View Full Version : Stone Energies

I figure this is the best place for this topic.

Does anyone else find themselves really sensitive to stone energies? I was at a faire couple of weeks back picking over the stones and a friend of mine handed me a piece of turquoise. Now I've never liked the stone anyway....but when I closed my fingers around it, I put it down as fast as I could. *shakes head* The damn thing felt "dead" to me, was the only way I could think to describe it.

I have the opposite reaction with amber....love the stuff, absolutely adore it. I've got a chunk on a chain that I wear quit a bit and the thing alway ends up in my hands or my mouth. (*grins* Odd I know, I've got a bad habit of putting stuff in my mouth.)

Now it would stand to reason, since amber once was alive and turquoise wasn't....but I like hematite a lot as well.

Any stories about things like this?

Yup. I have a friend who can't touch (or sometimes even be near particularily charged) amethyst, as it's used for focusing for one thing. She told me just being a couple feet from my amethyst tipped wand made her energy go wonky, then I dared her to touch my big chunk of amethyst and she went "uh no!"

:)

I haven't had any reactions like that with any stone in particular, though my ex did. She couldn't handle raw hematite. . . still can't, as far as I know.

I'm fairly plain when it comes to stones or jewelry in general. . . **smiles** It's not so much a conscious choice as a subconscious one. Oddly enough, I have the same tendency to put things in my mouth. . . **laughs** odd, I know.

Only things that go in my mouth (besides food) are pen caps. :)

I don't own anything of hematite or marcasite or onyx. I can't say that I feel vibes from them, but I don't like them.

The only jewels I have are amethyst, turquoise, blue paua shell and pink paua shell, garnet, blue topaz, star sapphire, cherry amber, peridot, diamond, opal and several blue flash rainbow moonstones.

I don't like yellow or orange stones. (My amber is cherry colored.) Don't like much green either. Peridot only got into the mix because it was on an amethyst necklace.

However, as far as I can tell, my reasons are just for color preference.

yep, I love hematite, and marcasite. I made a bracelet out of some heart shaped hematite stones I found. And I have a marcasite stone I keep in my purse.

I also love aquamarine, hubby just bought me a new wedding ring, for our renewal that is a lovely pear shaped aquamarine. Of course I was the one that picked it out.

All these stones have a charge to me. Hard to explain.

Love gemstones...:D....it's the Taurus in me.

I'm also drawn to carnelian....love the color and feel of that one. Moonstone as well.

And I picked up two small balls of obsidian, I'm absolutely fascinated with them.

Thinking back as a child, I was all the time picking up rocks and stashing them places. *laughs*

Funny you should say that about Turquoise, Wanderer. I love gemstones too but never had any affinity for turquoise. It never felt right to me.

Amber is one of my favourite too. I carry a piece of it in my pocket all the time & fiddle with it. I'm surprised that I haven't lost it yet! I made a meditation bracelet with all my favourite gems & wear it all the time.

My rune stones are hematite ~ I feel I don't have to clean them so much. But I'm not really comfortable wearing any hematite.

The only stone that goes in my mouth is my citrine, we vibrate at the same frequency. Does anyone else sense the frequency of stones? And some crystals are "sharper" than others, must be the energy in them, eh?

I looooove stones--everything magical that I do involves them in some way or another. My house is "decorated" with mineral specimens, too--I was a rockhound before I was a witch, hehe.

My faves are amethyst, cirtine (which is amethyst with a slight different chemical exposure that alters the color as the crystal forms in the earth. See? I'm such a nerd...), hematite, and Emerald Calcite---Emerald calcite feels SOOOOOO wonderful and uplifting and bright and loving...ah!

I've touched rocks that I didn't have a good reaction with. I love fluorite, but I once picked up a slab of was was, minerologically speaking, a fantabulous specimen--but it was very old, and had been shipped around and abused, cracked, never cleaned, and soaked up some really crappy energy from people in its life. It felt very sad and used up.

I've only had a really nasty reaction to one thing: Kyanite. UGH! By all correspondance tables I've seen, Kyanite is supposed to be very male, very Yang, and have a very strong out-there aggressive energy. I felt that, and at the same time the second I touched it, it just felt WRONG for me. I put it down, and couldn't quit rubbing my hand on my jeans to get the feeling out. I ended up walking like half a mile around the place I found it at to get to a bathroom so I could wash my hands, and the feeling STILL never left me the whole day, until I hopped a barricade and washed my hands in the river (this was a nature park type place, that sold stones in the gift shop). Yukky stuff!

