She lived a long life and got to see many generations. She was a lovely woman and will be missed.

I was afraid of this after Princess Margaret died. Now Elizabeth is pretty much alone. Everyone who knew her as a girl are gone. :(

Oh I really should watch the news more. :( That is really sad.

:eyebrow: Wow, first I've heard about it, I'm surprised the church bells aren't ringing and no-one's dressed in black.
Well, I suppose she lived a long and fruitful life. She, to me, symbolised the last of the monarchy...although we still have the current queen, Prince Charles and all that, there's so much controversy, it's more of a soap opera than a monarchy.
Goddess keep her soul, and let her rest in peace.

Of course here news is already showing stories of her visits to our home, her family, etc.

yeah, she was a 'classy broad'. an enormous amount of history passed through her lifetime. when she was born, Victoria was still queen! that seems more incredible the more i think about it.
as for Liz being alone now, well, that's sad. but it happens to the lowly peons too. at least she has her billions to ease the pain slightly.
(hmmm... i wonder if the aristocracy can simply pay someone to mourn for them?).
in the words of old Ben Franklin, "even the richest kings on the proudest thrones are obliged to sit on their own arse".

It probably is here to. I know my mom was crying when I talked to her earlier..

I feel so bad for Elizabeth and Charles, I know they were both very close to the Queen Mum...

:( Ohhhhhhh May she go swiftly, softly and peacefully to the rest of her journey. She did represent a seemingly lost era, lived a full long life, and my thoughts go out to her daughter Queen Elizabeth and the rest of her family and her country.

Listening to MSNBC's report of the Queen Mothers death, I heard them say that during WWII, Adolph Hitler called her "The most dangerous woman in western society", because of all of the wonderful things that she contributed to the Brittish War Effort.

In addition to that, she was also one of the only members of the Royal family, according to many biographies of Princess Diana, who befriended the beloved princess, and was kind to her.

She seemed like a True Monarch, in carriage. One of the last of her line. And a kindly soul.

Goddess Bless her Soul. :)

Fairly healthy to 101 is a pretty good life. Having watched my own mother deal with the loss ofher mother last month, I feel really bad for Elizabeth II. Losing your mother and your sister in a matter of months has to be traumatizing regardless of who you are. My prayers are with her.

Poor English people. :( I really knew nothing about her except for the fact that she was really old. But I think at 101 most people are ready to go. Everyone seems to be dying lately. That Mr. TV guy, the dude in Arthur (ironically I rented that a day before his death) and now her.
This is slightly unrelated but can someone tell me why England still has a monarchy? Since they have no power. If it were me I wouldn't pay taxes so some people could live extravagantly off of my money. Is it sentimental attachment or what?

Uhm they do have power.

Even if mostly only symbolic. The Queen is even the "head of state" of Canada (ie. the Queen of Canada)

with her passing another another page in history has been turned, the future for the Royal family will in the next few months will be tested to the utmost. If you have never searved a King or Queen it must seem like a load of bull**** but to us who have, it is a opening of the door of realality, where we would have not thought twice to take up arms to defend the monachy, with the queen Mum gone, I think the we would all have to think twice.

the Queen Mother is dead, long live the Queen.

I had no idea that she was also head of state of Canada, either. This type of government has always fascinated me.

My condolences to all for your loss.

as she was affectionately known here in the UK, was a great lady. Thrust into the spotlight, on onto the throne, with her husband, King George VI (Bertie), after the abdication of Edward VIII, she took her duties to her heart. She will be sadly missed.

By the way, I am not a monarchist, but there are certain members of the Royal Family, and she was one of them, that I had immense respect for her. Please, even those of you who don't understand why we in the UK still have a monarchy, say a prayer for a family that has had more than it's fair share of troubles.

Prayers too, for our Queen, Elizabeth II, who will celebrate her Golden Jubilee this year, without her beloved mother at her side.

Chibi-Fallon - you're right, this isn't the place for a discussion on the wrongs and rights of a monarchy - but the British Royal Family is part of our history and culture. I, for one, want to see reform, but not abolition of the Royals.

My older brother lives in England & called to tell me, so I turned on CNN right away.
The Queen Mother has seen so much & suffered so much. She had a relatively quiet life ripped away from her when her husband took the throne he never wanted, she helped steer her country & its' people through WWII, she was widowed early, her youngest child died, she saw the Royal Family scarred by all sorts of scandal, & through it all, she was a class act.
During one of my first trips to England, the Queen Mother made an appearance at some sort of miltary event. She dropped something & stooped down to pick it up. The next day, newspapers all over Britain were full of recriminations against all those soldiers who stood around & let the 'nation's grandmother' pick it up herself.
May she rest well.
Note to Chibi: the British royal family is very wealthy in its' own right. The Queen Mother, for instance, has a cattle farm in the north of Scotland (I saw her cattle at The Royal Highland Show agricultural festival).

You can pay tribute to Her Majesty at:

We lost a lot of good souls last week and the Queen Mum topped them all. What an inspiration she was for us all. I'm even going to miss her hats. :)

May her soul be at peace and may loving light be with her family.

From Garnet,
"The next day, newspapers all over Britain were full of recriminations against all those soldiers who stood around & let the 'nation's grandmother' pick it up herself".

You would not believe how much trouble one of those soldiers would have been in if he had dared to move one muscle of his body in the presence of Royalty! honest!!

I saw a nice sentiment on another site earlier, " The Queen Mum has decided to see what Easter is like on the other side" :)

I saw a great quote about the Queen Mum:

Something about, if England's people were to revolt, they would only leave the Queen Mum alone and maybe ask her to join in! She the only one of the monarchy that the people truly loved and they would never wish any kind of harm on her.

This was said by some guy who was apparantly very outspoken about his distain for the English monarchy--however, he liked the Queen Mother. What a soul she was! :)
