Time for a new rune to discuss!
Sowelu brightly ends our discussions on the rune of the 2nd aett.
Sowelu stands for the sun :sunny: and has the sign of a thunderbolt or a ray of the sun for energy powe, the ultimate power and means just that.
Like in the sun card in tarot this rune stands for all things positive, warm and strong under the suns rays!
It is a very positive rune for me and means ~ success, power, warmth, friendship, fertility, good health, wholeness, and strong positive development.
It can be used in magick and healing for just what it means ~ to increase power and strength! and is such a very good rune to use with healing and self moral boasting meditations.
I often draw this shape while on the phone doodling, just drawing it opens up the power to me and this rune always brightens me up :)
I also have a sunstone which I have inscribed it on and use for extra motivation whenever needed.

In addition, Sowilo counterbalances Isa (cosmic ice) since ice melts into water, which can then be used for growing things. Sowilo can also be used for education, understanding, partnership and journey. It can help give fuel to your magickal patterns and help your efforts come to fruition. In the Norse tradition, the sun is feminine rather than masculine. Sol was originally the female goddess of the sun and also called "the glory of the elves." She brought the warming, healing sunlight, giving life to all beings.
Power Animals: Cat, wolf, boar, horse, bear, groundhog, blue jay, camel, rooster, salamander, bee, cheetah, lizard, peacock, robin and snake.
Element: Fire
Astrology: The Sun
Tarot: The Sun
The sun was said to be the eye that Odhinn kept at the well of Mimir.
Sowilo is part of the misunderstood Swastika, which is two Sowilo runes crossing each other. I have a friend who is very knowledgeable on this, I'll get further information from her and post it later.
Thanks for posting a picture, SV!

This rune is also called sol and sunna meaning sun. In Sweden it is often known as solrunan, meaning the suns rune.
Stands for: summer, sun, happiness, joy, love, warmth. This is the suns rune, and like wynja it stands for happiness and joy but on a higher level. It also stands for energies flowing and love for others around you.
Wear this rune if you are feeling ill or depressed, it will bring the sun back into your life. :)
Blessings

Hehe, I see three different ways to spell Sowilo, Sowulo, Sowelo..
Sowilo corresponds to the Sabbat of Candlemas in the pagan wheel of the year (Freya Aswynn, Northern Mysteries and Magick) along with Perthro and Algiz. Sowulo represents the Sun gaining strength and the return of all life in nature, which manifests at Spring Equinox/Ostara to complete the year.

I've heard that it is also connected to the magician card in tarot because of the hand position the magician carries. And as Emy said flowing energy, used in utilizing energy (as in working magick), making most any magick you are working more powerful.

Sowulo represents The Source... the sun is the ultimate source of all life on Earth... Sowulo is a Rune of healing, particularly spiritual healing... this Rune is also refered to by it's German name, Sig, & is a Rune of victory (literally what that name means); when combined with the 17th Rune, Tyr, the bind Rune SigTyr becomes the most powerful formula for bringing victory. In a reading, it means the sun will be shining on you & in your life.

Info on Sowilo and the swastika:
The Swastika is an ancient Sanskrit symbol found on rings of devoted monks and priests from India and Tibet today. The symbol represents the life force, a powerful energy that is in each of us and is connected to the God or Goddess. Unfortunately, Hitler abused this beautiful symbol representing the life force. Another rune he abused was the lightening shape Sigil which appeared on the lapels of his elite secret service as a double "S."

Ive heard that somewhere before too about Hitler but chose to swtich off then because I didnt want to associate this beautiful rune with evil. Now I can see why he may of used it, thank you for helping me understand.
& what Rick said about its german meaning and being combinned with Tyr fits for this undertsanding too.

More info on Sowilo. This site depicts the rune as the swastika:
Sowilo - Sun. (S). The Sun, the most brightest of stars, destroying darkness with its holy light. Where Kenaz banished the darkness, Sowilo has the ability to destroy it. Sowilo is also one half the Fylfot, or Swastika. The Swastika is a solar symbol. Should you bind two Sowilo runes at 90 degrees to eachother, you form the Fylfot.
Just like the other two fire runes, Sowilo is able to create. However, it is a holy creation. It is the form of spiritual creation, enlightenment. A spiritual understanding. New ideas, like Kenaz, but holy in origin, unlike Kenaz. Fehu creates material things, and procreates; Kenaz creates mental ideas, and inspires; Sowilo creates spiritual concepts, and enlightens.
In Bright, Sowilo banishes the darkness, it helps us see the BIG picture, and helps us understand things; it makes them clear. Sowilo helps to give us the blessing of enlightenment, and spiritual understanding. It purifies us.
In Murk, Sowilo blinds someone, and tarnishes their souls. It is the blessings of the svaltalfs, the Dark Elves, and brings about spiritual decay.

At Imbolc or Candlemas, the appropriate runes are Perthro, Algiz and Sowilo. Perthro is the rune of the goddess Frigga as well as of the Norns. Frigga is the life-giving Mother who gives birth to Baldur, thus initiating the yearly cycle again. She is also the commander-in-chief of the Valkryries. Algiz is the rune sacred to the Valkryies. Sowilo represents the sun gaining in strength and the return of all life to Nature to be manifested at spring equinox and thus complete the wheel of the year. A ritual kindling of the fire is appropriate at this festival.

I'm writing in a page on each rune into my "notebook of stuffs" (not really a book of shadows ;) ), and I was wondering if anybody knows what the gemstone/colours associated are? Naturally, probably yellow or gold are the colours. . . stones? :)