Does anyone here like / use / work with Kyanite? The kind I touched was blue, I believe there's Black Kyanite as well.

LOL! I sure do :) You know that joke about how to tell a witch from a new ager, where you throw them both in the river, and see which one floats? The new ager drowns from the weight of all the crystals and rocks...

I'd drown! :D

Actually, one of my very good friends finally asked me what the hell I had clicking around in my pockets one day, so I told her, and she asked why I carried them....it totally opened our reltionship up to discussing witchcraft! She had wanted to talk to me about it, and to understand what I do and stuff, but she never could bring herself to ask me before then.

See? Rocks rock :D

Maybe that's why I can never really chill without my hematite worry stone... I know they're grounding anyway, but I mean I can be hopping around throwing things and screaming, touch one and *poof* I'm all calm and cool. :)

*grins* I tend to forget to take things out of my pockets, so I don't carry around much in them. Wear most of my stuff.

Had some really nice Irish marble with an Irish penny in it that I carried around for a long time (Phoenix had one too *smiles*) but then I washed it one day and the penny is no where to be found. It's probably mixed up in a jar of regular pennies.

Lately I've taken to having a worrystone made out of bloodstone with me a lot. And it's really helped with my stress level.

But I wear everything else, amber pendants, a hematite bracelet that I don't take off, and rings of numerous stones.

*grins* So I only clack when I rub my hands together I guess!

Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross,
To see a fine lady upon a white horse;
With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,
She shall have music wherever she goes.

Nursey Rhymes and their origins

"Before the suffragists came along, women were sometimes compelled to obtain their ends by unusual means. Consider the case of Lady Godiva. Her husband Leofric, Earl of Mercia, imposed a heavy tax on his subjects. Distressed by their hardship, Godiva pleaded their case. Her husband listened politely for a few days, then with mounting annoyance, and finally offered a dare…."Ride naked through Coventry, and I'll do as you ask."
Confident that his wife would never commit such an act, Leofric returned to his ledgers. Undaunted, Godiva galloped through town on a handsome white horse, clad only in her coppery tresses, while all the folk in Coventry stayed indoors with the shutters locked, to spare her blushes. The earl conceded, and lifted the tax. And if she hears music wherever she goes, it's probably the townspeople singing her praises."

I don't have any hematite at the moment, but I remember one day, when I was feeling a little 'out of it', like my head was full of air :D and none of my grounding techniques were helping. Then I picked up a chunk of hematite in a shop, and I was back to earth immediately!

I keep meaning to buy some, but the nearest crystal shop only has really tiny pieces, and they don't feel 'right'.

I've got a thing about hematite myself. Love those ones. I get the best vibes off them, kinda comforting. Garnet and amethyst are the two runners up, but I tend to collect anything I can get my hands on (I am NOT a pack rat!). I'll give 'em to people after I've jumped the charges some. $$ luck for my dad, stuff like that.

What I've found odd is how people feel the energy in stones. I feel it as a heat - the hotter, the stronger. My friend Cyprian feels it as a pulse. It just tells us how much energy is stored in those stones, and what they can be used for. I've usually got a couple with me.

There's one hematite I carry around all the time. It's as if the stone was made to fit in my hand. My Granny (R.I.P.) also made me a necklace of Garnets once... love it!

I feel it more like...I dunno, you know when you shock yourself and you feel the electricity travel up your arm? I feel that with really strong stones. I also feel emotions from them (sort of? Dunno how to describe it. I guess I could say I feel what it does to me).

Hematite is the only one I feel actual HEAT from like you do. That one makes my whole uppper body buzz :)

this will sound pretty revolting, but haematite heats my hand up so much my palm sweats. The rose quartz doesn't heat up so much, but it starts feeling softer the longer I hold it. I have an amythyst that is almost like an arrowhead that doesn't like me holding it very much, but seems to be very much at home in the centre of a circle. I also have a tiger's eye that is very mysterious - literally, I feel as though it contains something I'm not ready to know yet. I'm quite in awe of it... does that sound completely nutty?

Most reactions i get from stones are ones i just find along streams and rivers. every once in awhile a friend will ask me to make a charm for them(Of course i make them for free) by carving runes in a stone, i can feel which rocks will be better used for what kind of effect, but i dont have the same kind of reaction with stones like torquise, quarts.athemist ect, anyone have an idea why?

Yes, I know. Some stones seem softer, or maybe less dense, than others. Amber "feels" very soft to me, while malachite "feels" hard.

