View Full Version : Dreaming of the Gods....

I had this dream the other night involving encounters with several gods and I thought I would share....I'm not sure yet what I make of it, but it was interesting.

What I remember of it was initially seeing a silhouette of a house near a hill and a night sky. Countryish, not super-rural, but well enough outside of a small city that it was very dark. And then periodically through the dream I would feel like I was falling through a silent black void, sometimes I would see some stars like a night sky (Much like the scene at the very beginning of the game Myst, if anyone remembers that....) and then I would stop falling, as if I had been standing on solid ground all the time. The space I was in was still completely black with no light source but I was able to see normally. Each time I stopped falling, I found myself in the presence of a god. I only remember two for sure, but I know it happened more than that. The first that I remember specifically was Dionysus. It was like a chance passing of an aquaintence in a hallway. "Oh, it's you. Hello," he said, smiled slightly and walked on. He had very long, purple-black hair.

The other that I remember was Hekate. I did not see Her, but felt her presence, first slithering around me like a snake and then settled into a permeating pressure, like somethgin pressing into my skin from all sides, but it was oddly not overwhelming or intrusive. There was a sense of someone walking around me in circles, slowly...almost as if inspecting me, and eventually I had a feeling of approval, as if I had passed inspection or...whatever it was.

I know that there were other meetings with other gods, all of which I am familiar through their mythology but none that I particularly worship closely- I don't think any others were particularly notable enough that I remember them or maybe I just lost a lot of the dream between sleeping and waking. In between each "meeting", I fell through the black void again.

At the end of the dream I was on a residential city street, still at night. All the house porch lights were off except for mine (This neighborhood in my dream was not mine, and OI have never lived in a neighborhood resembling this, but it is a familiar scene to many I'm sure. Residntial city, semi-detatched two-story brick homes with porches and small front yards). One of my bothers was sitting on a sofa on the porch, waiting for someone else, I didn't speak to him, but opened the front window of the house and crawled in and went to sleep.

I have had dreams where Hekate has come to me offering solice and counsul whenever I needed it. The first dream of her I had she came and it was a calling to her service. I woke up feeling enlightened. She appeared to me shortly after my Mother passed (while I was having a minor heart attack) on my birthday the day Mom was being cremated. She came to me and told me "its not your time" and touched me the pains stopped and I was able to continue carrying her casket.

I had a dream a couple of months ago in which the names of two Gods showed up. Hadith and Babalon. In the dream, I was explaining to someone, I forget who, why Babalon was so important to me. Come to think of it, that dream ended up being about a pivotal moment in the end of my last relationship. Huh.

Also, I once had a dream about the Stele of Revealing crumbling into sand in my hands to reveal a small, older Stele of Revealing beneath.

I dream about gods occasionally. It happened just recently, like last night or the night before, possibly the night before that. It was within a week. I can't remember what (if anything) happened, but I felt happy when I woke up.

A few days ago I had one about Set. That's about the 5th time I've he has come to me in my dreams. He is the God I have the strongest connection to. The last one went something like this:
I'm in a [new age] store and I see a picture of him [or a statue] and I say how much I love him. Although the first time I had a dream of him I couldn't see him. I was standing in the dark and I felt his presence. Even though I don't feel a connection to Horus, for some reason he also showed up.

I dreamt of Odin and Freya once briefly though I haven't heard from them since so I don't know why. I don't know what they're up to - every once in awhile I get a strong urge to work with them, but when I try to it's like they're not around anymore. *shrugs*

I've had several dreams of the gods. My first dream involved the goddess Isis, then I've seen Zeus, Ra, Thor and that's all I think.
I'm mostly connected to Isis, I've noticed. She usually appears when I need protection, guidance or explanation for something in dreams. Sometimes, she appears in her human-form, but with white wings and some golden staff/sceptre with an Ankh on the top. Really beautiful. Another form she appeared in was a snake. That's all of the forms I've seen so far. I call myself a daughter of Isis since she calls me her child.
It's quite an amazing feeling to have dreams of the gods. I always feel inspried and happy when I wake up. :)

Many gods have been coming into my dreams over these last 2/3 months. I've had dreams of Hermes, Hekate, Aphrodite and Zeus. Many of them (more than I can fully remember, I would wake up with a snippet and know there was something more to it). Makes me wonder about what it means! Are they trying to tell me something?

One that's really got me scratching my head was one that I had 2 weeks ago. Now I've been researching and learning more about various Hellenic gods, but at the time of the dream I took a break. So it wasn't like I was just reading these things and my mind was just dealing with the bits of info from that day.

The first part of the dream had Aphrodite, it's rather fuzzy though.

