****Given the ability to project yourself into the past but not return, would you do so? Where would you go and what would you try to accomplish if you knew you might change the course of history?

I may not like something that happened in the past. . . but who's to say rewriting it would make the present any better?

Not me. What happened happened for a reason.

Look at what Marty McFly almost did!

hmmm...tempting. Save ol' Abe Lincoln? Prevent or find out
the truth about the Kennedy assassination?(either of them)
Meet Queen Elizabeth? Sail with Sir Walter Raliegh? Shoot
the Grand Inquisitor at an early age? Kill Hitler at an early age?

History is truly fascinating, but probably not meant to be fixed. It
is the lesson we learn from so as not to repeat or make greater
mistakes. But it is fun to think about!:D

You bet. I'd do in Hitler before he got interested in politics.

As tempting as it is, I don't believe I would do it. Everything happens for a reason so, to go back in time and change history...where would we be today? (Although, where we are right now is a little scary!)

Besides, did you ever see the Simpson's episode where Homer travels back in time and squishes a fish? All hell broke loose! LOL

That or tell those artist college people that being a little less selective might just be a good idea. ;)

Killing Hitler wouldn't solve much. He was put into power by others. They'd have found someone else who might have been just as bad or worse.

I'd do something really devious. Go to 30 C.E. Israel and hang with Jesus and the diciples. I'd be the comic relief! :D

Hey if you're gonna mess with history, think big!

Seriously though, I wouldn't attempt to change history. I'd travel, study and write volumes and volumes. I would also use my knowledge of history to my advantage by placing my manuscripts where they would be safe and likely to be found in the mid-twentieth century.

If I could go and come back at will? I'd hire a some really good researchers and a camera and sound man.

Reality TV: Today we're here at the launch of the Hindenburgh, the famous radio reporter is to my right....

Today we're on the steps of the Roman Senate. We've learned that the man in red over there is the infamous Brutus. Julius Ceasar should be here any minute....

Ahh yes, the ship has arrived and a boat is approaching the shore. The man in the bright armour must be Columbus...

Now that would be awesome!

if the outcome of the change had been pre-determined and i thought this change would be for the better of everyone/everything, i'd seriously consider it.

I dont think I would change history. Granted, it would be nice to go and see some of it, but just observe. I wish I could change some personal life stuff..but that would be dumb. I wouldn't be me without some of it.

There is one point only in my life I would go back to,but who is to know I wouldn't make the same mistakes all over again?

If I could go back knowing what I know now- then yes. I would go back to that moment. If I go back not knowing what the future has to hold and have the exacte same mindset I had- then nooooo way.

I would love to observe history (seeing Jesus- good thought Earthcup, lol!) In that case I'd take a few charged batteries and a video camera so we could show the present what really happened. (I know we can't come back from the past, but I'd just seal the tapes up in a hefty zip lock bag and put them in with the Dead Sea Scrolls)

Me personally- I would love to go back and be Eygptian (higher class, of course, if not royalty) Although, the empire was forced to breed with their own brothers and sisters- so I just stick with the higher class;)

I thought BIG!!!

Hm, as far as visiting the past, some things might be nice to change, BUT, there's no way to foresee how changing the past would affect the present (all relative terms, I know it's mind boggling !!!!!). I'd rather not revisit my past personally, but it might be fun to go back and observe historical events, I wouldn't interfere with them, though, no matter how bad they were because it could change our present in ways that we can't predict. It's just too risky......

Ohhhhhhhhh all of these hypothetical questions..... I think I just did fall into my past :bug:  and those hours and hours of answering these questions and then having an instructor say ohhh by the way, I decided not to grade you on this!! Okay, so hypothetically I could throw myself into somewhere in the past, but not come back... would I do it and would I want to do something to change the course of the future?? Welll, my mind always wants to debate all of the variables of the situation and that kind of takes all of the fun out of the fantasy of it.... I wouldn't do it now cause I would miss all of the people I love and care about here and now and if I went back would that mean they would cease to exist? I suppose if I were alone, without any kids, I might choose to do it... would I want to make some significant change or influence the future, or witness some historical event? Nope, not at all, I would probably just go back to some time and place that speaks to my heart and live there as quietly and peacefully as possible.
