I am in search of any references to vocabulary used in the early history of New England.... the times of scullery maids and such.... 18th century....

Any help is appreciated!

I'm not sure what the name of the book was but it was ,vulgar,words & phrases from England & early America. It mostly told what the old sayings was & there meaning. The only part I remeber was "doxie" meant prostitute & "grog" is waterd down rum.

might i ask why? just out of curiosity... i do historical reenactments/trade fairs and sometimes (depending on what genre or fair it is) we do our best to speak the way they did. it can get very interesting very quickly... lol! 'course i portray an upper middle class lady so my speech would be a little different than what you're looking for... lol!