The next part was about Zeus--it seemed very very real. I was before a small crowd of people in a grassy field (the people might have had wreath things on their head), I had a glass in my hand (with wine I think); I raised it and I proclaimed my path to be Hellenismos and my god to be Zeus (I said: "My path is Hellenismos. My God is Zeus!")-- and I was happy about it (the people also cheered). Then I woke up suddenly and I kid you all not, there was a loud and very real clap of thunder (it just started a storm). Nothing ever came to me like that before with these gods and you all know Hellenismos was never a path I followed in the past...and Zeus (to be honest) not really a god I was warm and fuzzy about. After I woke up and heard the thunder I maked it in my mind and went back to sleep where I had another dream of Hermes. Has anyone ever had experiences with Zeus? Does this sound like something he'd do? Any insight about this would be appreciated!

In another dream I was standing at the mouth of a cave (I thought later it might have been to Hades or perhaps Hekate's cave-- not sure really, might have been a random cave) and I was sort of clinging onto Hermes, it was as if he was flying us (with his winged boots, I guess; hence the clinging onto him--either that or I'd fall) and I said: "You are my protector, you are my guide; with you I am safe." But unlike the Zeus dream, I wasn't proclaming him to be my god, which makes me think the Zeus dream was sort of different. They seemed very different than my other normal dreams...

I've read that the gods can communicate in dreams and well that seemed like that sort of dream. Right? There were others too with Hermes mostly. And three or four with Hekate and Aphrodite (that I could really tell). I'm really not sure what to do about it all... If it was just one dream I might not think much of it, but it's been many over the about two months or more...so that dream about Zeus seemed like another clue to things, perhaps...? I'm pretty confused. The dreams felt different too, not like the random pointless ones. They had a purpose it seems. I'm not about to proclaim my path to be Hellenismos right now, but I have been reading and doing more research about the path--after the dream. Just last week I've read many of the essays on Sannion's Sanctuary (http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGkwPxpwpH2CgBo2RXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTExZWpwZHBqBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMgRjb2xvA3NrMQR2dGlkAwRsA1dTMQ--/SIG=11ofcua8n/EXP=1191967089/**http%3a//www.winterscapes.com/sannion/) and many other sites. For whatever reason, I'm more receptive to it than I was before.

I sort of assumed as much.
I'd just like to know if it sounds like them, especially Zeus. I've found info about him (I'm slightly annoyed his Theoi section (http://www.theoi.com/Olympios/Zeus.html) isn't finished, it'd be helpful if it was), but I haven't seen anyone that honors him or has him as a patron ('ve looked on other forums and places). Sometimes the personal gnosis stuff can help clear things up, if say it matches your own. I just don't know how to start "seeing what they have to say" hence the reading about Hellenismos (ritual, edicate, etc)--don't want to piss them off or do anything seriously no-no. I guess a lot of meditating would help and just being receptive. I wonder if I should ask at Ta Hiera (http://www.tahiera.org/) too? I know some members here, go there as well.

Agaliha, do you do divination? Or can you have someone do it for you? Especially some system that Hellenic based might be an idea. Sometimes a few simple answers can clarify how you should proceed.

I have Tarot cards, but to be honest I suck.
Good idea though, divination would probably shed some light on things. I'll look into that, perhaps request a reading. Thanks, Raven :)

Ta Hiera's a good place.

Meditating on the deities in question is a good start, as is small rituals of libation. (Personally, I actually do a lot of incense burning myself, but you mentioned in another thread that you can't burn incense due to health.)

Barley, wine, honey and water are all very common traditional offerings to the Hellenic gods.

I wouldn't be worried about pissing them off if they seem to be trying to get your attention and you're trying to listen and at least find out what they want. From what I can see, your approach is respectful, and that tends to go a very long way with any pantheon. I do believe that it's very possible to offend/annoy/piss off the gods (any of them!) but I also believe that if your intent is respectful, and you're making a reasonable attempt at learning the basics

Oh...I can't remember where it was now, but you had asked a few weeks ago about offering milk to Hermes...I did ask my roommate about that and she says that she's never heard of anyone doing that, but if you've had a particularly strong impression that you should offer it to him, then go ahead and offer some.

Sometimes impressions for some random offerings might come up- for example for several weeks before my grove's last high day ritual, I got the very strong impression that I should offer skittles to Iris. (I know, sounds silly and cheesy.) But for weeks, the thought didn't go away and then the day before I walk into Rite Aid and lo! Skittles were on sale for ridiculously cheap. Ended up making an offering of some of every kind of skittles that was available (Original, tropical, sour, berry mix and smoothie. It truly was quite a rainbow.) Got the impression that she was very happy. One of my grovemates sprinkled them around while I read a hymn that I wrote in her honor.

But anyway...good luck. You know where to come if you need more help!

Sounds good!
I was reading on Sponde about librations and offerings, too.

Oh yes, that thread :2G: :wtf:
I wonder what the milk thing was about then. When I thought about it I just figured milk was linked to shepherds which he's associated with...I'll have to see about that later.
