I just picked up on old 1972 Parker Bros. Ouija Board from GoodWill (I couldn't resist it for only $6) and i'm kind of scared to use it.
Anyone here have any experience using these? Is it a bad idea to use them alone?

I never had any luck with them alone. Now as for using it with others is a whole different story. I don't know weither or not how real it was or if I just thought it was freaky. But that is just my opinion.

I saw two of my friends get possessed while I was " playing" one. One friend was just observing, and didn't believe they worked. Well, not even ten minutes into it, he became possessed by something.:jawdrop: :jawdrop: :smoke: :smoke: And it wasn't a pretty sight. His whole face changed, he had an awful, creepy laugh, and was threatening to do away with me. I instictively had to do a minor exorcism on him, and hey, guess what it worked!! I ordered him out of that house, never to return. The whole thing was somewhat frightening. I was fooling around with things I knew nothing about. Still wanna "play" with one?? Please just be careful , for your own sake...Have a blast......:collapse: _twohorns_ :seehearsp :ghostie: :bumpsmili Take care...feurerhexe (fire witch)....

I played with a ouija board as a teen several times. I think it was all crap.

The thing to remember is.. intent. If you think about it as a game.. or just something kind of neat.. it's going to be just that. If you take it seriously, prepare yourself and your space it can be the oracle it should be. I don't have much luck with them by myself, but I don't really need it.. if I'm receptive enough to use it myself, I'm receptive enough to hear/see them without it.. I've used them numerous times.. I have one of the original parker brothers ones.. (the boards are about twice as heavy), I've used the newer one.. I once used the glow in the dark one (it's hard to take seriously when it glows in the dark.. that's what candles are for), and I have two wooden ones that I've used.. so far the best are the wooden ones.. but the "game" one works.. hell, you could make one on paper and it will work if your mind is ready..
This has been mentioned many times on here, so that's it for now..

First time I ever used a ouiji board, I actually was able to contact a spirit on my first try *woot* Exept I panicked and tomorarily lost connection.
IF you're just new to it, try to have someone experienced with you to help you out. Also, meditate on a few crystals, pieces of Heetite, Tiger's Eye, just for protection. Not all spirits that can be contacted through them are nice ones.
And I agree with Kaiga. Many of the new ones that have the Glow in teh Dark stuff are hard to take seriously but do work. I prefer the wooden ones, though. When you use the board, if you want to as a game, go ahead, but if you actually want to contact spirits, be careful, take it seriously, and, most of all, relax.

:hahugh: These things freak me out... just because of some of the experiences I've had. But in a good way.
I have one that was given to me by my great-grandma. Haven't used it in years, actually, but I always had success with it.