I have a flint stone which was made into a pendant for me that seems to hold memories of past lives. Each person who holds it and connects with it gets a different memory. Does it store the memories of people who have touched it? Or does it release some memory of a past life for the person who holds it?

I always wear turquoise, oddly enough - it's my birthstone, and it's a family thing for me - all of us, my parents, my sister, myself, wear loads of it.

My fetish necklace that I wear has two crystals - one lapis, one Azurite-malachite, and two copper fox pendants.

I have another power necklace of amethyst, citrine, malachite, and amber beads with a turquoise Native American fox fetish that my late friend Lenore made.

I can't think of any stones that really repel me, although I go through phases where it just feels wrong to wear some things. My fave rings are ruby, garnet, moonstone and citrine, but I haven't worn them in a long time - now my fingers seem to be itching for them.

Yes. That's why, partially. Those stones that you see in stores also pick up all kinds of stuff from the other stones they're packed with, and they go through a lot of abuse in shipping to where you buy them. Not to mention, they're mined out of the ground, broken, tumbled, shaped, polished, carved (etc), so they just don't carry the same energy that say, a piece of turquoise would have if you found it in its natural environment.

The energy of the stone is still there, it's just that...well, the way I see it is that the stone is tired, used up. Every one I buy --even the mineral specimens that I get from rock shows that I only want to have to look at or put on my coffee table--I always cleanse them in salt the second I bring them home, to clear away everything that's happened to it, so the stone can be in just its own energy again.

**One of the neatest things about being a rockhound is mining your own rocks. I can't tell you how wonderful it was on my first expedition to dig in the red clay in the mountains of Arkansas, and find fresh, clean quartz crystals, right there in the earth. The whole mountain just SANG with the crystals' energy--they're everywhere up there! You can literally stand in one spot (in some areas) and see them just lying about on the ground. That was SO neat :D

Someone mentioned really big stones, or maybe it was a ton of rock :). I loved visiting the Heavener Stone in Oklahoma several years ago. I got the greatest vibes off that big old rock and the rock formation it had broken off from long long ago. I had brought along my bamboo drone pipe and the acoustics and vibrations when I played it there were tremendous.

Do you think that some of the reason for places like Stonehenge feeling so special and sacred have something to do with the stones themselves? I do.

Theres
March 29th, 2002, 02:18 PM
absolutely!
its like how mountains can create their own weather sytems. large stones have an impact on their surroundings too. and i do believe that is part of the 'aura' around places like Stonehenge. of course, there is more going on to, like history, karma, etc.
when we were looking for our stones a couple of years ago, we saw many suitable pieces. then we went to this place were the guy said "these just came in this morning. we weren't expecting them, and they're too big to manage. i don't know what to do with them, would you like to take a look?". are you kidding?!
we knew right away that this was what we were looking for!
two ten foot long columns of basalt, one about six tons and the other over 7.5. even lying in the mud at the quarry, they were beautiful.
but when we stood them up at our garden, they seemed even more powerful. they had a sense of identity that was unique.
and last year when we added the 3.5 ton granite lintel, the aura just swept the garden! you can't be near them without wanting to stand under the arch and touch the two uprights, eyes closed and soul transformed. man, i'm telling you, it is really moving! and greater than the sum of it's parts.
and if that kind of effect can be created on such a small level, i can imagine what the stones at Callinesh or Avebury must invoke, let alone Stonehenge!

Topazz
March 29th, 2002, 03:07 PM
Wow, what a garden you must have! A stone arch beats the heck out of a wicker arch any day, eh? I'm familiar with granite, but I'm not sure I've ever "felt" basalt.

Theres
March 29th, 2002, 03:52 PM
basalt is the material of the Earth's mantle. it is a dense, black stone which takes on a sandy-brown patina. it is usually found in four, five or six-sided columns. ours are from Moses Lake in Washington State. one is five-sided and the other is six-sided and 'rounder'. we think of this one as the Goddess and the other as the God. they have a very distinct feel, but you can also feel a definite difference between the two.
you should come feel them for yourself!

ooohhh... S1ren....I would love to have been there for that

So go! :D Where do you live? I just took a friday off and drove up to Mt. Ida, Arkansas ("crystal capitol of the world" as they say up there). It was about a 7 hour drive up there from central Texas, and I just got a hotel for the weekend. There are tons of mines up there--you usually have to call ahead and let them know you're coming--there's a fee for the day, and most places let you cart out what you can carry. The place I went, Richard Wagner's Crystal Mine, wasn't open for the actual MINE, but I got to sift through the "tailings" (big pile of leftovers left from industrial mining) and I foung lots of neat things. Even a 4" smoky quartz cluster :D It was only $7 for the whole day! Everything you need is right here: http://mtidachamber.com/ (the city's chamber of commerce.

