Do you want to save the world? Hemp! Buy hemp! I know that Americans are not able to as Canadians are, but you can certainly write! Or voice your opinions! Everybody, we need to make a stand! I am asking everyone here to try to inform yourselves, or at least one other person (if you are already aware of the wonders of hemp) about the benefits of hemp. Just one person. then write back to me here. A good book for people who don't know is "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" by Jack Herer. Please do this for Mother Earth. Please do it for yourselves!
Support hemp.
In Love and Hope, Sarah

I think hemp is cool, and would buy more if I could, but. . . I really don't think it's gonna save the world. ^^;

just playing the devil's advocate, here. . . ok say we planted hemp to use instead of trees. . . do we know the effects of hemp growth on the environment? does it strip the soil of it's nutrients? does it kill off native species? could there be some sort of toxic result that we're unaware of, simply because we've never used it on a large scale?

lol of course, we could burn our hemp garbage and have a much more peaceful planet. . . ;)

That's the thing, did you know that we have used it on a large scale? I didn't until recently. In USA alone, the census of 1850 reported that there were 8,327 hemp plantations, not including the tens of thousands of smaller farms growing, or the 100's of thousands of family hemp gardens. It has been used on a lrage scale.
When grown in a field previously used and stripped of its top soil nutrients it replenishes the nutrients lost from cultivation. The root system travels further down into the ground to bring up nutrients not reached by other crops, and before harvest the leaves fall to the ground returning and completing the cycle of nutrients.
There is a very low THC level in Hemp, and you cannot get high from it :p
Textiles, fabrics, fibers, pulp paper, rope, twine, art canvases, bio mass energy, paints, varnishes, medicine, building materials, food oils, protien, housing.....the list goes on and on.....

Hemp actually does drain the soil and forces out native species.

All crops leech the soil of certain nutrients, and when grown in huge amounts will use up all of those nutrients. I don't know about hemp, but I do know growing any plant in huge amounts will cause problems. Usually farmers rotate crops to help prevent that, but if you plan to grow such huge crops of hemp to "save the world", it's going to be an issue.

I don't think it'll save the world, and I do think it bears some further research (preferably not from biased sources :)).

Myst, what have you learned about hemp? Why do you think that gtowing hemp is not worth it? Just curious. I would like to learn why people would not want to support hemp wholeheartedly?
it is good not to be biased but after reading The Emperor Wears No Clothes its hard!:eek: :D ;)

Kalara, what about the effects of trying to wipe it out of its ecosystem over the last 70 years?

I do not mean those remarks in a negative way. I am sincerely inquisitive. I do want to know what we all know about hemp, and where we aquired this knowledge. So please, everyone share there own info!

About growing hemp on a farm, I think it would be great if a wheat farmer, or pea farmer grew hemp every other year. I say this because if they did this, the hemp would bring up nutrients otherwise lost to the plants b/c of how deep their roots go. At harvest time the leaves fall off, returning many nutrients back to the top soil to be composted over the winter. In spring the soil is full of new rich food dor the corn or whatever, then again after the feild has been harvested, have another crop of hemp. What's wrong with that?Let me know what you think!