Ugh, yes they do work, and I don't know that I'd dare touch one again...
I should just print this story out into a word doc. so that when I need it, I can just copy and paste it instead of having to retype it all out again! But until then, I'll share my story with you now.
It was boxing day, I was 14 and my cousin and I were bored out of our trees. My house was full of family members, we were doing the family dinner that year. So my cousin and I were sitting around my room, listening to music and I came up with a wonderfully exciting idea! I'd make a ouija board! So I used a piece of construction paper and wrote all the numbers and letters, yes, no and maybe. I popped the glass out of a magnifying glass, turned an upside down empty box into a makeshift table, lit a candle and turned out the lights. We started asking for a sign if there was anyone there, we were giggling and if the glass moved at all, we accused each other of just trying to be scary! So after about ten mins or so of this kind of behaviour, the glass jutted out from beneath of fingers and landed on YES. We were shocked speechless and just stared at each other. So we started asking more questions, both terrified and intriuged. We found out that our hosts name was Sam, and he had died. He said no when we asked if he'd been murdered. After only a few mins of interaction we were called for dessert. We left everything where it was and left the room together. My family is seriously RC, so to be sure no one found our evil contraption, one of us stood guard at the end of the hall while the other went to get the plates or return them. No one went into my room. After we'd finished we went back into my room eager to continue our conversation, only to find my room empty. The candle had been blown out and put on my high boy dresser, and I had to open the closet to find the paper and the box. The box was turned so it could be filled, and the paper was in a roll (tho nothing was holding it so) and inside the box. Until the day we moved from that house, I never found the magnifying glass.
Looking back now, I should have realized that was a sign not to use the damn thing again.
Almost four years later it was another family dinner, tho not a religious celebration this time. And my family had gathered at my aunts house. Everyone was there, we had family from other provinces there. I had brought my best friend with me, we'll call her Valerie. And my cousin was there, the one who'd tried the board the first time, and we'll call her Trin. So we're bored out of our minds, again but we have about 12 little cousins playing everywhere so we're trying to figure out what to do. Guess what plan we came up with? You get a gold star. We kicked all my little cousins out of the rec room and I made the board again, and we lit a candle, but we couldn't find a magnifying glass so I spun the lens off a video camera to use instead. We sat down and tried to be serious, tho again, we giggled and accused each other of moving the lens. I could feel it change when it started moving on its own. Something whose name started with an X and had about 14 letters to it, about 3 of them vowels so it was completely impossible to speak came to us. In between words that made no sense, he told us he was murdered, then added words like "die" and "pain" randomly which really made no sense to us. We got annoyed with the gibberish and decided to quit. So we put all the stuff away and opened the door of the room and invited my little cousins back in. There was about 8 people sitting on a couch against the wall at the far side of the room. The speakers were propped in the corners of the walls and the TV and stereo on one side of the room and a big chair on the other. There were two computer work stations in the room, my aunt is a software designer and programmer, so one was by the door and one was more in the room, and I was sitting in the chair for the one closest to everyone.
We'd been in the room for about 5 minutes and we were all just chatting and laughing. Suddenly the TV turned on, full volume. I was yelling at everyone to turn it off, I thought someone on the couch had sat on the remote so everyone was digging in the couch trying to find it. I was standing, I had jumped up when the TV turned on, and I was searching the room and found the remote on the computer station by the door. So I ran over, grabbed the remote and turned the TV off. We all just kind of stared at each other, and about three seconds after the room became silent, the speakers that were propped in the corners, came FLYING off the walls, barely missing my cousins heads. As I watched this in disbelief, movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention and I turned my head and watched the computer monitor rolling off the front of the desk. I lunged and caught it just before it hit the ground. Some of my cousins were crying, a couple were yelling and Val and Trin and I just gaped, mouths wide open, in shock and disbelief but mostly in fear for what could happen next. I started telling the little ones to get out of that room, go play in the other room, started telling them it was ok.. and such like that. We all got out of the room and as I closed the door, I told everyone to STAY OUT. I told them under no circumstances should they go back into that room. Kids are so durable... they all nodded and agreed, then turned around to play again. Val, Trin and I were not so durable. We went into my aunts bedroom right across the hall from the rec room. We sat on her bed staring at each other and said nothing. The room was silent like that for about two minutes, before the radio turned on. It was LOUD. There was no music, just the sound of monks chanting. We listened to them chant for about 20 seconds, before the chanting was disrupted by the sound of shattering glass. After that Whitney Houston started singing "I Will Always Love You", but only those words, over and over again, like a record was skipping. I don't know why, but her repeating those words creeped us out worse than the chanting, so Val got up and turned the radio off, and checked out the alarm settings, which weren't on, then told us what station it was set to. A very popular top 40 station in Vancouver. We started asking questions like, whats happening, what the hell is going on, and Whitney Started singing again. Val was still standing by the clock so she reached down and did something, I don't know what because the blinds covering the window above the bed, literally jumped off their brackets and landed on my cousin, tangling her in their slats. I nearly fell off the bed when I saw the blinds moving, so I was making my way toward her to get the blinds off of her, and Whitney started singing again. I was beyond terrified and pissed off and I started to yell at Val to turn it off, but my breath left me as if I'd been punched in the chest when I looked from the blinds to her. She was whiter than any living person ought to be and she looked so scared, like she was about to pass out. In her hand was the electrical cord for the radio/alarm clock... it was unplugged. My body, mind and spirit fought hard for control and I somehow got Trin untangled, while she cried and I grabbed both of them and we left the room.
Knowing what I know now.... oh man. They are NOT toys and should only be used by people who are strong enough and perceptive enough to use them.

Funny... only thing that ever happened to me was when I was young and inadvertently channeled someone, scared the hell out of my friend.
No one got hurt though...
I really should give it another go.
But I've always been the unconventional one.

