoo membership group of cops and civilians in support of second amendment rights. but the fundy has given up the battle and peace has broken out.

Hmmmmmmmm.......I guess, but the thing is nature isn't particularly pacifistic either. It must depend on who one talks to--I was in Civil Air Patrol in high school, and several members of my squadron DID go to Vietman!

I agree with you 100% - nature is chaos. It is those who embrass this rudimentory fact that prevail here. We celebrate life - Birth to Death. Others seem to fear what we have enveloped. Darkness and light. The breath of the Mother Earth.

When there is fear, there is hysteria, and thus more chaos. I am willing to defend others from this if I have to and I am sure others would stick by my side. I spent seven years in the Army but not because I was a pacifist: because I was a patriot. Goddess, Family, country then self. That is my order. And you are all family.

If the cause is correct, I will defend it as well as I can. With words first then, if warrented, action. That would have to be a pretty extreme case though

Blessings,

Oh, yes, if you use the "stick," use it for keeps, that is the whole idea behind carrying it, or even picking it up!

It's wonderful to see that so many of us agree on this.

<does a happy little jig>

I couldn't help that. :D

Anyways, I'm also a bit clannish. You can blame it on my family. We're ones to fight tooth and nail for our own. <grins>
