Don't think that I'm going to be able to go to Lake George this year for my vacation... :( I'm sad, and want to go somewhere for my vacation, but now I have no idea where to go... Any ideas?

Kaylara..are you from New Jersey? Dont want to do Atlantic City?

What about Ghettysburgh, PA, or Phillie, they can't be too far from you in New Jersey. Other than that..I haven't a clue. What kinda stuff do you enjoy? History, Amusement Parks, Nature???

aha. And...you're not going to want to go site seeing? Are they going to have the time to take you?

Just a suggestion, because I've been researching Ireland, and vacations to it, for a while..

If you can't rent a car ...my suggestion would be to go with a guided tour. If you stay with family there, you are kind of at their mercy :) And you might not get to see all the things you want to see. A little more expensive, yes. A little more for your money? Probably :)

if you can't get to ireland with dellit may i suggest vermont, we're only a couple of hundred miles from new jersey and vermont is very pleasant in the summer with many reasonably priced bed and breakfasts scattered around. (we don't have the room to put you up or i'd certainly offer to) and all sorts of things to do, places to go and see, and just about everything in the state within a couple hours drive.

Hold on.

Why is Lake George out?

I'm in CA now, but I grew up in Glens Falls. (About 10 miles south of Lake George.) Even spent a summer working Ft. William Henery.

And if you can't stay in Lake George, what about Warrensburg? Diamond Point? The greater Queensbury area? (The town of Queensbury borders the town of Lake George, which contains the villiage of Lake George, which is on the south end of the lake.) Any of these is within close driving distance, and several of them are much cheaper to stay at. (Lake George is very much a tourist trap. Things cost about triple there of what they cost just outside the villiage.)

Seriously, if you want to go to Lake George or the Lake George area, talk to me! This is my home turf. Heck, my entire family is back there -- one section even technically lives in the town of Lake George!

Why not come up to Canada? We have great parks, food, camping, and a few small villages somewhere;)

and best of all, your $ is worth 1.5 times here! If Lake George is a camping thing, you might want to look into Algonquin Park, or soemwhere in Muskoka... (both in Ontario)...

If you want more info let me know... that's where I'm goin this summer! :D

The reason why it's probably out is because of tradition. We spend the week camping on the Lake. If I can't take the week off that we have reserved on the Lake, and I can't pay for the boat, then we can't go...

Thanks,
Kaylara

You can come up here! I live 30 miles NORTH of NYC. "Historic Hudson Valley" is what they call it. We got a pretty Inn at Bear Mt. and LOTS of state & county parks to hike in (state parks you can camp in as well).

Or what about Virginia? Not only is there VA Beach, which EVERYONE goes to, but there's lots of other places to camp & hang out. There's tons of places down by Colonial Williamsburg. Norfolk as well. I know there's a Pagan campground, but I can't remember the name of it right now.

We usually go to VA when all else fails, because I have family there & it's a cheap, fun vacation.

So skip the boat & camp somewhere else! :)

What kind of "camping"? Are you talking RV? Tent? Or were you actually living on the boat? (Not sure if we're talking canoe or house-boat here... and given the lake, either is possible.)

There's an RV campground on the Schroon river outside Warrensburg where my grandmother always used to "camp" in the summers. I could find out about that for you.

There are also a number of State parks & such in that part of the state... I can get more info on THAT for you, too, if you'd like.

It's just such a beautiful place, I hate seeing someone who obviously wants to go saying "can't". There's always a way if it's what you really want.

My (new) husband & I are hoping to go back this October. It'll be his first time there, his first time meeting my family, and my first time introducing him to "my" mountains. I'm really looking forward to the trip.

Vacations *sighs* I used to go on vacations.
I was going to take a train trip from the Midwest to Seattle before Amtrak goes belly-up. Now I can't go anywhere for awhile. A couple of weeks ago I took my posse to the vet, & found out that Miss Cleo has diabetes. She gets an insulin shot each morning, & I'm not sure I can get anyone to come over each morning to do that. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to depend on anyone else giving my cat her injection. She's looking better, though...not quite so mangy.