Yes. Absolutely yes. Why? Because I have used both a Ouija Board, as well as Automatic Writing, when I first was taught around the age of 8.
I remember my first experience with a Ouija Board, was after I had learned Automatic Writing form my great grandmother, who passed on her gifts to my grandmother, to my mother, and to me and my sisters. My aunts as well. None of the male family members were included, or ever had an interest, or even a sign of "The Sight", as my Grandmother used to call it. The Gift from the Family of Divination, be it Tarot, Palmistry, Psychometry (this I learned in '85, that I had a natural gift for it as well, when I didn't even know what it was, until I tried it. At first nothing. Then, images appeared in my mind so vividly, it was amazing. After I wrote every single detail down, to two different people I did it for, one gave me a ring, the other a pendant, both had worn them for years, and were BOTH skeptical, and then astonished at the accuracy of the visions of the people, houses, children, etc...that I saw).
I've since learned that Psychometry, and Astrology are my strongest gifts. I took to astrology like a fish to water. I started taking classes on it from a single teacher, who was certified by the AFA, with her Teachers Certificate, a feat that is not lightly brushed off at all.
Even just the Amateur/Student Certificate, the first one is EXTREMELY difficult.
Keish (Keishin, the FG, in the Astrology forum) for example is a certified astrologer, with her title at the end of her name, AMAFA (Amateur Member of the American Federation of Astrologers). Generally, most professional astrologers choose this one, as it gives you better credentials to actually charge clients, and to show that they are indeed, certified professionals.
I myself am not certified, but it is not due to lack of skill, but rather lack of money and time. Plus, you have to go in person, to take the test, which is done only twice a year.
I've been practicing astrology... professionally now for approx., 15 years now.
I'm sorry, I've digressed again. I have a TERRIBLE habit of doing that.
But since it still runs along the same lines of divinatory paranormal subject matter, I'm sure the guides here should keep it, as long as I quit babbling, and get back on track! LOL (too much coffee)
Anyway, I'll write about my AW stories another time, right now, the subject is the Ouija. (w-e-e-j-ah, or w-e-e-jee).
Even though it is considered to be a rather mind boggling parlour game, back from centuries ago, I can ASSURE you, through first hand experience, TWICE, that it DOES in fact work. As does AW (Automatic Writing-They are both the same essentially, except that your hand and the pen act as the planchette that slides across the board.
Now then...
Experience #1:
I was sitting with my mother, my grandmother, my Aunt, and a couple of my cousins. An all female group. My cousins were the same age as me at the time, around 8 or 9.
The other girls and I listened intently as Grandmother and Auntie spoke of it with reverence. The planchette was very old, as was the board. They were both hand-made from wood, an Ash tree, I remember. It was polished smooth, and had the letters, numbers, yes, no, etc...but also had some personal sigils(runes) on it, as well as astrological signs on it:Mars, Venus, the Sun, the Moon (The Luminaries:San/Moon were carved at the top corners, and the other symbols were placed opposite eath other on either side: Venus and Mars.
As we listened, we were told what the symbols were meant for: if it landed on the Mars symbol, it represented a man, Venus, a woman.
This was used to identify someone, or the gender of the spirit itself.
I remember 9 out of 10 times, it would always slide to one of the gender symbols first, most of the time, Venus.
We were taught how to use it, what it meant, etc...
One day, I grew skeptical, and rather boldly challenged my grandmother, {which one did NOT do often}, and told her how she could PROVE to me that someone else wasn't pulling it along the board?
I remember her piercing icy blue eyes glaring at me, with a knowing grin on her face, as though she had just read my soul, and sat back, put her arms in the air, in a dismissive gesture, and said, "the girl wishes to be shown the Truth of the Power of the spirit. Very well, child."
She then instructed me to put MY fingers on the planchette-ALONE.
Then, she had the others surround me in a circle, all holding hands.
I thought, "this will prove it for sure, then..." I thought to myself, sardonically.
Just then...the planchette moved, and slid across the board. ON IT'S OWN. The feeling was one I could not describe. It was like the planchette had a life of it's own, and was moving itself. It was all I could do to keep my fingers on it. My eyes were nearly bulging out of their sockets, but as I looked up to my grandmother, she simply watched, intently, and without casting her eyes away from the planchette, said firmly, "concentrate, girl!"
Immediately, I looked down, and thought, "who is here?"
It spelled out my name, and then the #6.
That was all. But after that, it made me a believer. The same for AW...
Ironically, the number 6 holds a special meaning in my life. In the Tarot, my Soul Card is the Lovers, #6. As well as My Life Card, and so on. During some Numerology sessions, again, the #6 was broken down.
I had 6's all around me! LOL...
This happened more than a decade later. I find it no coincidence.
I feel that as my family, as well as my former coven during the 80's, were all divination experts, this has much to do with it. My mother often tells me to this day, that I've always been the most psychic of all the family, and the most involved in the occult as well.
Out of 3 other sisters, and one brother, (I'm the "baby") the second youngest, who practically raised me herself, passed away last year, as I've posted here on the Forum numerous times.
Sadly, she was also strongly gifted, but like our older sister, though not as strong, was still within her, and both were deathly afraid of it, for the results it caused. According to my mother, my second older sister, when she was young, had a typical tantrum one day, and all of a sudden lashed out, and threw open her hand, screaming. A vase on the table, not an expensive one, thank the gods, shattered.
After that, my sister was terrified to ever use her gifts ever again.
My first older sister, who had passed on, also had psychokinetic abilities, though uncontrolled, and would happen at random, only when she was REALLY upset. Just minor things would happen...plates would fly out of the cupboard, etc...
Just the other day, I was speaking to Mother, (I'm planning a trip this Spring to visit her back in Phoenix...Scottsdale actually), and she joked, that Chrissie had paid her another visit. Lights would turn back on that she had shut off in her room, things would be rearranged on her dresser...she knew that Christine was just playing a practical joke on her...and she still talks to her. "Now you stop that, young lady!" she would shout, chuckling...
Funny, as I proofread this now, I realize how far fetched it sounds, and for me to write about it so nonchalantly...but, you just had to grow up in my family, is all. ;)