Wagner himself was awesome :) He and I got into a big discussion about crystal energies, too. Most of the people there kinda had a bad attitude about rock/energy people, but Richard was one, too, and we had a great time.

Just watch out for the wildlife....what the town sign DOESNT say is that it's also the spider capitol of the world!!

Again ~ ha! I've never been to Oregon. :T

I don't think we mine anything like basalt around here. What we mine in Kansas is Gypsum. That's what they make gravel out of for driveways. And of course we mine salt. Lots of salt. But very little rock salt, most is mined by evaporation. And sand, we mine lots and lots of sandstone around here. Kansas used to be an inland ocean, did you know that? I understand that Boji stones have also been located here in Kansas.

One day, when my family and me were on a drive, we 'took a shortcut' and ended up right near the top of a mountain, away from any houses. We stopped the car to look at the view, and when I got out, I could feel energy kind of beating in the ground, really strong, and there were quartz crystals all over the place. It was a wonderful experience.

BTW, there's a huge rounded quartz crystal in the stone wall at the bottom of my garden. The wall's way older than the house, so the stone must have been there ages but I only noticed it fairly recently. Anyway, one day I went down to look for the crystal, thinking that I could put it somewhere else where it could be displayed properly. But I couldn't find it, though I'm certain I was looking in the right place. Then a few days later, when I wasn't specifically looking for it, I noticed it back.

No one could have taken it, I know that. It was as if it hid itself so that I wouldn't move it. Or maybe I've just got an overactive imagination.

Hey, this ended up being very long didn't it? Sorry if I rambled! :)

Stones from the UK.....they don't let you touch Stonehenge anymore :( But there's a place in the south called Avebury, that has a ring of standing stones. You can touch, lean, crawl all over them and then energy is amazing!

They do also have the two different kinds of stones used in Stonehenge at the front of the park....one is noticably warmer than the other, it was pretty crazy!

But then, that whole place (England) oozed with energy for me...it was an amazing experience. (made more so by the fact that I went before I even called myself a Pagan)

I believe that I got this from one of Silver RavenWolf's books - smoky quartz is recommended to protect your vehicle from breaking down. I always carried one in my old car and it seemed to work. The only major breakdown I ever had was the timing belt, which was 25,000 miles overdue for replacement and it quit 2 blocks from work. Other than that, it never even stalled out.

I got a new car last week and the only problem we've found so far is that the speedometer quits now and then. I decided that as long as it just does it once a day or so  I'll leave it be since it'll probably cost too much to get it fixed. Yesterday I took the smoky quartz out of the old car and placed it in the new one. Today I drove about 200 miles and it bounced a few times but never quit altogether as it's been doing. I think there's something to this!

I have studied crystal and stones for a long time. I have found that all stones have vibrations in them and you can feel them. Some are high, medium and low. Hold a stone in the plam of your receiving hand and feel it vibrate. Then you can know what its use might be. I keep my crystalson my alter and I always have my amythest touching my rose quartz. It enhances the quality and vibratios in the two crystals. Your home will be filled ith loving vibes.

Just thought you'd like to know that turquoise represents the 9 of coins, I am getting that this has/had some connection with a male (which means it belonged to a male, or you have or will have a male in your life to affect you this way) the shadow aspect of this stone is: Danger, fraud, castles in the air, insecurity. I rarely pick up a physical sense of energy from stones or crystals, I have a piece of Russian quartz and a piece of green calcite that I definitely do get a physical "buzz" from...I sense a distinct "tingle" when I handle them. Most of the time I just get a very strong intuitive attraction to a particular stone.
Some stones just feel "right" or "comfortable" when I hold them, and some just make me feel "comfortable" or "in balance" when I carry a piece with me.

I am a crystal fanatic. I just love them all. However I do find that I am drawn more to some than others. With me I keep, Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, Blue Lace Agates, and Clear Calcite. I had to limit what I carry because I was breaking the straps on my purse from the weight of so many. At a restarant one day my Mom asked me why my purse was so heavy. I told her I had rocks in it, then proceeded to bring them all out to show her. The lady at the table next to us just grinned and shook her head Like I was a real nut case.
