I can't vote here, there's no "none of the above" option.

Why should I be afraid of either group?

Who's world would you rather be stuck in? So therefore who would you be more afraid of?

Phoenix Blue
March 29th, 2002, 12:58 PM
I'm not "stuck" in either's "world." And if I were--I'm not sure how I would be--I would have the choice of leaving it.

So again I ask, why would I have to be afraid of either one? Why should I be afraid of either one?

*grins* If I had to....and had a choice....I'd be stuck in a mafia world....

Always wanted to be a gun moll. ;)

**Laughs** Figures. . . ;) given the choice, so would I--because while the mob doesn't abide by the law, there is order and structure behind it.

well look at it this way, the mob generally won't kill you unless it's for "business" reasons. the gangs will kill you just for being in "their turf", because you're in the line of fire while they're trying to kill someone else or just for the hell of it. in general living in a world run by the mob would be more survivable though it might not be a happy world either.

Not if you're in the right gang and on the right turf.

And they know what turf is who's.

Keep in mind, you can be in a gang and not be a criminal. Choosing to be a criminal isn't a requirement for being in a gang.

The mafia tends to be fickle as far as "business problems", and also kills for loyalty problems, and even if they think someone is lying or spreading info. Also you don't know who's in the mafia. People in a gang make it well known (ie. jackets).

Given the choice I'd be in the gang.

Where I live, in Tennessee there more to being afraid of the political and religious Right than any gang or mafia group.

If I lived in Newark or inner city Chicago, I'd probably feel differently.

The groups that threaten you are directly related to where you live. There's not much gang trouble in Nashville. You just have to confront what it is that threatens you, I guess.

I don't particularly choose to live my life in fear - I try to live through each issue as I have to, and hope it makes me stronger.

Odds are in your favor in the mob. You live longer.
Gang life expectancy is very low, early 20's. Gangs are much more
violent, and happen so frequently that it hardly makes news as
much as it used to. Mafia violence is rare enough that it always
makes news,(if public death involved) and rarely the old whatever
happened to Jake?

Like the man said, "If I come to your door, odds are you did
something to bring me there."

Gang.. They do what they want, when they want, whereas the mafia is "organized crime" so they won't come after me unless I dun something bad to them or one of their buddies. :T

I'd rather be in the mafia world because gangs are. . . random violence. Guys posturing. To a larger extent than anything the mafia does. And Ithink that, like everyon'es been saying, the mafia mostly leaves you alone unless you do something to them. They have a sense of order, and honor, and loyalty. It's crime, but it's not quite as random.

Meanwhile here there's been one gang related crime, and we're currently in the middle of two gangs fighting for supremacy lol

Mind you as far as I know there's no mafia in this area at all. *ponders*

I'd be more afraid of the Mafia. They're organized. Gangs aren't.

Being Italian, I would probably get shot by my family if I didn't say Gang. :D

Mafia.

The way it is portrayed (which may or may not be accurate), they are organised, expierenced, and almost always have members with a common goal.

Gangs, again, how they are portrayed, are just high school cliques with guns and sometimes "questionable" morals.

IMO.

I dont know about being afraid of anyone....unless it might be gangs as they shoot randomly and idiotically in my opinion...Mob is more organized, not so careless, and smart enough to invest in business to support themselves, both legal and illegal. On the whole I am much more impressed with the mob and would rather be part of that.

No gang's please. Enough of those around here for me to not like them. Too much violence and machismo.

I had an uncle in the mafia, he's dead now.

Personally I'd rather be in the Bella Mafia myself....

Awesome movie...:D

Well this poll was a no brainer for me....GANGS.....I used to live where one of the baddest EC gangs hung out. The Latin Kings.....now, they will tell you they are a "social group". Yeah, tell that to my buddy who got shot pal....

I'm not afraid of the Mafia, went to high school with a Mobster's daughter. Don't know, and don't want to know, anything about his business....but one thing was for sure....i was never afraid to walk by their house. With the Kings, doesn't matter, walk where you're not supposed to be and you take your life in your hands.

The town I live i now has some Kings, and Bloods & Crips...and I live 30 miles NORTH of NYC....how NUTS is that!

I don't know personally, I dont know what to tell you if you don't understand the relevance of this thread. Think of it as someone saying, are you more afraid of a spider or a scorpion I guess. It wasn't meant to actually be a high importance thing, just something to get people thinking about something odd.

All that jazz:) hehe

Yeah, a friend of mine used to visit a woman when she was little during WW2 who always had plenty of candy and never seemed to worry about rationing. She couldn't have kids so she spoiled my friend and used to show her pictures of the people she used to work for. One of them was Capone!

Wasn't till she was older she realized the woman and her husband were in the mafia. The woman was a prostitute/moll back in the heyday of the 30's.

When my friend graduated a man walked up to her and gave her a card with a number on it and told her to call if she ever needed anything. She threw the card away later but now she kinda wishes she'd kept it just to worry her husband with!:D

Yeah I think they'd be more likely to plan a sneaky way to kill me and dispose of my body, whereas if a gang got me they'd probably just have shot me in public *shrugs*

I'd be more afraid of a gang. I think they'd be more quick to use violence just to gain social status.

Mafia but it actually depends on the situation. If I had to live in a world with them (which everybody does) I would rather it be the mofia. Gangs you can just leave their turf (if possible) and stay away.

Mafia now is another story. If you screw over the mafia or if they think you did your dead no matter where you are. You couldn't even run to another country to get away from them. They have the brains, guns, equipment, and money to back whatever they need and if they don't have it they will find a way to get it. They also go after your friends and family if they can't find you. So, definately the mafia.

Plus, you can take a gang out. The mafia usually has hundreds involved and all over the world. There usually is no running.

And, in response, their is just as much mofia if not more than gang now a days. They just got better at secrecy. You know.

The problem is getting out of either is near to impossible. Once you're in, you're in to the seventh son of the seventh son...

Gangs, of course.

One of the Hispanic men I used to work with was terribly worried about his son getting caught up in gang life. Some gangs require 'initiates' to commit crimes to prove they're 'worthy' to join the gang, then keep on committing crimes (or doing worse crimes) to prove their loyalty & support the gang & it's heirarchy.

My sister is dating a guy who says he used to be in the local mob but isn't anymore. He says that the mafia doesn't kill for 'the hell of it' the way he claims gangs do. He thinks that the mob is a business, that gangs are posturing, immature 'wannabes'.

They both have no morales, values, nor do they value the human life. I would be scared of both equally.

I would loose in either situation being a female, so I didn't vote.