Oh my, in all my babbling, I didn't even mention the dangers.
YES, it can be VERY dangerous, if you are not an Adept. Many time it's harmless, but like any type of magical work that deals with the Other Side, it has it's risks. It is certainly NO game, that I can assure you, my dear.
I would say a type of prayer to the goddess, or whatever guide you feel protects you, and imagine a white Light surrounding you before you use it. EACH AND EVERY TIME!
Also, since this is the first time, and it is a USED board, I would purify and cleanse it. You can wipe it sown quickly and then dry thrououghly, charged and consecrated sea salt and water, with a quartz crystal added to it, then smudge it with a smudge stick, or burn some White Sage, or make a prufiying incence of Frankincense and Sandalwood Chips, or just Sandalwood alone would actually be appropriate, as is Myrrh, for Sandalwood is purifying, and has a light, divinitory Air vibration, Myrrh is burned to communicate with the dead, I burn Myrrh alone when I use a Board, or AW...Or all of them, or a combo thereof...all of them have a strong pungent, but pleasent smell, at least I think so. Sandalwood is very light, and has a nice light woodsy scent to it.
Funny, it is to to me, when some people burn Frankincense and Myrrh, they say it smells like a Catholic Church. I've always LOVED the smell, it smells like magic, and witchcraft to me, for it was burned and used as such, LONG before organized religions took hold on the land.
Oh, you will need some self lighting charcoal discs, as well. Many times the brand is called, "Three Kings", and is wrapped in aluminum. About 5-6 discs I think are in there, in inch in diameter, a half inch in depth, with a recessed center. Light the edge, carefully holding the opposite edge, and hold it into the flame until you see and hear it sputter and sparkle. That's the salt petre in it. Potassium Nitrate.
When it starts actively sputtering, immediatly put it into the brazier dish, censer, incense burner, etc. It can be made of brass, or otw, make sure to place a small mound of sand underneath, for the charcoal to rest upon.
Pass the now cleansed planchette through the smoke, purifying it, and charging it, inusing it with energy. YOUR energy. Do the same with the board. It is symbolic, it needn't be completly immersed in the smoke, enough passes to do the trick.
Questions? PM me, and be happy to help.

Yes they can work.. but it's like setting off a flare and you don't know who is going to answer it.. or like someone knocking at your door and you open it without first looking thru the peephole.. I've used them and I believe they do work.. but usually you get incorrect information, or something that isn't really in your best interest to be talking to..

