Anyone been to Cancun in Mexico?

Hiya :)
Im off for a week holiday to sunny Cancun this Saturday for a friends wedding! Im so excited! I so need a holiday and cant wait to relax on a beach, soak up the sun's rays and have a blast with all my friends :)

I was just wondering if anyone else had been here and if anyone has any tips, places to go, photos, anything from Cancun that you can share with me to get me even more excited!

My dad and step mom have been there many times... hints:
- do not drink the water, this includes brushing your teeth and ice cubes in drinks.

- do not go out on your own. always be with a trusted guide, and never go where it's not for tourists, it can be VERY dangerous.

- have fun and be safe!:D

Cancun is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! But be careful of the sun, it can burn you without you even realizing it. Also I agree with the phrase do not drink the water!

On a personal note I would say be firm with the locals. I had a few bad experiences (being a blonde American woman) where I was not allowed to get off a bus until I would talk to the driver about my plans for the evening. And while walking back to my hotel after my friend ditched me I was offered money for sex by two different taxi cab drivers. :crazy: :eek: :meanface: I was also grabbed by a restaurant owner and pulled inside as he told me he had a table available for me and would not take no for an answer. Most of the store owners were very pushy as well. I tried to stick to the touristy areas and away from the "local" areas.

I'm sure this doesn't happen to everyone but just wanted to tell you to be on the look out. It's always good to travel in groups too. But it does have the most beautiful beaches and the best sunset I have ever seen (and I've traveled ALOT) so ENJOY!!!!!!!! :thumbsup:

I actually didn't like Cancun. I could have gone to Atlantic City or any other beach resort and found the same thing. Then again, I'm not a party animal by any means. I don't drink, smoke, carouse, or have any fun. :-) And the resort is basically a round the clock party, get drunk get laid atmosphere. If that's your thing, you'll love it!

My foundest memory of the trip was my visit to the Maya ruins at Citzanitcha (spelling is all wrong). It was a twenty minute plane ride from Cancun, and worth the entire trip. When I was there, one was allowed to climb the pyramids and other ruins around the site. The energies are quite powerful in the area, and I would recommend this excursion to anyone who is going to Cancun.

Thanks :boing: Its been great to hear all your stories and opinions :) Ill bear them all in mind and stick to not drinking any water but mineral and no ice in drinks (id already been told that) and being safe.

The Sunset sounds lovely! :sunny: I can hardly wait, I am such a sunset chaser and love to dream while his capitvating rays hit the ocean then beautifully fade away.

Im also blonde but going with my bf so he will protect me from any slimey locals ;) :smooch:

Im pregnant so I wont be drinking at all, but I love to dance and party so its sounds like a great fun place. the Mayan ruins sound fab too! Ive seen them on the cancun.com sight and would love to visit! We'll just have to see what time we have once over there.. I deffinatley want to go to the Isla Mejeures and go snorkelling, to the turtle farm and maybe (if they will let me being pregnant) swim with the dolphins :) I am so looking forward to it all :sunny:
