I love fairy tales, my favorite being Beauty and the Beast and other like tales.

Actually, some years back I did a program on the cultural backgrounds of fairy tales.

My theory is that, instead of being 'archetypal sagas' made up by people to serve as social role models, fairy tales and folklore are based on very real factors occurring within the civilizations from which they come.

I want to throw in one more. My awesome english professor, Kate Bernheimer is a writer/publisher working in fairy tales. She knows so much and is generally great for all things fairy tales--her books are inspired by them.

She also edits this journal called the Fairy Tale Review which deals with treatment of fairy tales in all forms of writing--well worth checking out. She's also launched Fairy Tale Press which will soon put out its first book.