If I may respectfully disagree here, HHM does make a valuable and widely respected point.
However, the information you get depends on the channel of the "radio frequency" you have allowed yourself to tune into.
This is why I stated that such use of things should be used by an Adept, just like casting a protective Circle...it is used in the Craft both to PROTECT the coven members, or paritcipants in such ritual from forces that I HAVE had to deal with on occasion, and believe me, they are VERY real, and at times, VERY nasty. They often are the accumulation of energy, formed into whatever shape that you as an individual are most afraid of, and essentially are the residual effects of either thoughts, emotions, spirits, etc...all that have negative attributes attached to them-hate, jeolousy, etc...
Therefore, you should prepare yourself appropriatly in order to to be able to open the door without the need for a peephole, if you understand the analogy of that...;)
I have often at times used both AW, and Ouija Boards with success, and sometimes astonishing results, that have resulted in contact with a deceased friend or relative, or a guide that has correctly predicted a future event.
Now, whether these are seperate entities, or a part of your "subconcious" mind working, or both, is up for debate, as it has been for decades.

Since you brought up the pronunciation I want to ask something: isn't the 'j' in 'ja' commonly pronounced like the English 'y'? Making the pronunciation 'wee-yah'? I've never seen/heard it pronounced like that, but 'wee-jee' has never made sense to me, especially after I read somewhere that Ouija was formed from the French and German words for 'yes', and that German word is pronounced 'yah'. (But that 'yes-yes' theory may be completely bogus.)

You make a good point here, Darbla. It's just that over the 30 someodd years I've used it, I've heard it prounounced those ways.
Technically, Ouija DOES come from French origin, meaning more or less: "Yes, this is true", or a confirmation, that in fact, the messages that you will get from this board will be correct and accurate.

I apparently take a dramatically different view of talking boards than a great number of people here. Which I feel is perfectly OK, you just listen to the opinion that makes the most sense to you. Here is mine:
A talking board is a tool. It is a divination tool, just like pendulums, or runes, or scrying mirrors, or Tarot decks. There isn't anything intrinsically more dangerous about a talking board than there is about any other divination tool. Yes, I have heard stories about people being possessed, my own mother won't allow talking boards in her house because she had a bad experience, but there are factors in play here that go beyond intrinsic danger. The main factor is that people listen to all these stories, and when they use a talking board themselves all those stories sort of "manifest" themselves. I've used talking boards before, on several occasions. I have never had a "bad" experience, but I have seen people who were creeped out to begin with start having things "happen" to them. The reason isn't because they are really in danger, but because they were sucked into the whole mythology of getting possessed by a talking board, so when they realized that the planchette really does move (whether by supernatural force or by everybody's collective minds), they let those feelings get to them.
This is a problem because a talking board, especially when used with more than one like-minded individual, can be an excellent divination tool. People just let the hype get to them. It's easy with a talking board because talking boards are so much less "interpretive" and more direct.
So, some advice. First, do some sort of ritual to protect yourself and others. I personally think this is a staple in all of my divination and other rituals, in this case it not only protects, but it also can help quell the negative feelings you may get. Somebody a long time ago suggested annointing with sage oil. Maybe you can use that. Owl's suggestion about clearing/cleansing the board is also a very good idea. While I feel that talking boards are useful and people shouldn't be as terrified of them like popular culture seems to demand, it's always a wise idea to take precautions.
Next, be sure of yourself. This is a main point. If you're unsure of yourself you'll be more likely to let any little thing get to you. Not always, but often, the people who have terrible things happen to them are the ones who went into their talking board experiment with feelings that they shouldn't really be doing this or with visions of The Exorcist running through their heads.
And last, make sure you close the board. Again, this has both the obvious purpose of making sure whatever or whoever was talking with you through the board isn't going to be stuck with you, and it has the other purpose of creating peace of mind.

I was at Barnes and Nobles today, checking out anything new they had in stock, and I saw a book about using the Ouija board correctly based on the practices and accounts of Allister Crowley (I think that's how you spell it), and how to protect yourself and others while in use. Personally, I had used it when I was a kid often, and had a few odd experiences, but never anything bad or "possessive" about it. As noted below, it is a tool, and depending on your expectations and energy given to it, predicts the experiences that you have. When I used it, I was young enough that I hadn't heard anything bad or creepy about the board, just that my mother was intrigued by it and always wanted one. So I got one, I think I was like 9 or so years old, and had some fun doing regular divination with it. Eventually it got ruined from a fire I had in my bedroom years later, and I haven't gotten a new one since. I personally prefer Tarot cards or stone casting myself.

What makes ouija boards more dangerous than using a pendulum, tarot cards, etc.? I've heard so many things about them. My mother won't allow one in her house, either.
Is it because it's the only divining tool that's sold in the toy section and it's used by a lot of kids? Or is there something else about it that attracts the lower spirits?

I haven't used one in many years, but have used them extensively. My mother taught me when I was about 13 or 14. For several years I used it with my mom, my sister, friends, and alone. There were certain people that it would never work for, and others where it just went to town. My sister and I got to the point where we would place two glasses on the kitchen counter, explain which was yes and no; and used a checker to ask questions. But I will say that you must prepare yourself and your space, not only for use of these boards, but for anything of this sort.

I have a board and have used it a few times - honestly, I've not had anything from it, but I don't want to use it alone (maybe I'd subconsciously move planchette or maybe level 666 demon spawn bite my head off) so its not been given the proper chance yet.
When speaking to spirits there are better ways.

I'd like ot comment on the radio being unplugged... I had something similar happen to me years ago in my teens when I was just learning certain aspects of this sort of thing and finding out the limits and where I could or could not stretch them. My friend and I got ahold of a oui ja board and since no one would be home at her house most of the night (her folks at a party at my house) we stayed at her home. Lit candles, turned out the lights... the works. I did know to cast a circle of sorts... and did the best I could having never actually cast one before.
Everything went pretty well. Talked to a man who'd settled the area over 100 years ago... some other spirits with nothing really to say but hello...
then came one who called himself New Zeland. (We never found out why.) no matter what we asked the answer was New Zeland... and eventually the planchette rocked back and forth "N" "Z", "N" "Z"... over and over... I commanded, as I'd been taught, That the nonsense stop right now!...
The planchette shot from out fingertips, rickocheted off a china cabinet, and skidded to a stop in the middle of the living room floor.... a room and half a hallway away from the dining room where the board was.
We packed up the board and planchette and put it in the closet shelf.
Later, we were sitting in the living room talking about the usual teenage-girl stuff when the TV popped on. This was in the late 70s/very early 80s and the old huge floor model TV had this weird short in it that it would turn on or turn the volume up or down without you doing a thing. so when it turned on we didn't think anything of it. There was a horror show on... two girls and a ouija board... we watched until it was just plain too scarey for us and turned it off. It popped back on. twice this happened... then the noises in the basement started.... banging... scraping....growling...
the TV came on a third time and redheaded temper of mine burst and I went to yank the cord from the socket...
if there was ever a time I'd wished I was a fainter was then.
The cord was unplugged and resting on top of the TV.
I didn't used another board until about 6 years ago. This time I know to close the doors I open. and HOW to do it.
it's not a game. It can be a great tool. I use it now only as a way to communicate with specific spirits.

I have never used one personally but I had a friend who used one and twice something had happened while I was there. The first time it was just us girls and the woman who was doing had been doing it since she was a teenager at least 24 yrs of experience with it. Well they knew this guy I had a crush on and decided to ask the spirit innocent playful questions you know like boxers or briefs. Was he in love etc. Well one of the woman's teenage sons friends came over and he automatically started to say the guy was gay and just plain nasty things.
He was warned to stop and he continued anyway. Well this was in the kitchen and all the dishes were done expect for a glass that was upside on the counter that was at least eight feet away (footsteps length). The glass came flying and hit the wall just past his head he wasn't injured but he did have shreds of glass in his hair since it had been so close.
No one could've done this we knew we were the only ones in the house and even if someone arrived you couldn't miss it because it was a townhouse condo style once you opened the front door you had to go up like 18 stairs to get to the living area.
At another time with questions about the same guy *I didn't ask the questions but I didn't stop them I was llattered that they had an interest in him.* When my friend used the ougia board we did it in the kitchen everytime and it was just a home made one with candles the living room had lights on so it wasn't spooky or anything but we always had at least six candles going *I love candles*. Anyway I forget what the exact question that was asked but then we noticed one of the candles flames kept rising and then going back down almost like a breeze but instead of going sideways it went up. we thought that was neat but nothing out of the ordinary we didn't feel a breeze and the window was close but you know there could've been an upward draft or something.
It did this a few times and then the wick completely split (the burning part) and because the flame had stopped moving so much we noticed the split and it started to entwine itself before it went out completely. We turned the lights on to check it out and you could see the part where it was twisted and looked braided before it became one and disappeared into the wax.
Not as spooky as some experiences here I know but when you really don't expect anything like that it kind of stays in your memory.

I played around with them in the past. Now I'm completely scared of them. I had one that I hid in one of my rooms in the house and now I refuse to even look at it.

I'm skeptical as far as ouija boards go. I've never had anything occur while using one other than an eerie feeling. :)
